i sold my classic 500 chrome a few months back( when it became a pain in my ass )and i bought a new avenger street 220...which i think was a wise decision. re lacks quality. they r providing junk for that price. the engine of my re came up with crank and bearing issues as soon as i completed 10000 kms and it vibrated like a concrete mixing machine. i hated to take my bike for long rides coz it used to make my palm and fingers numb. avenger on the other hand is much smooth and refined and the parts are easily available so easy to maintain. am 5'7 ..so avenger suits my height. it is a very comfortable bike. People (including me) run after RE to satisfy our souls. it is a phsychological thing. new RE users never find faults with their bikes. they see onlh the pros. but will start finding the cons once they get bored with it. it does have lot of cons. reliability quality of the parts vibrations after sales service......

Thanks for being truthful and sharing this, many RE owners can't admit this because of ego issues, but as a reviewer I can't hide the truth even though I get a lot of hatred for speaking the truth. My friend who owns the 350 here wants to sell it off as well.

Ride With Rahul after selling my chrome i made up my mind and started looking for a bike which gave more comfort for money. coz i had battled 2 yrs with my RE doing all sorts of customization to reduce the vibration and wasted lot of money on that. now am quite happy with my avenger street 220. i think this is one of the most underrated bike available in the market. may b coz of the bajaj tag.

Take look at the sales figures, its quietly making the numbers and the profit without screaming out loud about heritage and other things.

Mithun Menon never thought the Avenger could off road, I thought that would be it's weakness, not that anyone is supposed to off road with that style of motorcycle. Would like to test it again off road then.

Superb comparo Rahul! I especially like the part where u shared that the Avenger 220 can cruise at 120 with few vibes whereas the Thunderbird above 80kmph vibrates a lot.
@HimalChakraborty
@HimalChakraborty 8 жыл бұрын
+Kit Walker thats because Avenger comes with Pulsar engine, i.e. a sports bike engine. Consider the thump & torque of a real cruiser.. even Harley motorcycles also vibrate.
@HimalChakraborty
@HimalChakraborty 8 жыл бұрын
+Kit Walker every motorcycle vibrates at a certain speed range .. when u go slower than that or faster than that it becomes smooth again. My Classic 350 vibrates in btwn 55-60 kmph but its smooth & stable above that. I never felt vibration at 80kmph

Himal Chakraborty Vibrations are ok as long as they come after 100Kmph....I mean no offense but apart from the initial rush a bullet gives it does not justify..(And Beleive me I Wanted to go for the Bullet std 500 until I actually rode it).the power to torque ratio, cost and maintainence costs besides I have a friend with a classic 350 Maroon colour who kept changing his clutchwire endlessly till his mechanic sugggested a splendor Clutchwire ...and now it is lasting longer so if I have to choose between a 97K 220 CC bike which goes to 120Kmph without jarring my bones and a 1.6 lakh Bike which starts to complain above 80-90Kmph and takes me to the mechanic very often ....Well what do you think I must choose?

I owned an avenger, rode it for 11 years, sold it last month, bought a Thunderbird , and I regret it. There is no comparison of the comfort of avenger, I hope they will come up with a bigger engine. Thunderbird vibrates a lot, and the seat is less comfortable, both of the disks are slower to react. the headlight is much better though, bigger fuel tank, and last but not the least the thumping sound .

i own a thunerbird and you get the vibrations only till completing 1000 to 1500 kms after the engine is set you will find the vibrations gone and very less at top speed when compare to the brand new one, now i can cruise at 115km/hr with no issues at all an it feels you are going at 60 km/hr :) , easily goes to 100 in the thir gear it self , as you mentioned the torque is amazing im in love with TB350 .

