Actually, the Chinese art of Pa kua/Bagua is the root of Japanese Jiu Jitsu.........Japanese people had indigenous MA's but did go to China to learn. Remember, being on the floor is nice against 1 person maybe......But against more, You're dead........Forget Gracie JiuJitsu........You'll die if you ground writhe....LOL

MMA would be ok for street if they adapt it and take the floor wrestling away. Never will be effective as internal martial arts though

Having mixed things in with Wing Chun, I've found sometimes the best way to close the gap is with a quick shin kick to cause a quick jolt of pain and take focus off the hands so you can take advantage. The punching into a punch concept actually works more often than I thought too. But a lot of other methods don't close well in my opinion. Best thing is catching them off guard which takes more than blocking and advancing. Best way to me, land a hit where they don't think it's coming.

Greetings, his "back is already on the mat" as we would say. Beginning and many things to tighten up, yes I understand but you need to teach him to have a better attack for your training as well. Thank you. pax, PL

would it be better to slip the jab and use the bagua foot work to blind side the opponent, so that you dont have to engage his arm bridge.

This is good teaching. But there is a difference between practicing in session and practicing it in a real situation. It is good to spar with friends outside the class to get a better handle of it. I practice my boxing and my Taijiquan with my friends to make me a better fighter.

@@Boredom_Incarnate i mean, it *kinda* is pointless to train Bagua for self defense because there are many other arts that are teach to do that better. But if you have already learned from other arts, it is good to learn Bagua is possible, it is very different from most martial arts

@@michaelhudson5563 as a side note, even though it has offensive maneuvers, it still isn't to par with competitive mma. Not even close. The sad fact is that traditional martial arts never nurtured competitive fight training. Their philosophical components never seemed to allow it. Yes, there were "lei teis" (raised platform fights) but their rule sets allowed someone to win by pushing them off the platform and not by using better techniques.

Apparently most of these so called internal Kung fu artist don't think conditioning have anything to do with fighting.Look at most of them and they all have a belly that looks like a 9 month mother to be.Well if you just saw the resent UFC fight you saw a fighter lose his title because those shot to his guts took him out, and I am sure his big gut was in better shape than a lot of these Kung fu artist.

+airforceallie crosses and uppercuts are evasive counters. A jab is how you work in on a target the cross will likely follow a jab. The are two channels you have to worry about left and right if you can avoid getting hit and get into grappling range the rest of your movements should be effective. That's what's key I think. Also It's easier to move out of the way of a punch then it is to block and counter. I once heard that the original shaolin monks trained to not black but just avoid getting it. Also brute power and force can over ride technique.
@pandragon1974
@pandragon1974 8 жыл бұрын
+Joseph Kennedy most guys in a street fight are untrained and will lead with a cross rather than jab because they're scared or cocky and hoping to end it with a single punch. Plus if they never took boxing, they probably don't even know how to jab effectively so planning for an opening cross punch is still a good idea. Also, nearly all of Bagua involves intercepting strikes in order to overwhelm opponents or circling around to attack the back of the head, kidneys, etc. Bagua doesn't focus on trading or avoiding blows. It seeks superior positions and exploits them

I don't want to body shame, but I have less respect for a martial arts teacher who doesn't stay in shape. Endurance, flexibility, and strength are essential for health and self defense, and this teacher doesn't show the discipline necessary to achieve those. Not everyone needs to be trim and fit, but people who teach martial arts should be. Full disclosure, I am a long way from fit, but I am also not pretending to be a fighter.
