I love the lack of RGB. This panel, plopped on a VESA mount, looks like a normal monitor! No crazy gaming vibes. And always always always matte for me. I've owned glossy screens, and I can't stand the reflections. I even got a matte screen protector for my phone. I can actually see it outside now!

It's annoying in games where the menus are bright. As it's not that fast, you can see for half a second an extremely bright image until ABL kicks in.

I think that with HDMI 2.1 you can downscale 4k signal from consoles for example and have a clearer image. Rtings mentioned that in a review iirc

I personally dont find that to be the case. There’s easy pixel density math when going from 4k to 1080p, but its weird w 1440p. In testing, I don’t see any noticeable fidelity difference between 4k downscale and native 1440p. As most of the console games that can hit 120 do so at a reduced resolution (not UHD) anyway, its really not enough of a feature to make a difference.

PS5/XSX internal output is always 4k, if you select 720p output for example it's still 4k just downscaled by the console to 720p. Same with 1440p. The only thing you're changing is which part of the pipeline does the downscaling.

With regular use, The LG is not too dim. 210 and 250 is not too big of a difference. The bigger difference is the AW3423DWF vs the LG 27" panels.

Great review! Really love the connectivity and its design of it but the lack of brightness kills it for me. I get it that you get a way better warranty but if the monitor is not performing as great as others it feels that's it not worth it. Also the HDR not being as great it's another deal breaker. I am so disappointed that the ASUS PG27AQDM does not have an HDMI 2.1. port. From all the videos I saw I believe that the QDOLED seems better than WOLED. I guess I will wait for QD OLED 2, or the monitor refreshes of the models launched last year that should be available in the next couple of months. The reason why the Asus panel does not have HDMI 2.1 ports is a result of it using a dedicated GSYNC module. Nvidia is working on a new module that supports HDMI 2.1, but it’s not ready yet. Both the LG and Corsair panels only support “GSYNC compatible”, thus can have HDMI 2.1 ports.

Love the warranty and 0 dead pixels policy as well as the design without logo on the frame and no rgb. I don't really care about the low brightness as i can just make my room dark if necessary. But the most important thing for me is the hdr performance which is obviously way worse than the asus, so i'll have to pass unfortunately. Now i'm just waiting for the acer to see if it's better than the asus. Unfortunately it will also only have 2 years of warranty with 3 bright and 5 dark dead pixels

LG 27GR95QE had the same brightness behavior you mentioned at 7:08, after you adjusted the 27GR95QE contrast to maximum , I think this should be OLED panel limitation.

I placed an order for this monitor last night, but I canceled it after watching this video. Thank you so much for pointing out the incredibly low brightness. 150 nits is truly unacceptable for any use case. I don't understand why manufacturers deceive us so greatly when it comes to the brightness of these OLED monitors. Both Corsair and LG claim a brightness of around 400 nits in their specifications, but it seems that achieving this brightness level requires going into this extremely poor color accuracy mode, aka. suffer mode. To save my eyes, I've decided to stick with my current 27in 4k 144hz IPS monitor. I'm not dropping $1,000 for this junk.

1:50 I just got an HP OMEN 27qs (1440p, 240Hz, HDMI 2.0) and PS5 will not do VRR on HDMI 2.0. It does do 1440p, 120Hz. Video settings in the PS5 say it's not VRR compatible. Maybe I'm missing something in the settings?

i've fixed brightness issues on my LG by turning on HDR in windows and then turning the SDR content brightness up to 100, makes a huge difference when doing stuff outside of games on the desktop and in web browsers

@@badseedtech The M103 firmware has not fixed the HDR problem for myself, and at least one other person ive talked to. The HDR is simply broken, not only is the picture a mess (blotchy, saturated and blue) but all the HDR presets are the same, no differences between the 3. The worry is that Asus tossed out this firmware patch, which to my eyes does nothing, and will now not bother to fix it any further. I have done the calibration, it has not helped. I have a lg c2 right next to me for comparison too. I returned my LG for the ASUS and am amazed at how bad HDR is, I want the LG back but at this point I think id rather just wait until we get a glossy version or the next gen of panels.

