Shot in Bakersfield opening for Cinderella. This one is classic..Jake loses power a couple minutes in...When he comes back on stage, he and Ray(R.I.P.) argue(jokingly)about where to restart. Ray wants to start over, Jake doesn't, says they don't have time. They're not on the same page because you see Jake rolling his eyes when he expects to go into solo, Ray keeps singing. Jake walks off and hides behind his amp in embarassment. They all laughed about it when we watched it on the bus after.

This band is such an inspiration for me...my perspective on music wouldn't be the same without them. The way I play guitar would not be the same without Jake...and what a voice.

So true.....Badlands was a a decade late. They would have been HUGE in the 70s!!!!Probably bigger than Zepp. What a talented band.

These guys were just special. Thank you so much to all the guys that it’s the rare Badlands footage being uploaded. I am a HUGE fan, and turn people on to the band whenever I can. It’s hard to find their debut or Voodo Highway on CD. I don’t think they’re even on iTunes. Ray and Jake were just that rare musical marriage that, while it lasted, made incredible stuff. Ray Gillen has one of my all-time favorite voices, and Jake’s one of my biggest influences as a guitarist. Jake E. Lee should be every bit as famous as Eddie was. Sharon and Ozzy shit all over him, and when he had a good thing with Badlands, the label just gave up on them. Then Ray died. I’m so damned thankful for the music they recorded together. I listen all the time, and remember that great time. RIP Ray.

Of all the bands and celebs I ever met, Jake was the nicest and coolest person of anyone. I first met him when I was very young and I have never forgotten how overly humble and gracious he was. He's the anti-rockstar... the anti-ego, the absolute kindest person. I met Jake when he was with Ozzy, so I never met Ray. :( But I did see Badlands at the Troubadour once, so it remains a golden memory as well. :)

Too bad this excellent band never got the attention they deserved. Badlands probably were one of the best bands from the late 80's. R.I.P. Ray. Can't wait for Jake's new album this year! Btw: 5:33 Jake's daughter, Jade.

I met Jake E Lee at the now LONG GONE Cat Club in New York City in 1990...I totally agree, the nicest guy you will ever meet in your life. And Ray was sick as Hell with the flu that night and they still played a great show.

I'm proud to say I was at that gig in Bakersfield with some good friends..Tangier opened up out of blackness, completely dark and they blasted a tune called Ripcord as they hit the lights. Scared the shit out of me. I've been to A LOT of gigs, Danzig, Pantera, Dead Kennedys, you name it and this show was by far the loudest. It was so loud your body is screaming to you "move away from the sound!" I'll never forget it

Im with you, so true. These players tune down so low they have turned the guitar into percussion instrument. They cant fill or solo. Say what you will about the 80's & all the over the top images, but the dudes could play.

I saw that same show in Jacksonville, FL. I can't say for sure that Badlands blew Tesla away, but they were fantastic, and proved at that show that they were deserving of more than just an 'opening act' slot. Great music, powerful songs, and the amazing vocals of Ray Gillen - R.I.P.

GREAT VIDEO!I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO SEE JAKE (BARK AT THE MOON) AT THE OMNI(20,000 FANS) AND BADLANDS AT CENTRE STAGE ALSO IN ATLANTA WITH AROUND 2,000 OF MY CLOSEST FRIENDS WHEN I WAS IN HIGHSCHOOL. JAKE STARTED A SONG(DREAMS IN THE DARK I THINK) AND HIS GUITAR WAS SO OUT OF TUNE THEY STOPPED AND RAY SAID THEY WERE GONNA KICK HIS GUITAR TECH'S ASS AFTER THE SHOW.JOKINGLY!TAKE TWO. HADN'T EVEN HEARD THE ALBUM YET.JAKE BLEW US AWAY WITH HIS RAW TONE AND RAY.WELL RAYS VOICE WENT INTO MY SOUL! 2MUCH

Saw the same dead air happen to Molly Hatchet a couple of years back. Bobby Ingram's amps went dead in the middle of a song, the difference being that he had a melt down on stage and Jake didn't let it bother him.

Ironically I was sitting on stage right at Tom Keifer's piano when this happened. I heard it was a battery that came out of his wireless transmitter. Seems like the video edited out Jake kicking his stack and then laughing it off.

I knew Ray briefly toward the end. He considered me his friend and was truly a great guy. I walked in on him in the green room after he ran off of the stage during a show one night. He didn't see me watching him. He was ripping the place apart obviously really upset. I assumed it was because he couldn't hit the highs. He died not quite a year later and now I wonder what his rage that evening was really about. RIP Ray..

I missed them in Dallas. I also missed Savatage in Dallas. Both times I had tickets, but had to pass because I was sick. Badlands didn’t tour much for Voodoo Highway, from memory. I never got to see them, and then Ray died. And Savatage? Two months after the show I missed, guitarist Criss Oliva was killed by a drunk driver. I’ve always regretted missing both those shows. I’m right there with ya, David.

BTW, I’ve seen a lot of shows, in person and on video. I’ve never seen a complete failure like that. Jake was about to unleash some righteous fury, and his cabinet just gave out. Some roadie, or the sound engineer, got their ass chewed after, no doubt. But the band were pros about it.

the rumor was (because of his voice) that he was Ian Gillan's brother. Not true. Just another guy with comparable talent. He was really good, and made a big impact in those days. He is sadly missed.

Funny story - when I first met the band I was so drunk I pulled on Ray's hair to get his attention (i'm 5'9" he's like 6'4") and he just touched my chest and said "dont pull the hair" then we chatted and he was totally cool! He had a line of women around him - yeah - he was definitely into chicks! Great singer and person!
