I'm talking actual Kevlar Helmets, carrier plates that stop 7.62×39 FMJ etc) . Most things are cheap copies of military gear but you can make do with them. So, not useless, but not that great either. With the gear and weapons, but especially the experience these guys have, I'd just barely qualify them as Special Forces. It's not "the best of the best" or even "some of the best" , but they are better than the average rank and file soldier of Regional Powers such as Iran, India, maybe even Russia.

And these fanatics do not lack the latter because they think that they are fighting for their faith. One more thing is that one may buy the equipment or loot it, but where does one get the training for being called an "elite" Taliban? In my opinion, and its just an opinion, it is the Pakistani regulars (probably SSGs) dressed as Taliban who form this so-called unit. The Pakistani generals have a history of sending in their men as guns for hire. And here they would have been even more motivated due to the jihad angle.