@BadSeed Tech There's been reports on different forums (reddit being an example) of the screen freaking out (looks like a bunch of static and is the most common problem, supposedly a firmware issue), HDR being washed out (should be correctable with further firmware improvements) and the screen going black repeatedly. It seems like a promising monitor if ASUS can fix it. But the PG42UQ suffered from issues that were never properly fixed either. I didn't want to link anything here as I didn't know if it's allowed but a quick Google search will pull some results. The channel is awesome btw.

All of these options seem less than ideal. Tbf the best OLED experience still seems to be the 34 inch Alienware DWF from december but im not ready to take the jump to ultrawide as 27 is perfect for me. My current monitor (LG 27GN850-B) is broken and heard that the new LG (poor brightness) and ASUS ones had their own problems (particularly no 2.1 and contrast issues on Asus) so was patiently waiting to see the corsair that seemed like the best of both worlds with good brightness/HDR and 2.1 ports for consoles. Unfortunately it seems to have issues from both of the other offerings, mainly bad brightness and subsequently bad contrast. Incredibly frustrating and I have no idea what to pick (and there's no where in-person for me to see the differences). Best bet is either hope the corsair gets improved through software updates or bite the bullet with subpar ASUS. 🙃

Regardless on the slight chance you are reading my rant, I highly recommend you do a three-way showdown type video with the ASUS, LG, and Corsair WOLED panel monitors (maybe throw-in the Alienware QD-OLED as a comparison to). Either way, your videos are really informative and my favourite I've seen from my monitor searching in the past month or so.

I actually hate the aesthetic of the ASUS so much I'm going with the Corsair model. I just love the Design of it (especially the lack of depth on the stand) and, even if it's a bit dimmer, that shouldn't be a big deal for me as I game in a low-light environment. I currently run my monitor at about 140 nits right now anyway. I'm confident that even with it's weaknesses, it will be a MASSIVE improvement over my 1080p@120hz LCD from 6 years ago and I won't hate looking at it when it's off. Update: So, I got my monitor and I love it. My viewing conditions are a normally lit room, with windows that have shades. I've tried it out with Dying Light 2, Dead Island 2, Control, Diablo IV, and World War Z (with a bleeding edge rig, including an Asus 4090). Extremely dark scenes can be a little dark to see, it's true. A fair amount of playing with gamma and brightness was necessary to dial that in to acceptable levels. HDR sometimes makes this worse (but not always). However, unless your room is brightly lit, I wouldn't stress. Most importantly, image quality is wonderful, with colors and contrast providing a truly vibrant image. I have it set up next to a 1080p LCD and I can't stress enough how night and day the difference is side-by-side. Text *is* readable, but it is not as crisp as my 1080p LCD. To avoid burn-in, I would recommend keeping only games and moving pictures (youtube, movies, etc) without watermarks on it. No icons, standard web browsing, or text editing. I would pretty strongly recommend this as a high-end gaming monitor, if you're in the market and have the disposable cash. I would pretty strongly recommend against it as primary school or work monitor.

@@faith9113 based on reviews, input latency takes a hit over the other OLED options at the same size, not exactly something you'd want when spending over $1200 + you're making the decision of 175hz vs 240hz. Some reviewers have mentioned colors not being as accurate in certain applications, which is a running theme with OLED in general. Overall if I was going to spend $1200+ on an OLED 34" monitor I'd aim for LG or Corsair over AW, MSI and Samsung

I have not had one OLED device not show burn in within 3 months. And hundreds returned and refunded for clients. I just dont think its ever going to be worth it unless they get down below 200usd and people are computable replacing them every year.

these OLED monitors that are being released with sub 300 nits brightness is disappointing. Hopefully future models can be brighter, have better subpixel layout, less burn in, glossy, higher refresh rate and cheaper prices

@@badseedtech yeah i bought the lg but the 1-5% gray backgrounds looked awful( darker vertical lines and all), i could also hear the fan, i own a CX oled and i swear the 55" displays text is sharper than this monitor all those gripes for a 1k monitor nah...
