In Bae's defence, living in Australia I've never really known my neighbours. As a kid I knew a few because we went to the same school but I've lived in this house for seven years and I don't know my neighbours. I know SOME communities will intentionally talk to each other but I've lived in a fair few houses and never found one of those. So to me the idea of a neighbour giving me food is weird too, I'd probably never accept it.