+Shiva kumar , the bike is great (I own a 2006 model). But good luck with the service. Unlike the other (machine assembled) bikes, when there is a problem, it can be fixed with the last resort of simply replacing that part with a new one since its machine assembled. But the RE is differes here, it is mostly assembled by hand till date. That makes it more depended on the Mech! The ones in RE workshops mostly are either incompetent or don't spend the time it requires to fix the problem. This makes you hate the bike itself. It feels great when there is no problem, but to fix a simple issue, you'll go through a LOT! I spent 16K in fixing my engine last month, too delivery after 2 weeks, the next day the bike din't bloody start! Oil dripping all over! Wrong clutch cable used for replacing the old one (Instead of the double bend long cable, the new TB's single bend short one was used!) The mirrors were miles off ( one pinting me the other the road, like the sky) Not to miss the rocker noise. Missed to install the breather tank! when I said the oil is dripping, they said "some little oil may drip, when you go on long trips, just check the oil level once every 100 kms and top up the oil as required! ( like seriously??) I had the compression section removed earlier, since there was a constant problem of oil leakage. Cos I never had starting problems in my bike before. This time when I had the starting problem, after my own assessment (after they failed to asses the root cause twice) I found the problem is with the compression and shared the same with them. They said, they're knew this problem would come when the engine was rebuild, in the absence of that cable. If they knew, why dint they do it! Got no answer for that. Here comes the best part, after a week or so, I started experiencing heavy vibrations especially during gear shifts (I also had replaced the chain and Sprocket) I thought it must be either the chain is too tight or too loose. During the assessment with the mech, he was checking the chain and pointed me that chain is fine, we noticed the left Shock absorber is out and at the edge of the rod there! MY God! One more speed breaker, and it could have came of me ending up in ICU or the mortuary! There are more to this with just this instance. I can probably write a book on all other experiences since I owned my bike!

+Giridharan Dhanashaker Yes... those are the experiences with an old RE.... but the new ones have come a long way from that.... so much so.... that RE bullet purists say,.... "RE has lost its charm, now, any idiot can ride an RE ...... it has become like a pulsar...."!!!! Also... seriously contemplate a better mechanic.... the xperience with yours is unimaginable and nightmarish.... but dont woory there are bajaj mechanics who screw your happiness for a 50-70k bike much worse than that!!!

hi rahul, liked this video bcs of the information in it! Can u pleas tell if you Ever skid on the avenger220 while riding it this whole while? i intend to ride it in city and highways for office usage and will use it a LOT. i am recovering from a torn shoulder muscle and cant afford an accident due to inconsistent brake handling and ignorance towards safety from a company. Please explain how safe you Personally think the bike is when 1) under 50 kms in city limits, 2) above 50kms in highways (all the way upto its top speed) All input will greatly be appreciated, thanks in advance!
@RideWithRahulOfficial
@RideWithRahulOfficial 8 жыл бұрын
The bike is very safe in city speeds upto even 80-90 km/h But under hard braking conditions from high top speeds you have to be careful. Because the front has a tendency to lock up if you brake hard. You have to use both the brakes together, front 60% and rear 40% and shift weight towards the front a bit to balance out the braking. There is no ABS so the rider skill is the only thing. If you don't take it over ,80 its very easy to manage.

+Sanjeev Hariharan as I am not the owner of the bike it will be hard to cover the motorcycle in that detail. tyre pressure and all you can get from the manual. and KTM will not service it. Rahul.. First of all you are doing a great job.. But Royal Enfield dont require to change their designs as they specifically say retro cruisers.. And due to the retro styling the motorcycles are in a huge demand.. I too own a TB500. But driving a avenger in front of a TB feels very kind of animated. . N the services of bajaj i guess you must be knowing it.

+Turbolicious the services of Bajaj scares me less than the breakdown stories of RE bikes ij the middle of the tours. And yes, I cant forget the vibrations which they could have taken away with a simple counterbalancer. But yes, RE doesn't need to make new bikes. Why spend on R&D when you have a free cult following willing to buy and recommend your outdated motorcycles?

@RideWithRahulOfficial
@RideWithRahulOfficial 8 жыл бұрын
performance wise both the bikes are the same, I like the styling of the street 220 a lot more and the low handlebars give it great handling. unless you want to keep the bike for highway touring only, I would suggest the street 220 because, head Turner looks (cruise model looks like the old Avenger), better handling in city decent comfort in highway as well.
@kitwalker2103
@kitwalker2103 8 жыл бұрын
Ok thanks for that Rahul....Although I like the chrome on the cruise I would agree that the street is better in handling dept as 80% of my rides would be in the city and the rest for highway....looking back now Handling was the reason I had not purchased the Avenger 200 at the time!I only hope this one is easy on my lowerback!

Hey Rahul I have a classic 350.And I want to switch to alloy wheels and tubeless tyres.But I have construction work going on in my city and i have read on the internet that alloy wheels are not suitable for uneven roads as it bends.So whats your take on it?And which company's alloy wheel are the best and which tubeless tyres to use as the OEM spec'd tyres are not available
@RideWithRahulOfficial
@RideWithRahulOfficial 8 жыл бұрын
+Gagandeep Singh alloy wheels are weaker than spoke wheels, but it can take uneven roads. I am not sure of the options but a lot of alloys i have seen on Enfield. As for the tyre, i would recommend MRF or Michelin, you can always upsize the tyres a bit.

