There are 4 lifting points on that excavator, 2 on the counterweight and 2 at the base of the boom. They only used one on the counterweight at the start. That cable on the boom was sketchy.
@Rimrock300
@Rimrock300 4 жыл бұрын
Those 4 lifting points are made for lifting of the excavator in upright position. When those lifting point are not available out of different reasons, one get on with the job and use some of the many optional lifting points. The cable on the boom is just for balance, most of the load is at the cables on the excavator swivel, which is a heavy peace of iron no problem whatsoever taking the weight of the machine.
@tiredoldmechanic1791
@tiredoldmechanic1791 4 жыл бұрын
@@Rimrock300 At some point, you will have to put the machine in the upright position. Connecting one lifting cable to the right counterweight and boom lift points and the other to the left side lifting points would have made it easy to upright the machine in place and lift it to bring it to shore. Many machines have been uprighted that way. Even using the cable around the slewing bearing and another on the right side lift points would have allowed a more controlled upright on land. Putting cables around sharp edges isn't advisable. Chain should have been used with a double wrap around the stick to avoid the hydraulic cylinder.

Talk about doing things the hard way! Just grab the thing around the track while it was still hanging before they set it down the first time and pull the thing upright as the crane lowered it. Could have done the whole thing in two steps.

A couple of things: 1) I would of loved to see the deflection of the boom on that lift. 2)With all the riggers and operators on scene...That was the best idea they came up with to put it on it's tracks. 3)Why did it take so long? The longest part should of been setting up the crane.

I have to agree with Charles Burroughs, it also makes no sense why they put the excavator back out over the water and then hooked up the chain from the other excavator to it. All they had to do was get it on land, set it on the ground and as they let out slack, use the other excavator to hold the back ho arm up, so that it slowly tips back onto its tracks. I am sure Rempke paid out the ass for that recovery!

They made a simple up righting of equipment hard, the simple thing to have done is bring the excavator over some more to have enough room.Then let the lower side track catch ground as the lift crane moved it's boom back toward the river. Now this action would have started the excavator to lean back toward higher track which with careful spooling out=down cable would control lean over back to being on both tracks,the cable that went thru knuckle of excavator boom would have kept from going over all the way.

You must be a poor one then cause nothing did go wrong did it and you were not there to see all the angles it was connected. The other heavy equipment and amount of cables and chains they used made it a non-safety issue so when you openly say a safety issue and do not explain where an how ....your opinion at that point means nothing and your claim as a safety professional is highly in doubt as a professional would have stated clearly what the issue was. The only issue I had with it was where they uprighted it when they had plenty of SAFE room to do it on more accessible and flatter ground then the water and still be able to safely get the other vehicles out of there

What is this the Moe Curly and Larry Construction Company? I'll bet that costs a lot of money $50.000. to 100.000. and I love how the expensive crane has a $30 amber light on it. Where do they buy that Walmart or AutoZone? They probably broke the expensive light off so many times the owner decided to buy a cheap one. Was that Shemp Howard running the land-based backhoe? and none of them were wearing hard hats.
