Ashamed that I didn't give this a chance in 1989...heard it and moved on for some idiotic reason..... ..not until 2008 did I appreciate this as just amazing. Lesson learned that you can always go back and revere greatness.

Met these guys in Columbus Ohio on the Voodoo highway tour. I was a kid and somehow won a fan club deal and got to go to sound check. I think the guys were disappointed lol we were a bunch of kids. But man I’ll never forget how cool Greg was with us. One helluva cool guy. Made a kid feel cool. Jake on the other hand lmao. Anyway this cat deserves all the notoriety he can get . Not only cool as a breeze but one helluva bass player.

Badlands is such an underappreciated band. Three really good albums. Ray was a fantastic singer and Jake was on fire.

Ray Gillian was a great a singer as Jake is a guitarist. Let that sink in. I think Ray sounds like the love-child of Steve Perry and Sammy Hagar. Just amazing range and power.

Saw them live for this tour. I was front stage, right in front of Jake. He was using 2 Marshall full stacks. I couldn't hear for a week. It was worth it!! 💚🎸

What a great band. Saw them Aug. 29th 1991 at the Vic Theatre in Chicago. The entire crowd sang every lyric!! Jake and Ray were visibly blown away by it and were in awe of the crowd. An unbelievable night. Ray was a rock god in all his glory! The hardest working lungs and diaphragm in the industry.

It's always a bummer to hear about records that are squashed just because the label wants too. I suppose there's more to it, of course, but still, what a crap deal for the band and the fans! It's really heartening to hear Greg is happy now, regardless of the crap he's had to put up with. 🍻

I saw Badlands live back in the day and had their debut album on cassette. They played some great, bluesy rock music that really stands the test of time. It’s too bad that the music got memory holed and is only available on bootleg recordings.

I'm surprised you guys don't know the deal about Ray and the pulled albums. I think it's shitty. What they SHOULD have done, is just award Ray's shares of the proceeds to the families of the women. I could understand if it was just Ray, but there are 3 other guys on those records whose lives were heavily affected financially by the pulling of those albums.(Ok, maybe not Eric). It was a huge punishment for innocent parties. Imagine if your boss got busted for something and the lawyers argued that all the employees pensions were now frozen? That's just fucked up. After what Jake went through being fucked out of his writing and publishing from the Ozzy stuff, to lose everything from HIS OWN band as well, because some shitty lawyers made a deal with a shitty record company. Infuriating.

saw the great white / tesla / badlands tour in nc, tesla sounded great, great white sounded great and I love badlands but it was way too loud. it was so loud it was disappointing. you missed a lot, it was like noise coming at you. you could not really understand the vocals and missed the guitar even in places. those 3 badland records are still better than 99 percent of the crap being released today and I still listen to them!

Years later after finding out how Sharon screwed Jake over Bark's song writing credits you can tell how it really soured him on The Ultimate Sin record. I mean, Sin had it's moments but song wise you can tell Jake just kind of phoned it in. When Badlands came out you could tell immediately that being in Ozzy's band was holding him back.
@allsystemsgo86784 жыл бұрын
I'd agree with some of what you said. I don't think Jake phoned it in on Ultimate sin. I always thought it was much better than Bark at the moon.
@FunkyMonk4Life3 жыл бұрын
Jake demanded songwriting credit up front on Sin because of the raw deal on Bark. So, I dont think he was phoning it in. It was a really good record. Personally, I liked it better but I would agree that's a matter of preference.

Jake didn't phone it in on the Ultimate Sin album but he did during the final leg of the tour. There was a show where he literally just stood there and didn't move one bit which is saying a lot considering how he was the flashiest of Ozzy's guitarists. Total contrast from the Bark at the Moon tour where he was zipping around all over.
@ferox9653 жыл бұрын
I met Jake as Red Dragon Cartel was just starting touring. I asked him about Ozzy...and he politely asked me not to ask about Ozzy, that he did want to ruin the mood from the show. Fine by me. He sounded fantastic.

Plenty of rockstars say Eric Singer is an 'asshole'. Lita Ford said he's a 'low life motherfucker' & 'barley considers him a human being'. I don't know how he used to be but now it's understandable. He spends his time being Peter Criss...the REAL CATMAN!! Eric who..?

Atlantic Records seems petty for not letting the debut album be reprinted. It was popular in 1989, 2 popular videos, I knew it was near gold in sales or over 500,000. Lame on Atlantic's part. Would've been good to see them get that gold album. Voodoo Highway I didn't know sold that much. I used to read Billboard magazine back in the day and saw that it peaked at #140 and dropped off quick. So 400,000 and the first sold 480,000. Close to a million and the record company dropped the band and refuses to reprint?? Because Ray, his HIV and spreading? Lawsuits but how would Atlantic be responsible for any of Ray's actions? AIDS was taboo in those days....I guess....

Timing is everything?? Might have done well today!! Blues? Country rock ?? Hmm !! Music was changing or I'll say hairbands ??? Hate saying that!! But the cookie cut ? Image? Killing rock ?? That's what hurt bands !! That what pushed guns and roses!! Plus great songs !! Stuck to the music!! Atleast in the early years !! THE 80'S rock was a great time for rock and the creativity was unmatched to this day!!!!
