Back in 2012, when I first saw it instantly loved the way it looked. Then in 2015, I got a chance to ride it and decided it would be my first bike. Got it in 2017 and still love riding it till date. Totally agree with Shumi sir it's still a fun bike to ride and puts a big smile on my face after riding it.

I had an uncle who just retired from Bajaj R&D three years ago. I asked him why so many Pulsars. He shrugged and said "We don't decide what gets designed, we get a brief and we design it."

I own a NS200 for the past 9 years and loved it so much that when I started hunting for a new bike in the market I couldn't find one that gives you this much value proposition. Guess what I finally went ahead and bought the NS200 again and it always gives me a smile when I ride.

Long time coming. But I don't know why Bajaj is still reluctant to focus on their lineup more intently. Their design and choice are all over the place. P150, N160, NS160, NS200. Do you guys feel somewhere around the corner Bajaj is kind of afraid to take a leap?

Yes although design is really easy to mess up too ig Them changing their design itself is a big thing Idk what other design would really suit pulsars, cant think of much But yes i do agree that they need to focus a bit.

@@motorinc I have used a bs4 NS200, and I used to tour on it. I am 5'11 and the NS has a comfortable riding triangle for a slightly taller body frame. I used to over maintain it - Motul 7100 every 3500-4000 kms, and used to change the oil filter at every alternate oil drain. Now , why I had to sell it is, the rocker arms in the head developed side to side play. The rocker arm bearings had given out. This was really a surprise to me, because my 13 year old Unicorn still runs like a charm, no rattling sound from the engine at all. And all I have done is a basic oil change for that bike. So coming to my opinion - I would never suggest any of my friends to buy anything Bajaj, not because Bajaj makes bad motorcycles, but because what I feel is, Bajaj focuses so much on pricing that the quality is almost completely overlooked. I used to hate Royal Enfield for their pathetic quality and today I find myself scratching my head at how can Royal Enfield almost reach European levels of quality and equipment while Bajaj, which used to be miles ahead of RE, still lags behind so much. As a motorcycle, I feel my Interceptor is ligh years ahead of the NS 200 in terms of quality. I truly don't care about gimmicky features.

Reasons to buy pulsar NS 200 Over other bikes on this segment or this price range 1. Value for Money 2. Very powerful liquid cooled engine 3.comfortable for both rider and pillion 4.Now comes with Full digital instrument console, Duel channel abs and usd forks How it is better than it's competitors 1. MT-15 (uncomfortable pillion seat) 2. RTR 200 lacks 6th gear and powerful engine 3.Duke 200 very expensive 4. N250 lacks 6th Gear and Top end performance

When this bike was launched back in 2012 , I was in my 5th standard. I fell in love with it at first sight. And finally in 2023 I got my hands over my 1st motorbike, i.e. PULSAR NS200 BS6 PHASE 2 . It made me wait for more than a decade . But it was absolutely worth the wait. 😊😊😊😊

Just bought a ns200 in Feb 2024 and I am really loving it. The switch gear quality is not at par with n250's standard, but the thing is the engine is smooth , very powerful and engaging. Chasis behave so good on corners and front brakes are simply A+ standard. Exhaust is A+. My only complain is with that 130 rear tyre. Remember, anytime you compare ns with a duke, you cannot ignore the price.

I currently own a 2018 NS 200 ABS and I absolutely love riding my NS to the day but it needs a few changes- 1. Better Quality levels overall including Fit & Finish 2. ABS is too sensitive 3. Front forks are too soft & rear shock is a bit stiff (Doesn’t add up well) 4. Mirrors are a bit small 5. Rear seat feels like a slab of stone Eagerly looking forward to the NS400 as a potential upgrade

The NS200 represents nostalgia to me as I owned one and enjoyed it thoroughly for 7 years. The updates that the NS recieved should have arrived atleast 4 years ago and today, it should have been a KTM slayer but sadly it isn't. And that's why I am never going to buy a Bajaj ever again as they promised so much to the enthusiasts 12 years ago but they never delivered. Take that Bajaj. Now a days, even Hero is trying to rope in the enthusiasts so what is stopping them? It isn't like KTM and Triumph are their enthusiast alternative and Bajaj is for the commuters, no. We want Bajaj to occupy that place because they were that brand.

