I ordered a set of these last week and am anxiously awaiting their arrival! I've wanted to play bagpipes for literally 16 years and have decided that this is how I'm gonna take the plunge!

Hey man here is a link so you can get 5 pounds of your next order at Bagpipes Galore. Apparently if you buy something I get 5 pounds off too😂🤣 i.refs.cc/IrXB6vdr?smile_ref=eyJzbWlsZV9zb3VyY2UiOiJzbWlsZV91aSIsInNtaWxlX21lZGl1bSI6IiIsInNtaWxlX2NhbXBhaWduIjoicmVmZXJyYWxfcHJvZ3JhbSIsInNtaWxlX2N1c3RvbWVyX2lkIjo1NjM2MTgxNjh9

@@cbasalt12754 Hi, thanks for that, I'll definitely use it within the next couple of months ! My attempts with pipes so far have been with Pakistani Uilleann Pipes, where I am getting some results, but really only on a chanter with no drones. So within about a minute of opening the Practice Pipes I had attached a bellows, which was surprisingly easy to do. I bought a plastic Smallpipe chanter from Bagpipes Galore last year, and I was hoping it would fit the stock - it did ! So that just left the small matter of lowering the drones by about a tone . That took about another two minutes, using two pieces of plastic tubing stuck on the ends of the drones . I'll hopefully be improving on the plastic tubing soon . So that is the story so far, I have a fantastic working set of " Smallpipes " , which are really reliable and sound amazing . The only thing is that I am not 100% happy with using a plastic chanter reed, and Bagpipes Galore don't make a cane reed, not even with their actual Smallpipes . I am probably going to get in touch with them and ask if they can suggest some solution - I will buy a set of their Smallpipes if they can supply a couple of cane reeds . Watch this space ...

@@PIPEHEAD So did you finally get your set of Bagpipes Galore practice pipes and are they enough bang for the buck without being total crap? Also, if you would like to see a fun video from a guy who really knows what he's doing as he struggles with some Amazon Pakistani bagpipes, check out the link below... kzbin.info/www/bejne/gaq4qYmrlNKcqZI

So I was wondering roughly how long it took you to get them after you ordered them?

I have just got mine today and find the drones a little overpowering the chanter but still very cool. What are tips on tuning the drones? Tune to low A? I just really want mine to sound good.
@cbasalt127544 жыл бұрын
Sorry havent been on this account in a while. In general to tune my drones you tune them to the E by sound. Some do the high a but you lose the integrity of the note severly when your bottom hand is not present. Play one of these two notes so that my right hand is free to tune the drones. You can shut off a certain drone by flicking the top of it, cutting of the air. Then, making sure it is well oiled, turn the drone you want to tune while moving it upward, or downward. Now tune the other drone. If you fine that squeezing harder makes your drones more in tune, they are flat, and in this instance you would move the drone slides down. Let me know if you have any more questions.

I have some other sound improvement tips if still interested.

@@cbasalt12754 So different to tuning Highland pipe drones? In our band we told to tune to low A. So with the teeny pipes I will have better sound tuneing to E. Also excuse me for being a moron but I'm not sure what you mean by playing E or high A while having your left hand free to adjust the drones. Are you meaning I use my right hand to play E/A while having left hand free? I don't think I could do that. I have never been taught the technical side of music so I don't really know what I'm doing. I'm just trying to get rid of the wah-wah-wah to get a steady consitant waaaaaah and trying to make the two drones sound as if they are one. See, I told you I don't know what I'm doing but I just can't stand the sound of drones not in tune. Thanks for reply.

@@cbasalt12754 Adjusting the drones with the left hand while playing E with the right? Are you sure? It just doesn't seem quite right. Cheers again.
@cbasalt127544 жыл бұрын
Ah sorry meant to play high e with your left hand "top hand", and to use your right hand " bottom hand" to adjust. If you played a low A, while being the exact note to tune too, you have no hand free to adjust the drones. As you have noticed, when pressure is applied to the drones they change in pitch. No real way to stop this, other than tune a little, let them settle, hear if it is in tune, and then tune some more. Would you like me to make a quick video on tuning today?

Thanks very much for this current review. I was looking for something like this that has some sort of a drones to it that was not just a straight goose. And they are RG Hardie set of practice pipes, while I'm sure is much better quality, convert to $500. But if I can get something that's fairly okay for under $200, that works for me. Did you order yours directly from bagpipes Galore or did you get them off Amazon or what?

You can get a much better price on the bagpipes galore website, they are on sale currently for around 130. Thanks

@@cbasalt12754 Thanks for the tip. I couldn't find any further information on them. Are those drone reeds replaceable if they break? And if the bag splits, do you know if you can just buy just a replacement bag or do you have to re-buy a whole new item?
@cbasalt127544 жыл бұрын
I belive they do sell replacement bags on their site and I know they have tounge and bridle replacements for the drones. They would certainly work with you if you had a problem, they provide excellent customer service.

Hey dude can you give me a toot if you get the mini pipes tuning video done. My pipe major tuned em for me and they sound like crap now. I liked the sound better the way I had them. The small drone he has pushed right down so only 2cm of brass is showing. I'm going to put them back to how had them but I still don't know what I'm doing.
