Found this video many years ago when I got my Cold Steel Trailmaster and a RiverCitySheath. This video popped up in my video feed today, so I watched it again. This is a very informative, and thoughtfully made presentation on the carry method(and more) of a large knife. I got more out of this video on my recent viewing than I did the first time all those years ago. (Wisdom is funny like that.) Well done, Sir. Thank you for taking the time to create it.

I've had my sheath made and delivered by Mike for over ten years. It is in my,opinion the very best way to carry a blade that size. I have spent time with Robin and Mike for a weekend and never noticed the blades being carried even with one gentleman in gym shorts and tee shirt. There are many supposed experts out there on blades but I've seen nothing compare to the skill set these gentlemen posses. I would rather tackle a lawn mower than attempt a confrontation with these guys. Great presentation as always brownie good seeing you again.

My favorite big knife carry is my Randall No.1 that my uncle carried through three tours in Vietnam. It not only has a lot of history, it is a very well made and balanced knife. I had a lwather IWB sheath made for it and don't leave home without it. I usually carry my Tops Moccasin Ranger along with it either on my weak side or in my weak side boot.

Thanks for sharing. I carry and draw a 7” bladed dagger daily like this, tho w OWB snap loops rather than the stud. I find that the double snap loops keep it stable and from falling forward while standing or backwards while sitting so that the hilt does not stick out and “tent” my shirt or jacket I am over 6’ tall, sorta slim, have a relatively short torso, and i cant seem to conceal one bigger than this well. I have to keep it high enough so i can sit w/o it coming up. This also keep my pant leg from making the hilt pivot back n forth while walking

I was thinking about the difference between kydex and leather for this application. I like kydex better because it won’t bend or twist with age like leather can do. I had this sheath made for my Prather War Bowie three years ago and have enjoyed it immensely. Have me needed it for self defense, but it comes out fast when someone asks if I can cut something. The look on their face is worth more than the cost of a sheath. 😎

Wonderful video sir! You can absolutely carry a knife this size concealed! I carry a 10.5” Laredo Bowie every single day, for around 2 years now, and I’m 5’6” 165lbs. I wear wife beaters every day (now I do usually wear a thin Western snap shirt over this when in public to conceal that bowie, but more than once when I didn’t have any cover shirt I simply pulled the tank top over the handle of the Laredo, no it wasn’t exactly invisible but hey, it’s good enough to go to Walmart or something. And I wear my tank tops tight-not this baggy shit kids wear these days. I carry it in the leather sheath with the belt peg just like this sheath-and thanks for the contact information for Panther, already contacted them! One question, if you’re right handed do you wear the sheath on your right side? For some reason it’s uncomfortable to me, and I have gotten used to wearing it on the left side even though I am right handed, and it takes 2 hands to draw, big thank you very much for this “cav draw” technique.
@azqkr6 жыл бұрын
First, thanks for the thoughts on the vid. I carry Cav draw left side, even though I'm right handed, because the gun is on the right side, and I don't want the knife nor the gun to be in close proximity to avoid fouling either draw. I'm fortunate that I'm basically ambi dextrous in many disciplines, knives, guns, sticks etc so I still draw one handed with the left hand, and if I need or want to can move the blade to the other hand on the fly with nary any interruption in flow, as demonstrated
@MrRugercat456 жыл бұрын
Robin Brown now, if I am right handed, it technically would be better to wear it on my right, since I am not ambidextrous, correct? I don’t carry a gun (yet) for several reasons (no, I’m not a felon) So, I carry the Laredo and O.C. The O.C. I have is a Kimber Pepperblaster 2, so it’s drawn like a pistol, right side for me, maybe some adjustments are due to speed up my draw.
@azqkr6 жыл бұрын
If you're right handed, it would be normal to carry it on your strong side Cav draw. The gun is my primary, so it goes on the right, the blade is a BUG secondary for me, so it goes on the opposite side. I just have the advantage of ambi use though most won't. Also, I can cross draw it right handed if I choose to from the left side so either hand has access to the blade. Seated, cross draw works best, standing, either works with as much speed of presentation for me from concealed.

Having a knife of this caliber on hand, this fast, is impressive. Stopping an edged weapon attack by shooting someone, of course, works, but even center mass hits with most duty caliber handguns take time to work and do nothing to parry or control incoming weapons. Sometimes taking the hand could prove faster and more definitive. This all only applies within certain distance. I'd say approximately 3 to 4 yards would be your max optimal window. Of course I'm no expert, just thinking out loud. 🤔

Thank you very much for sharing! I have two questions though: 1) Does this not cause hip pain by pressing against the hip bone? 2) Is this system bulletproof against losing the knife when running, e.g. while running away from a threat (which should always be the number one choice)? Thank you very much in advance for taking the time to answer my question.
@azqkr4 жыл бұрын
Hi John, No hip pain carrying mine all day. It sorta floats in position, so moving doesn't create hot spots as it would if stationary. Second question about losing it when running. It would depend on how tight you wear your belt. I prefer my belts snug, and wearing my bowie with belt snugged, I'm not going to lose it running. Remember, the heaviest portion of the "system" is below your belt line. It's not going to just pop out of your pants. Hope that helps sir.

How does the blade forward carry work with the back cut technique. I notice you are left handed. Will the blade forward carry work on an opponent's right and left hand?
@azqkr8 жыл бұрын
Once the blade is free of the sheath, the back cut is performed no differently than sabre draw [ the way I carry it is called a cav draw ]. The back cut is performed in several directions. The 1 and 3 angles of attack work perfectly with back cut.

@qpmkro9 жыл бұрын
what makes that bagwell so good compared to others ? i know the natchez is heavy but where can i find other bowie knives that long and that nice
@qpmkro9 жыл бұрын
that's what i thought and thanks for answering. From what i can see the clip point on the hells belle is barely curved, does it still catch stuff on the back cut ? As it seems to not have any "talon" or claw like quality that i personally look for in a clip point
@qpmkro9 жыл бұрын
i understand,i thought having the point be more claw like would mean it catches flesh better and would be more damaging. How much does it whey ? Considering the price, it's not one of my choices, are there any other similar bowies out there that are more affordable ? I personally like the natchez but it seems too big. It doesn't have a distal taper, i don't like the handle, the tang design is questionable, and it seems like it wouldn't work very well if you tried carrying it around like you do. I also like an s shaped guard but it's rarely seen in production bowies. I saw your shooting videos, awesome work, having guns is one of the few things i like about your country.
@qpmkro9 жыл бұрын
the one thing i like about the natchez is the belly, i think it adds a lot to slashing effectiveness and to it's overall basic performance. I don't know why it's not a basic feature of the knife design and it's so rarely seen in bowie knives. I can't see any disadvantages for it.