The RE wins if.... a. you are 80+ kgs b. you are 5.10 + in height c. hill climb (torque ~60% higher torque!!) a la himachal and kerala or any place where the terrain is full of ups and downs.... d. pillion rider..... e. gravel ridden or sandy roads... the same disadvantageous weight becomes an advantage... feels like a TANK. the TB can cross a rail track..... (done it....) f. above reason helps on beach side roads as well to counter the winds.... g. better pillion backrest h..... ~1.20-1.30>>> "the avenger is premium"... with shit loads of plastics???? "the ?bullet? is age old??? what the fuck???" 1. it is a Thunderbird,,.... NOT a Bullet!!!!!!!!!! 2. TB-350 in 2013... rear disk+projector HL+led tail lights+digital speedo(2 trip meters, digi fuel indicator, and a fucking tacho......)+ remove the rear seat for luggage storage and a split seat AND HAZARD LIGHTS!!! you blind???? 1.30~1.40 "they have tried to add modern bits like in h.2. but STILL it is an old machine......." saala kuchbhi????? 1.40~1.50 "RE shape is categorized as Std.... but Avngr as a true urban cruiser...." by who?????????? I personally love the avenger for the comfort and the price.... and in city maneuvrability.... but on touring...... the RE wins... Also... for heavier big built guys... TB or the whole of RE is a better choice... Skinny guy tests "cruisers" on highway... SEEMS LEGIT... chootiyapa.... Last but definitely not the least......... THE GODDAMN ADDICTIVE NARCOTIC SOUND!!!!!!!!!! the avenger sounds like my pulsar!!!!!! NOT A FUCKING CRUISER!!!!
@Kishore3070
@Kishore3070 8 жыл бұрын
+Utkarsh Malhotra Rightly said. The reviewer says that the new avenger is built from ground up ! May be he was ignorant of the previous generations of the avenger, which have remained more or less the same aesthetically ever since the Eliminator. Just a new sticker job, a new handle bar and an alloy made the Avenger more appealing and futuristic ???? While still carrying the same 220 cc engine from mid 2010. On the other hand, most of the top auto journalists have found the Thunderbird to be a good handling machine with so many positives like a 20 litre tank, projector headlight, hazard lights, rear disc brakes, etc. Any ways, its left to the customers to decide what they want to pick. People with a low budget but still want the cruiser feel, go with the Avengers. While those with a little more maturity and money bracket, will go with the Thunderbird, as they are almost twice the price of the Avengers.
@utkarshmalhotra5008
@utkarshmalhotra5008 8 жыл бұрын
+Kishore K Yes!!!! I completely forgot about that!!!!!!! although bajaj has been upgrading their engines gradually earlier..... 180>>200>>220.......that grunt of a cruiser is missing......... what was even more irritating was the fact that they would de-tune the engine to perform a little less than the pulsar counterpart giving significantly lesser power and torque.... but no boost in mileage .... niether was the sound of the engine tuned to suit a cruiser...... The alloys and the matte black finish is more than welcome.... i personally liked the avenger.... i make it a point to rent only these bikes on trips ... they are super comfortable and for the price... even now is a good option for >>>>>>>>>>>> THOSE WHO CANNOT AFFORD OR COMMIT TO A ROYAL ENFIELD......... I myself have been contemplating gettin an avenger.... but something has been missing in the bike for a long time, the avenger always has been lacking the all round cruiser feel..... bajaj is no idiot, after all, they are the ones who started the performance biking in india with the pulsars and bought KTM, ninjas and the Triumph... . they have aced the competition in the market easily by giving a better all round product at a better price and steadily gained a strong foothold in the market.... The new RS200 and the older 200 NS are a testament to that...... also... upcoming 400cs and ss models would be more than welcome.... but bajaj should realize that Indians do value cruisers very much and once exposed to the comfort.... would choose a cruiser any day over standard models like discover etc... if possible.... I personally know a lot of people who had to forgo the avenger because of lack of the cruiser feel and the unaffordability of an RE and had to settle for 200 NS or Unicorn or some weirder combinations.... If bajaj put in a little more effort and actually develops a thumping 250 - 300 cc torquey awesome sounding cruiser engine .... yes .... it will give the RE a run for the money.... All said and done.... this is still a shitty comparison.....!!!