I love your videos because they speak to me, both as an automotive enthusiast and as someone who works in the industry. I watch all your videos, but I seldom leave a comment, and even if I do, it is technically motivated. I am typically uncomfortable displaying my emotional connection to cars and bikes on such public forums. Well, that all goes out of the window today because a 2014 Pulsar 200 NS was my one and only bike before I moved abroad. It was my daily ride, my early morning Sunday blast through the ghats, my tourer, and everything else. I put 40,000 km on it, and I absolutely loved every one of them. I miss this bike every time I think about it. The classic round tach, with the needle blipping through the whole rev range each time I turned the key is, with no hint of exaggeration, a core memory of my young adult years.

22:22 past these days on the way home I got to see a NS200 parked just outside the house front gate on the twisty section. Every time I approach this site I gradually slow down a bit more to take a good look at this motorcycle. When I see that bike my mind is like flashing with memories of NS200 one which my senior owned past from 2013 or 2012 itself. Which he used to share with me on different occasions And all it was about rides we enjoyed in that bike. That sound of the motor, rev meter that can clock 9 k, back lighted switches, chunky body and tyres... Everything was great to remember and still counting ...It was never a wrong turn to pick this machine if u want to play Street runs or to run out to the highway to match unbelievable experience and thrill of 200cc machine... For me it's like later on the addition of certain things made it a more potential machine of thrill and experience... As u said this motorcycle has a different audience in the market especially here in kerala... People who love machines over some features may find it right for their heart. Some machines own hearts of many and their value is marked in history as the greatest of all time.As NS200 is one of a kind. ❤

I have a Dominar 400 BS6 (Sorry Shumi), which I bought in 2020 for 2.35L On Road when I did not know much about how to assess and compare the handling and other aspects of a bike (Basically, not paper racing). Initially, I was about to get the RTR 200 4v, which was priced at 1.55L, and loved everything about the bike, but the power was not exciting enough (had already gotten used to the 150 - 200 cc segment). The reason for getting the Dominar 400 was the price-to-power ratio. I spent 85k to get 20ps more, test rode by opening the throttle on a straight and was sold. That being said, the shortcomings that I found after buying the bike, to date, are: - Poor fit and finish, vibration noise from the mask is a major issue, which still the Bajaj service is not able to resolve. - Unacceptable performance of Rear Brakes. - Long Wheelbase and the Weight. I know these are not actually an issue but are hindrances when riding the bike in the city, taking U-turns, or cornering at reasonable speeds. Do I regret buying the Dominar 400, 4 years ago? - Not really. For someone who wanted a Naked Bike for the City, which still has good power, torque, and is fun, this was a good proposition. With its flaws evident, it still was a good compromise given the budget constraints. To this day, I do enjoy the bike, especially in the city. The weight, vibrations (not the noise), and the heavy feeling handle during turns are no longer an issue; I have just adapted to using the weight instead of wrestling with it. Question to Shumi / MotorInc: All of my requirements are still the same, and I want a fun-to-ride bike in the City, does making a switch from Dominar 400 to the Duke 390 sound like a sensible Upgrade? Especially given the low resale of Dominar 400 and relatively higher price of 390.
@30harbakshsingh45
@30harbakshsingh45 5 ай бұрын
same query. I have my dominar since launch day and saw the new 390 as exciting and lightweight machine on crack. absolutely no resale value of dominar and the price of new 390 is a bit on the higher side. don’t want to get into used higher cc bikes at the new 390 price point
@motorinc
@motorinc 5 ай бұрын
Hello @himanshutanwani4924 and @30harbakshsingh45! We'd always remind you (see the regrets part) that you can get used to anything, the point is you shouldn't have to. 😊 Will the 390 be an upgrade? We believe it will! The Domi has slightly greater space in the seat area, the 390 might feel a little tighter, but that aside, the new Duke will feel better in every department, and we'd be surprised if you couldn't see the jump in price as a logical jump after a test ride! Get a test ride and let us know what you think?

This bike was designed by a person who was working with BMW Motorrad. Bajaj hired him to design the NS200 bike. The design still looks great..I feel Rajiv Bajaj feels he doesn't have the people in his team now that will take the NS200 to a next level...in terms of design it needs. Hence, he wants to stick with the design.😊

I own the first 200ns that came out back in 2012, and it is my daily go to bike. It's in an alright shape considering it's been ridden consistently for 12 years now. The instrument cluster doesn't work, but everything else is pretty much the same. The quality of the ride experience itself hasn't gone down. But it is dated, and when I saw this thumbnail and title, I though I might jump the gun and get it the next day. But Bajaj really needs to up the standards of how they themselves look at 200ns. It is not your model that just is, it's your current running legacy of a bike template, that demands so much more out of it's existence. Guess I'm sticking with my oldie for now. Thanks a lot Shumi and Karthik! Great conversation!

