*Great product. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend I have never used a baitcaster before and did a lot of research before buying this one. I bought it with the Torrent casting rod as well and it works very nice.*

I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well kzbin.infoUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

Great video--thanks! And for those guys "afraid" of going to baitcasting, don't be: I went to my first rig a few weeks ago, and I'm hooked. Once you set it up for beginner's experience level (like I did), you won't have many backlashes/bird's nests. In addition, heavier line--I use 60lb braided going for snakeheads--also reduces backlash. Yeah, you set up for shorter casting, but since you're casting off a trolling boat or walking the shore, you don't NEED really long casts--you want ACCURATE

I haven't found a good answer to when to use the magnetic braking system, or the spool tension adjustment knob? I know they both adjust the rate of how fast or slow the line comes out, but it seems like it's two features that do the same thing? I am new to baitcasting reels, and want the best performance I can get out of my reels. If you could explain it a little more in detail that would be awesome. Great vid . I will be watching more!

Hey if you had back lashes a few time and improperly get rid of the backlashes by picking on it could cause your drag to not turn. I know this might sound confusing but you should try to pull most of your line out and re-spool could help you drag system to work again. That's what I did to mine and it worked.

Bass Pro Shops Megacast combo is 50 bucks, but for 50 bucks it is really good quality. It is essentially the same exactly reel and rod as their Tourney Special. It has magnetic brakes on it and I have mine set a 9 out of 10 and even with a high setting like that it still casts really far. Also, it has 4 ball bearings and it is very smooth. I recommend it for anyone.

I'm going to Castaic Lake this weekend. Have you fished there before? I haven't stepped foot there since 1979! Thirty-one years later, I'm ready to add to my pot with the five trout I've caught at a near by rec park. I'm picking up a new reel in Friday to slap on my ugly stik. Can't wait to put it all through the test at a REAL LAKE! HOWEVER, I'm still having problems with baitcasting. I spend more time clearing out birds next than I am trying to catch fish!

@extrem fisher if I were to guess what ur pro lem is is that u are using 10# line on your bc reel. Baitcasters typically work better/ smoother with a minimum of 12# mono, this is due to the thicker diameter of heavier lines. Smaller diameter lines tend to cut into the spool when fighting a fish and the next time u cast the li e is buried under the line on the spool which can create knots and birdnests. Try going to 14# mono or more and u will see a difference. I currently run 14# trilene xt on
@InformativeFisherman12 жыл бұрын
I agree!

That's how i keep my reels set up. The brakes are more important than the tension knob. They cast so much smoother with a loose tension knob.

It depends what your fishing for if its catfish I would go with a round reel because they hold more line but you cant palm them when you are holding them but more line is essential for catfishing. But bass fishing your at it for a long time so you want to be comfortable so you should go with a low profile hope I helped, If you have any more questions just ask

I believe it's some model of Walmart Quantum. I'll get you the specs or email you a pic on FB. NOw that I've well over 140 Rapalas and an array of jerk/rip/crank/stick/rattle baits, I need to up my game on using them. Accurace and simply getting them to do what I want at the depth I want. @InformativeFisherman The way i explain it to people is to compare spinning vs baitcasting to auto vs manual transmission in a sports car. Sure it takes practice, and youre gonna have a few screw ups before you get the hang of it, but once you find your groove you'll wonder why it took you so long to make the transition.

One setup and 50# power pro braid on my flippin stick. The 50# may sound overkill but the diameter is equivalant to about 12-14# mono so it makes casting easier than say 20# braid

@InformativeFisherman ok, I've been watching a lot of these instructional videos and I am so upset that I still can't figure out what really is the main difference between the spool adjustment and break. So the Spool knob adjusts the tightness of the spool right so the lure won't drop and the break makes sure there's no backlash. However, they both prevent backlash and to me they also help slow down the lure so what is the point of having either one of them. Convince me, good.

is there really any actual significance from using a baitcasting reel on a float rod instead of using it on a bait casting rod? i have an AVS 66 mhf which i really enjoy using its a spinning rod. and a lews S.I.C speed stick model g-6 #4 action which is a bait casting rod which is nice as well but i like my other rod. so yea. unless theres something im missing because ive tried my reel on both of them. is there really ANYTHING i should be worried about when choosing a casting rod vs a float rod? you mentioned it was just that eye.. like does it really matter? small eye vs big one? figure the bigger it is the more room so little to no difference.

the only thing i may not agree with is the weight setup for the brakes. If you tie on a light lure and set the brakes all in, like on the citica or curado, you will backlash very bad. If you have a heavy lure on its best to set the brakes as low as possible because the heavy lure can take the line with it as opposed to the light lure that can easily be slowed by the wind.
@calebmeek150911 жыл бұрын
@djdk42581 I recently watched a video that said if the backlash occurs immediately after the cast, adjust the brakes & if it happens toward the end of the cast, adjust the spool tension.
@dookiekong00713 жыл бұрын
@InformativeFisherman hold on, when I have a heavier lure, don't I turn the break less or more. One of the other videos said the heavier the lure, the less and vice versa which I think also makes sense since the lighter the lure, the more anglers tend to power up the cast causing more blacklash so it needs more break. But you explain, please.

You adjust your spoon tension with your brakes off!!! And no a slow fall does not mean it's perfect, the lure should fall slowly until it hits the water then stop. Also as a beginner with a bait caster, you are better off learning how to cast with NO BRAKES. This is how you master thumb pressure, and become the best caster you can be. It will also help you battle the winds when there kicking. P.S. I have been throwing bait casters for 20 years.

Okay, I'm dense. I'm trying to figure out the difference between the spool tension knob and the braking sysem adjustment dial (I have a cheaper baitcaster).
