The Grid. A digital frontier. I tried to picture clusters of information as they moved through the computer. What did they look like? Ships? Motorcycles? Were the circuits like freeways? I kept dreaming of a world I thought I'd never see. And then.. one day.. I got in.

Oftentimes due to my lack of hands-on modernity with games in comparison to others references I make are dated. For example, in the initial handful of minutes of Distance given the overtone, racing element, etc. I immediately thought of the beginnings for 3D polygonal graphics at their roughest and saw correlations to PS1's Wipeout franchise. In nearly 30 years time having gone by since the era and days of Wipeout; Distance was smooth around the edges, sharp graphically and visually, and elicited a need for speed. All made for an enjoyable watch.

I didnt get to the end of the video due to life but in case you never noticed it. The 'flying boost' and actual flight controls both have an option for being inverted. That is why one of your controls WAS inverted whilst the other one WASNT and also why when you were changing the option before it actually wasn't changing anything.
