Thank you Jo. This is very helpful. I order my thread from Laura too at Little stitcher sews, she had great service x

Fantastic video. I just got in some Amann Tex 40 thread 1000 meter (1093 yards) for $1.68 USD plus shipping. With the shipping it came out to $2.34 each. For me here that came out to be best price. I also just got in 90/14 microtex needles. Thanks for the reminder to switch to the smaller needle on the cotton linings. I forget that sometimes.

Hi Jo, this is just what I needed, thank you so much! I have just been given a large piece of beautiful Japanese black suede and plan to sew it on my vintage domestics (scary I know) so I am looking for tips on how to combine suede with fabric. For example using the Teloujay 2 pattern, my plan is to make the wrap around side panels in suede, but for the rest I’ll use a contrasting fabric. I’ve been sewing with faux suede for awhile, but have never tried the real thing, so excited to give it a go. Thanks again for keeping us so enthused on our bag making journey 🤗

I got some tex 40 thread from little stitchers sews after you mentioned it on another video, I found a grey/black variegated one and I find I can use this on lots of different colour bags.

Where does Adam get his tex 90 please. I am struggling to find it in the UK
@CountryCowDesigns2 жыл бұрын
He got his from Sailrite when he bought the machine. There are a few online shops we are looking to try but it’s common to find them based in USA. Alternatively try Etsy.

Hello from acrros the pond :) Thank you for sharing this, I'm a beginner of making bag and use domestic machine only, and don't think to go for industrial machine, as bag is not my main, but...kinda like to start :( I own the combo sewing and embroidery. Your tips, really help and appreciate it a lot!

Thanks Jo, really helpful. Can I ask how you dispose of old needles? I have absolutely loads in a pot, but don't want to risk injuring anyone by throwing them in the normal rubbish. Thanks. 😁

We also keep them in a pot and then drop it into our local recycling centre. I agree, way to risky in the bin 😬

Could you do a video on binding?

That’s a great idea. There’s so many different ways of doing it and we could show a few of them. We’ll add it to the list for sure 😁

Hi Jo great video! One question when would you use the cheaper moon thread and when would you use the tex 40? Would you use the moon for smaller bags and purses and the heavier one for bigger bags or do you think it’s safe to use the moon on anything you could see on a domestic? I’m new to bag making 😅
@CountryCowDesigns Жыл бұрын
Good question! I used the Coats Moon threads for a long time on many size bags and it worked great. I’ve never had any problems with it. The Tex 40 is more expensive but it feels stronger and looks nicer, especially for top stitching as it’s thicker so your stitches look more defined. Also, it doesn’t give off as much fuzz so it doesn’t clog up your machine nearly as fast 😉 when using Coats Moon threads, make sure you clean the fluff out of your bobbin very regularly 😃

@@CountryCowDesigns thank you so much for the quick response. I think I’ll try the moon for now and maybe try the tex for extra special bags 🥰

Always love your info videos! I tried the Amann thread right at the start of my bag making (after your earlier recommendation I think) and my little portable mechanical Pfaff loves it top and bottom too. I have others but that machine is brilliant for bags. May I suggest you try Organ needles too? Japanese precision needles increasingly available here, especially online. Schmetz have the lead in their colour coding but I think that's all.

Interestingly I had a lot of trouble with Organ needles when I tried them. They broke none stop. A lot of people rave about them though so I wonder if it’s a problem with my machine not agreeing with them ☺️ Whereas I don’t think I’ve ever broken a Schmetz needle

@@CountryCowDesigns that is very odd indeed. I have used them (Universals & Super Stretch in particular) on my Bernina 1130s & 1530 -- both love them. When I was sewing dancewear their Superstretch was my needle of choice in my sewing machines, overlockers & coverstitch. 4 different machine brands.

Curious... Does John ever use the same Amann in his industrial? My industrial kicks up a fuss with bonded thread.
@CountryCowDesigns2 жыл бұрын
Adam uses bonded thread mostly in his machine.

Hi Jo, what size Microtex needle do you normally use for the thicker materials? Thanks.
@CountryCowDesigns Жыл бұрын
I can usually only get hold of a size 90 so for anything extra thick I end up using a universal or jeans needle size 100 😁
