As a seasoned bag maker who has been out of the game for about 3 years, I loved this video. I really think you did cover everything. I wish you were around when I started. Of course, I started by accident really, then I fell in love with it, my mom and dad fully supported me, even paid full price for custom items, or so they thought anyway. Lol I only charged them materials. After all, they bought me my Janome machine and she was able to go thru 10 layers of denim, then when I worked with heavy leather or vinyl, I had started acquiring some beautiful vintage sewing machines and because they had all metal gears inside of them, they were able to handle anything that would fit under the presser foot. Lol When my dad passed, I made myself a bag to take with me on the plane when I went back for a memorial 2 months later, that was the last bag I made. Then we were house hunting and bought a house and the next summer our basement had a sewer back up, thankfully all of my machines were off the ground, but everything has been in disarray and I get so overwhelmed every time I go down there. So, I have just been slowly putting together my space. We have the shelves now, I have the tables, just waiting on my cutting table to get here. I have my ironing station set up and I need 2 more power strips and the hangers for those and I think I will be set to start going again. I'm trying.

Hi Tiffany. I am sorry for all the trouble with the flooding. But here's the thing: When you love doing something, and life gets in your way, you'll find a way to get back to it. Or so you should, at least. It sounds great that you're well on your way. I am happy for you. Keep prioritizing doing things that make you happy. Even if it is a little hard work to set it up. 😃

I’ve made bags for myself and friends since I was was in high school in the sixties. I used a regular home machine for years but finally got an industrial machine. I also make clothing mostly for myself. One time my hairdresser told me a customer of hers who worked for a furniture manufacturer had a bunch of scraps she wanted to get rid of. We went over and holy moly her two car garage was packed. I had an old 70’s model Buick with a huge trunk that I filled up. I made sooooo many bags.

This just came up I my feed. Very interesting. I made myself a bag from upholstery material that I had. Cotton lining. Love that I can throw it in the washer when necessary. Used my old Riccar machine to sew it. It's a real workhorse and sewed thru many layers, as long as I went slowly. No rivets or zippers. I would like to try my hand at making something fancier and more professional but I'm locked into something else at the moment. My crafty brain wants to go in too many directions.

It would also be helpful for information on what kinds of bags you can make with a non-industrial machine so newbies can get in some easy practice and it will also help us decide if we want to splurge on an industrial machine if the we don’t necessarily plan on starting a business making bags. I have the same Juki. I love this machine. It will sew just about anything. I just made wheel covers for our motorhome. Heavy material. I also made a spare tire cover for the Jeep out of vinyl, with a welt. 4 layers of vinyl. Great little machine. I started quilting with it. I have a long arm, now, but still use the Juki for piecing. I also have an industrial Brother, but I prefer this machine. I have made a couple bags, but it’s been a while. So thinking about doing some more. Thanks for this video.

Thank you NT. I have bought a lot on Amazon, but those are often things that don't last so long in humid settings. The hardware gets rust, but that might be because it is pretty humid here in the Bahamas. You get what you pay for.. I think Etsy has some hardware that cost more and is of better quality. So does other purse-making companies. Check out the resource page on www.annebonneybags.com. Many bag makers sell hardware.

Hi, User rd2ew9zt4x. I don't produce bags for sale. I'm located in The Bahamas, and there is no mail system here. Not even Fedex on the island where I live. So the shipping of the bags is impossible. So I sell a few locally, right out of stores, on consignment. I also have a few for sale in Nassau. But I never ship them.
