Those binding attachments are brilliant! I had no idea! The amount of time and frustration I've put into trying to sew nice grosgrain or hems - solved!

This is great explanation, thanks! Now I wish to know how to bind corners/curves. This is when it gets difficult.

Can't thank you enough. Been screwing around with bags as therpy after hurricane Irma. Been a great way to keep busy being retired. Have made bags from sail cloth and billboards found after the storm. Using domestic machines ie old 201 and a 66 hand crank has worked but seams get too thick. Your video has helped as I did not know about grosgrain. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and the quality of your videos.

i knew there had to be a simple way to do it without the attachment. thanks for showing me how.

Thanks. :) Would you mind making a video of how you are sewing binding tape using one of the attachments? This my biggest struggle at the moment. Greetings from Latvia :)

Thanks for sharing. Can share a link to the binder tape it self. All I found in Amazon are double or single fold bias tape

Great vid! How would you approach sewing binding to a rounded corner, I've not been able to get a clean finish and wondered if you had any tips? Thanks
@BagBuff3 жыл бұрын
That’s tough. I’d go with the double stitch method. It just takes a lot of practice to get it even and tight. No cheat code for that one
@MJJEF013 жыл бұрын
@@BagBuff thank you! Will give that a go, I’ve got an attachment for a domestic machine but it tends to not work well on corners

Yeah a question. Can you show how to go around corners with binding tape please.

I've been asked to help my freind sew military vehicle seat cushions and need to make binding go around an inside corner, any suggestions? I'm at a loss as to making it look clean and professional. Thank you for any help you can give!

What do you suggest to get a clean (nice looking) start and stop if binding the top edge?
@BagBuff3 жыл бұрын
Will the piece being bound later be sewn into a seam?
@iLoveLeatherNYC3 жыл бұрын
@@BagBuff No. If you are sewing the top edge (on a tote, look at the LV Neverfull) for example. The trick is to start and stop the edge binding nicely, not create too much bulk AND balance the outside and inside stitch then add the curve ball of leather binding.
@BagBuff3 жыл бұрын
@@iLoveLeatherNYC Looks like LV is using the exact length of the opening and butting up the binding to itself. This means no overlap. Another way you could do this is to skive each end of the leather binding and have them overlap each other so there is no visible gap. The key here is to cut the leather to the exact length of the opening (method 1) or exact length of opening + ~1/2 to 3/4" (method 2).
@iLoveLeatherNYC3 жыл бұрын
@@BagBuff Yes got it. The hard part is sewing on the leather binding to the top edge flawlessly. You have to do it in one pass. How? Thinking there must be an attachment like the ones you show'd in the video.
@BagBuff3 жыл бұрын
I would check out Tennessee Attachments and Atlanta Attachments. They may have an off the shelf attachment you can pick up. If not, they are able to make a custom one for you for exactly the material thickness you are working with.

What is the grey fabric that you're using? It looks like it has a softer feel than a lot of Cordura but maybe it's just the video. I'm looking to make a duffle bag that has a nicer feel and look than just standard ripstop material so I can use it for work as well.
@mariusdt60123 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen, could you recommend what binding to use for canvas or waxed canvas bags? I currently use the same fabric but cutting on the bias is wasteful. I want to buy on the roll. Have tried cotton binding from fabric stores but that stuff is too lightweight, perhaps if you could guide me to the product you use, I could then look for something similar closer to my location. Thanks

I'm not sure why no one has commented, but grosgrain or grosgrain ribbon is available in all our local stores... Online I would guess ripstopbytheroll. Classic Kuny tool bags use grosgrain.

Gros is pronounced like grow.
@BagBuffАй бұрын
I've had a successful career pronouncing it the way that I do. I use both and I really don't see the need to use one over the other.
