Razer has made some significant shape changes to the classic Deathadder for the first time in 16 years with the Deathadder v3 Pro. Does the new shape make the cut? Is it still even a Deathadder?

its weird. I dont remember logi getting as much flak for the superlight. I know they did and some people hated the price but I dont remember this level of discussion around this transition to lightweight stuff. Its almost like logi benefited from holding back on features for their mice. Both companies made sacrifices to arrive at a low weight and high price. but razer seems hurt more by it because they had more features to strip away.
@shaekisbat5043
@shaekisbat5043 Жыл бұрын
and remember logi used the same sensor, the exact same shell and the same shitty omron switches on the superlight and still charged a huge markup. At least razer is pushing the technology on their mice as overkill and unnecessary as they may be.

It's more like, logitech did it almost 2 years ago, when the market wasn't as competitive. Why get a deathadder v3 pro when the pulsar xlite v2 exists. There is too much competition nowadays to sell such a normal spec mouse at 150.
@ayyayyron
@ayyayyron Жыл бұрын
Logitech didn't get flak because the superlight launched in a market with almost no saturation. The only real competition at the time was finalmouse, who also had ridiculous prices. The $60-$80 lightweight mice started becoming well known after the superlight released. Razer is releasing this mouse into a market that now has heavy competition at far lower price points, and doesn't really offer anything new over their competition.
@badseedtech
@badseedtech Жыл бұрын
Yeah that's a great point. I remember have a *small* vocal minority that weren't thrilled with the Superlight, but mostly people were excited to get a big-brand performance mouse that didn't have holes. The lightweight wireless game was mostly served by like G-Wolves and others if memory serves. Maaaybe Glorious, can't remember when MoW dopped. Felt like a bunch of low quality, generic mice with holes at that time. But yeah, to your other point, the 1/2 combo of the Viper Ult and the DAv2 on the dock was it for me - I didn't mind the heavier weight on the DAv2 bc I knew what it was and what I was gonna use it for.

I’m glad to see a good refresh on the deathadder design. It was my first mouse. The price is pretty hard to swallow though, and the lack of a top DPI button. I do love Razer’s optical switches, but I think for the price I’d rather go for the glorious or Pwnage ergo options

INNACCURATE INFO AT 1:10 - the measurement labels on the EC2 are incorrect, the listed values are for the EC1. DAv3 *is* still a longer, taller EC2. It is a hair wider though - not narrower. Sorry for the botched graphic.

I agree with you about the getting less mouse for more money, most people are not serious competitive gamers. Its hard to fork over $150 for a lightweight ergo when you have mice like the Xlite and Model D wireless (Now pro version too) out there. I think this was a good move on Razer's part, the Deathadder is a comfortable shape, but previous to this model they have always been crazy heavy. I have the Viper V2 Pro, but tempted to get this mouse simply because I haven't used a Deathadder for a good 10 years and it would be kind of nostalgic.

While the side flares are iconic, i like that razer finally make the sides, especially the fronts, straighter now. My grip is relaxed claw and i like to stretch my ring finger all the way to the front of the mouse so those flares really got in the way back when i used a DA 2013.

Nice to see the small changes in shape. The original deathadder shape would cause pain on the inside of my ring finger because of that hard corner at the front. Big hands were not great for that mouse. Ended up moving to g500s back in the day because of this.

Never been a Deathadder fan, in fact I couldn't stand the shape previously. This new mouse however looks like one I definitely want to try though I guess that won't be anytime soon thanks to that price (to be fair that goes for all wireless mice). A change from shell-buttons to separated buttons is ALWAYS the right move. Don't mind the deletion of RGB but I do mind not having any sort of battery indicator light on the mouse.

The dimensions on 1:14 for the Zowie mouse are for the EC1 not for the EC2. I am pretty sure its labelled incorrectly if you go by the official measurements by zowie on their site. My favorite part of the death adder is the flared clicks as no matter where my fingers are it’s always able to click. That’s the issue I have with any other mouse the edge of my middle finger always hits the edge of the mouse and messes with my right click. Huge shame they changed that. Also no dpi buttons in the middle. I really see this as a downgrade.

This is a MAJOR downgrade from the V2 Pro. The significant redesign, that whole list of features removed, the removal of the side rubberized grips (forcing you to use the much uglier grip tape if you want it). I'm so glad I recently picked up the V2 Pro for cheap.