+Vijit Allada Exactly...!!! Not to mention the sheer torque advantage the TB has when fully packed and loaded plus navigating through circuitous hill climbs in hill stations etc... I personally own a TB-500 (for the extra power) and live in a area where i travel 50km to and fro per day to work...that too from sea shore to a hill ... it used to be a pain on my unicorn (although i loved the bike for various other factors) but now... i simply look forward to the trip every single day!!! the ride quality is unmatched.. comfort is superb... my personal feeling is that a person can prioritize the bikes in the following order of desirability: TB 500>>>TB 350>>> Avenger not to offend any TB 350 owners... but what we lose as additional cash on price and fuel costs you gain in the power dept.

The shield stops the windblast on the highway but does reduce performance a bit. It's what a lot of long distance tourer guys prefer. You can always take it off if you don't like it. For the zippy handling, my vote goes for the Street 220..

@RideWithRahulOfficial
@RideWithRahulOfficial 8 жыл бұрын
+Naresh Reddy haven't ridden the RTR 200 have ridden the avenger and gixxer SF. I suggest if you are looking for sporty performance, nice in city, corners well a little aggressive seating position then the Gixxer is the bike for you. However, Avenger is nice in city, flickable, relaxed on both city and highway. Braking and handling both better in Gixxer SF. Avenger has better comfort, softer suspension and highway cruising going on for it. Powerwise, the Avenger feels more powerful no doubt. Mileage wise the Avenger is 38-42 and Gixxer 40-42 km/l

@RideWithRahulOfficial 8 жыл бұрын
+arnab das the owner here has toured all over India with luggage and he didn't face any problem. He didn't have a pillion though. Thunderbird has more Torque and it has more torque to weight ratio as well. So I guess primarily on torque, TB has the upper hand. I still think this motorcycle can handle pillion and luggage and is more comfortable as well. But outright torque, the Thunderbird has a lot more.

Please don't say anything about this brand when you don't know what this brand is or it represents.people around the world are not crazy to shell out money just like this. avenger I'd a cruiser for street. ofcourse it won't have the same capabilities of a bullet for 600 km long rides! it's not meant for that long distance cruise . bullet is heavier has bigger engine and can cruise longer. but it's nowhere as comfortable as an avenger for city +highway cruises of average regular distances. which would be like a commute to the office or something maybe within 100 km. bullet would be a pain in the ass to maneuver

firstly.. stop calling it a bullet.. not every RE is a bullet. Secondly, i can cruise easily on my bullet at 100. And even avenger looses stability above 100. I have a personal experience. both bikes have a top speed of about 120. REs have a lower acceleration i agree. Now coming to mileage, I get about 40 in city easily and would get more on a highway. REs seem like an old machine but they are very much updated with the technology as other brands. Thunderbird has better electronics since 2013 and avenger still can't match it. And yes looks of REs apart from Thunderbird is old school because those looks are their USP as no other company in the world can give those looks now. The days of Norton, BSA, and old triumphs are gone. Looks of REs are commended even by europeans and americans, who buy these bikes even though they can easily buy more powerful bikes than these. Who gives a flying fuck about avenger outside India? Pulsars are used for pizza delivery in many countries. At least REs have respect along with their specifications

Now tell me which other cruiser like thunderbird is available even at double the price? And I said classic and bullet doesn't have modern console because they are meant to look like a classic. But even their engines are quite updated. And have a better engine than avenger for long rides

+Anupam Singh first thing.. Avenger is a forcefully cruise bike which comes a sports bike engine. now consider the thump & pulling capacity... every goddamn cruiser motorcycles vibrates.. even Harley motorcycle designes to vibrate just to give that feel. 2ndly .. every motorcycle vibrates at a certain speed range .. when u go slower than that or faster than that it becomes smooth again. My Classic 350 vibrates in btwn 55-60 kmph but its smooth & stable above that. I never felt vibration at 80kmph

LED tail lamps?? Tachometer?? HAZARD LIGHTS?? better horns... GAS CHARGED shocks??? I just listed out 10...... in some things... it is even advanced than the HD iron 883 and the street 750!! even they both lack digi tachos and radiators/oil/liquid cooling!! the only one i can think of is Oil cooling and alloys in avenger....

