The machine is designed to handle mild steel up to 5/8" round, not the 3/4" cut in the video. The plate thickness is limited to 5/16". Most of what was videod was out of the spec range for the machine. Use a bandsaw or plasma cutter for thicker stuff and save yourself headaches. The machine works great if you stay within specs. I set up my 20 Ton hydraulic press to handle thick stuff like this and got tooling from a company in Ohio.

stephen reamer When this video was shot in 2012 I called Bailey told them what I was looking for and a machine that could handle that This is what was recommended.. Bailey has since lowerd their specs on what this machine can cut.. with that said we now have band saws and plasma cutters; )
@stephenreamer43237 жыл бұрын
Would it handle up to 3/16 sufficiently? I have a plasma cutter and band saw but for repeated jobs of 1/16"-3/16" thickness this could come in very handy if it did those thicknesses well. I plan on getting the punch to do square holes for carriage bolts. I make a lot of assembly tables and other tables for people for their wood working shops.

Well i like the video, an honest down to earth way of showing the faults, funny aswel the hanging on the bar, who cares about the gum chewing, people seem to wine about anything these days, the demonstration was real and interesting, my opinion from the London UK.

I suppose that logic would suggest that simple leverage would be impossible to cut through 2" x 1/4" angle or the other thick stuff. That's what hydraulics are for. I always take the Manf specs and multiply by .5 to get a real world working spec. Especially with Stainless

I bought the same unit 3 years ago, sold it six month later. The compagnie is not honest with the capacity... when i was able to cut 1.5 x 1.5 x 1/8" angle iron, it was so torn that i had to use a big hammer to fold it back...

I am set in the in the best position. Prior to purchasing i spoke with a Baileigh representative. I was insured that the SW-22M Manual Five Station Ironworker would work for all my applications This was not true from day one, Brand new out of the box . I called and emailed Bailegh for months. At first i just wanted it fixed. no help than I wanted my cash back. back in 2012 I asked Bailegh to post a video of the SW-22M Manual Five Station Ironworker Shear in action. Nothing still to this day

They have lowered the specs for this machine since i have posted it years a go ... I ended up going with a cold saw and have never looked back
@Chris-pb3se5 жыл бұрын
That’s a nice shear but like most of them, they’re very optimistic about its limits. They fail to consider the arm and user. For heavier stuff, a cold cut chop saw, or bandsaw is the way to go

@discountoutdoorstore9 жыл бұрын
Obviously it didn't work for your needs...what would you think of using it on thinner stuff.... 0.125 iron angle or 0.250 aluminum flat bar etc? New you can pick one up for less than $500 bucks now. I've got a bunch of saw cut stuff now that I'm thinking this could cut faster and no more deburring.
@Chazd19494 жыл бұрын
The manufacturer's testing lab probably hires a 275 lb defensive lineman to yank the lever. So, yeah, it'll cut the thick stuff - if you are a 275 lb defensive lineman.

i thought that was a possibility about them changing specs or whatever. sorry you had went through that and paid even more for it. for 500 bucks seems like a decent buy if that is the range you want to work in. maybe your review gave them pause to reconsider.

i saw the video from the company but the guy cut 1/8" thick plate very easy and hole too but 1/4" i will like see it
@JimmysTractor11 жыл бұрын
I was agreeing except where I believe you were putting more like 250lbs of force to move that lever. If you just put all your weight on it, I don't believe it would have gone through. I got a 12"X.25" shear on CL- The same exact thing as the one grainger sells for $250. I think the hole is .75" Maybe I will make a video where I hang weights from it until it shears the rod. anything more than 10 gauge, it flexes and just pushes the metal down instead of cutting it. If it sounds to good to be true

+KillerArt You would think they would have changed the Specs after this.
@incognitovirus97236 жыл бұрын
They must have KillerArt. Cos the specs he is claiming in the vid aren't on their page. Not far under, but physics is a rough times four increase when dimension increases. So cutting 6/8 vs 5/8 is like adding 50% the workload. Even though it's only a 20% increase in a single dimension.
@JimmysTractor11 жыл бұрын
180 bouncing is probably more like 250-300. Isn't there a "perfect" position for the concentric to be in so you get the most reduction in speed?

When I bought this machine back in 2012 the specs listed on the website were higher then now the company has lowered the tolerances or thickness that rhis machine will cut .. your better off buying a cold saw for the price of this machine..

there are tonnage charts online for shearing punching and breaking any thickness of steel anyone who is going to buy an iron worker should look at these charts to determine how much tonnage you will need to do your job and not end up with a piece of junk like you did it needs to be hydraulic if you are working with anything but sheet metal
