I have been working in pastels for a short time and was happy to find you. I paint in watercolor,which I enjoy, but want to learn something else, and pastels was my choice.

in my studio when it is humid I put a thick piece of linen over them to draw out the moisture in them that is from living in the south

Love your videos. I'd love to see you put a mat around the finished piece once in awhile. It would set it off and the side marks would not be distracting. I notice that you leave many of your marks sharp and do not soften more of them... Is there a reason? Also, do you have a video on cutting the sky into the trees and sky holes. I have difficulty with that.

Hi Pat, lately I've been playing with a more direct style and letting the marks sit up on the paper more with little or no blending. I also began using Pastelmat as my primary paper and it holds the marks in a very particular manner. I will try to remember to put a mat around the paintings! Thanks!!!

8 just started watching your videos. I am very new to painting. Do you use a fixative after you finish painting? If yes what are your favourites?

Is it best to paint on a hard easel surface or do you use a foam surface ontop of your easel..by the sound of scratching its hard ?
@PaintingLessonsWithMarla6 жыл бұрын
I use a foam core backing board so it's not quite so hard. The camera really picks up the sound!

Your videographers scratching on his own pastel is so loud and super annoying. Ugh. Your work is great.

Alta E, I agree! It is very distracting! Perhaps he should disconnect his microphone!