Ride With Rahul - A fantastic and comprehensive review...yes indeed the Avenger 220 is a better Value For Money compared to the TBird...I have experience long touring on both the Avenger 220 & TBird 500...on any given day I would prefer a machine that works according to my will and does not work me instead...we Indians are generally mesmerized by the customary "Thump" of the REML bikes and it strikes us as an "oomph" facor so tospeak, but few realize that all that fanfare is a result of a Long Stroke configuration...the Avenger uses a much more practical square bore resulting in an increased mechanical life....the Himalayan though seems to be the best Enfield produced so far on paper....shall be looking forward to a review of that bike by you....Cheers!

This video is around a year old and if you are going to buy a motorcycle now and are going to consider things which don't look like a cruiser, I strongly recommend you test drive the Bajaj Dominar once before booking any other bike. I am coming up with that review 2 days later.

Hi Rahul , I am a proud owner of Avnger Street 220 , your first video review of Avenger Street influenced me to a good extent to get it , and yeah your review was right , Bike is lot better , and definitely an eye catchy . RE on the other side is also a good bike , but when it comes to smooth riding or handling speeds above 80 they lack the smoothness and also vibrate a lot giving us least scope to cross 100 . Good Job . Keep it up !!

Hey Rahul, thanks for the videos on Avenger Street. I found both of them to be very informative. Will be buying an Avenger soon. However, I'm stuck on whether to get the Cruise version or the 220 Street version. I'm more focused towards ride comfortability. Is there a huge margin between Cruise and street version because of the handle variation?
@RideWithRahulOfficial
@RideWithRahulOfficial 8 жыл бұрын
+Alok Pacholi the cruise gives a bit more highway comfort while compromising on the handling. I prefer the street because, 1. I like the balance between handling and comfort it achieves. 2. It feels easier to ride in city. 3. Looks stunning. The question you are asking is just a personal preference, I suggest you go to the dealership and take test drive of both. If they don't give, tell them you will buy either one of the bikes. Take the one you find suitable for you.

Hi Rahul, thanks for a very informative video. Am planning to bye street 220. I heard its not a comfortable bike for lower back. And the suspension is softer. Can you please put ur views. Pls help.
@RideWithRahulOfficial
@RideWithRahulOfficial 8 жыл бұрын
+Vijay Tumma the avenger 220 is one of the most comfortable bikes I have ridden. However, some people prefer sitting hunched forward as that takes the weight of the back and puts it more on the wrist. When you sit upright on the cruiser more weight is on your back and your arms feel relaxed, just like sitting on a sofa. So, it depends on what you want. Another thing is that, yes the suspension is soft, but a soft suspension means a more comfortable ride quality. I find the ride quality on the Benelli 300 very comfortable.

How I wish Bajaj brings Avenger 400 using Dominars engine... More Power and low-end torque is what Avenger needs which that Bajaj tuned Duke engine will provide amply! Only in dreams I guess...

I own both the bikes in question - an Avenger as well as a TB350. Without an iota of doubt, I will say that the TB is altogether another experience. Several notches above the avenger in ride quality. Surprise surprise, maneuverability in traffic is way better on a TB than on the Avenger. And don't forget the braking - a key safety need. I've on a couple of occasions skidded by applying the front brake in the avenger as the rear braking wasn't simply good enough. Contrast that with the rear disc brakes on the TB - combined with the front brakes, sudden braking is way way better. Also the Avenger does tend to tire you out on a long ride which is not the case with a TB. REs may be old, but they certainly got a lot going for them and the TB certainly sits on top of the RE offerings.

I didnt. I certainly dont push the throttle on my TB and enjoy riding at 80-90. No real issues. The TB IMHO is meant to be ridden at an easy pace and not let it rip as one might on an Avenger.

I have been using TBTS for 3 years now. Its handlebar is not as comfortable as you said. It is bent inside a bit at the grip, that bends your wrist towards the outside. Cruise it for an hour and you'll feel the pain in wrist. I liked the handlebar on Avenger, though it is smaller in height, it shouldn't matter to a person like me who is close to 6'. It goes straight out at the end. When you hold it, your hand and wrist are in the straight line, without having to bend it anywhere. Pick any foreign cruiser, say The Indian, their handlebars are similar to that of Avenger and not TBTS. In fact, I might get it on my thunderbird - if I get the OEM part.

+Alok D I found the vibrations a bit too much for me to continue for an hour on the Thunderbird. This after wearing gauntlets which filter out a bit of vibrations.

Neat review rahul, i just bought the avenger 220 street and i must say i'm mighty impressed. It is a hassle-free sporty cruiser. one that can take on the streets and highways with equal ease. the low running costs and practicality trumps over the royal enfield, which i must confess is a more true-blue cruiser.