@@JDAWG2111 Well, lucky for you as i highly doubt they're going to discontinue the old DA any time soon. The price may even drop more. I got mine for 80€ months ago. It seems to be "on sale" for the past 6-7 months in my country every other week. It's not my shape and i haven't used it for over a week in total but it's very good mouse indeed. As for downgrade, it's targetted towards different audience but, i don't like the "less features, less plastic, higher price" marketing tactic that has been floating around for the past year. Not just with Razer, but everyone else that falls into that category.

The DaV3 is probably slightly better in terms of sensor placement, cable and weight, but the Prime is 100% perfect when it comes to build quality, shape and buttons. The latter of which the DaV3 seems to not be, as it’s reported it has some side wobble and notable post travel. I can’t stand side wobble, especially if there’s signs of the post travel being scratchy as it has been on my previous 3 lightweight ergo mice 😅 Luckily I found a mouse with somewhat unique buttons/switches with absolutely zero signs of that

I recently got the wired version, and it feels like the wire is not even there. At that point, I don’t see the advantage of wireless for the price, especially considering the disadvantages.

They NEED to release the Basilisk V3 Pro already! It's been over two years now! Having a mouse with three thumb buttons changes the game entirely. Once you experience it, you'll never want to go back

Yeah I liked my old G502. But i wouldn’t take it over mice companies are making now. Lighter mice are so much more nimble. But it was a hard change

I got the DAV3 wired and i really loved it but the cable was just a bit too stiff, i think if they made the wire on it super flexible like previous wired razer mouses i've owned, i gladly would've given up the 8000hz polling rate for a better cable. So i'm really glad I tried the DAV3 pro. Getting rid of that wire got rid of my only complaint. It's really expensive but it's a good mouse.

Getting rid of the Bluetooth is such a miss for them. That was one of the main reason I love my DAV2. Hoping they bring it back one day :(

As someone who is waiting for a replacement for a g703 that's lighter, this probably isn't it. It feels too long, I've tried the DA v2 and it felt just okay, nothing special. The back-mid hump of the g703 is just something else. For now, the NP01 fits me the best, better than the Outset AX.

I would have launched this as a different product. It seems like a nice mouse, but the death adder shape being almost identical generation to generation was what I felt the main selling point of the name was.

i'm so afraid of buying this mouse and having to return it because the shape is so different. The first time I put my hands on a DA (had a chroma) was like "perfect shape". And I eventually got other mice and none gave me that feeling again. I was wishing for a wireless DA for so long. I think i'm going to get the V2 Pro instead, it's probably safer

the larger shape is really good. it's really comfortable for me with large hands. if they make it smaller, then I won't buy it because I already have mice that fit my hand and allow me to palm grip it. the classic deathadder is the only normal-style mouse that isn't too small for me, and this seems like it would be too small.

shame about the flex side flex and looseness on the sides after a few weeks - heat treating it can apparently fix it lol.

This is a good mouse, but slightly hard to justify for me personally. I purchased a Deathadder v2x for $45, and I like it a lot for what it is. The matte black finish and no RGB is a design aesthetic I can relate to. I also own a Steelseries Prime Wireless, which gives me a lot of the EC shape, but without the DA front flare. So while I am curious about this mouse, I basically can't justify the price tag. Perhaps wired though. Would be interesting if that came with 8k polling.

Totally agree that its less mouse for more money, as other people have said I bought the v2 for most of the features they have now removed and found it very comfortable they didn't need to change anything other than USB C and the rubberised sides as they wear out very quickly. Unfortunately they took away the 2 main features that I bought the v2 for; Dock compatibility and Bluetooth mode. Sadly I wont be buying the v3.

The price is steep however this is where they have me in a bit of a bind. I also have large hands. I've tried a lot of other mice and this mouse alongside the model O and the model S are the only mice that feels comfortable to me. The fact that it uses usb c a plus to me because I travel with my mouse to work or use it at home for work. It will be nice to forget about the cable because all my devices use USB c or lightning. This is highly contingent on the port being able to accept non proprietary cables. The big Downer is that the docking port for the USB receiver is gone I wish they adapted what roccat did with their kone pro air mice where the receiver can be seated inside the mouse for travel purposes. I'm not going to miss the lighting from my dav2. If this is that much of a letdown then I'll return it.
Razer's new keyboard is basically cheating.