I remember a ad in a magazine hero Honda was launching the passion in a full page advertisement with a quote “Born in a studio” and few page later Pulsars full page ad “Born in a gym not in a studio” - that cracked me up. Loved the first generation pulsar I was drooling on the ads. The bike appeared raw with the huge tank for that generation. Loved the DTSI for the design after that I didn’t even keep track of the next versions.

NS200 is liquid cooled, while RTR200 is oil cooled. NS200 is more versatile for long hauls than RTR 200 since it manages the heat better. Oil cooling is just a marketing term for air cooled
@motorinc
@motorinc 5 ай бұрын
As Shumi says, equipment is what equipment does. In our experience neither of the two bikes have enough heat-related issues for the liquid cooling to be superior to the oil-cooling in daily use, even on long hauls. Technically, liquid-cooling _is_ superior to oil-cooling. But engineers will always prefer the less complex solution if it works. It's the marketing guys who will embellish the more complex solution as a feature.

So surely there is something great with NS 200, but it needs to be updated because there is surely the thing for that wolf design they go and that sound from the engine.

Cheap maintenance 5.Very sweet deal for that specs 6. No hiccups till now he did around 15k kms I request team motor inc to test the mileage of F250 and shed some light on it. A beautiful story told in this episode, It took me back to when I had the Pulsar 200 (oil-cooled) 18 bhp and it was a joy to ride. I could so associate it with seating position and the distinct sound. Honestly, I lost track of the Pulsars post the 220F it was just too many bikes that they did, I am expecting more from Bajaj especially since they have worked with Kawasaki, KTM, and now Triumph, there is so much potential and I do want to see Bajaj making that crazy ADV or a Scrambler bike. which will feed the enthusiasts with some meat. Kudos to the Motorinc team loved the puns on Ganz's

Great episode to watch with my Sunday morning breakfast! Here's an idea for the Bajaj line - Keep the lower capacities to the P - P125, P150. N160 is retired coz it's so close to the NS160. Keep only the N250. Dominar becomes an ADV platform as you perfectly put it (I personally know three friends who bought Dominars specifically to go touring, so it makes perfect sense). And we can have three differentiated Pulsars on the NS line. NS160 - More affordable sports naked. NS200 - A good sports naked and a proper competitor to the RTR 200 4V. And NS400 whoch sits at the top of the range. Also, as an aside, can we have something like the 600 vs 650 situation, in that the NS200 can be the racy sports type of bike that revs quite a lot and feels poised for handling and top end and we can have the N250 as the torquey easy going bike that isn't quite so top end focused and instead focused more on mid range grunt? Not sure how much effect that would have in the 200-250cc class but food for thought

The N series has very serious turning issues that aren’t prominent by at first. If you ride it by itself you might or might not get it, but if you ride any other nicely built bike, for example, Royal Enfield Hunter 350 for around 10 minutes and then switch into any Pulsar N model and then try to ride it, you’ll literally feel the handle trying to move away from the direction you wanna go to.

Rode the hunter for about 20 to 30 minutes. After reaching the spot we usually hang out at, the other dude decided to give the hunter a go and told me to switch with him. Me, not having ridden an N160 before I jumped at the chance. I own a N250 Dual channel version and from 8k kms onwards the bike has been giving me really bad 'missing' issues, has random missfires, throtle lag, and somewhere in between it also had an issue with a capacitor due to which battery wasn't charging..... and this is not JUST my bike, multiple of other owners also have faced similar issues! My question here is, we look at Bajaj Pulsars as a great value proposition but for this value are they sacrificing on the Quality control front as well nowadays? I have suffered so much that any bike which has any relation to Bajaj, am hesitant to even look at it due to these sort of issues. Please do raise this concerns to the Bajaj reps that you guys meet🥲. My first bike was a 2012 Bajaj 200NS in red. Great memories. After a while on the seat, I distinctly remember it causing a lot of discomfort. And one time, since it did not have ABS, I fell because my rear wheel locked up and I could not control the skid any longer. It looked absolutely bonkers, so aggressive, sounded like a Pulsar on steroids and honestly it looked even better than the Duke 200. Bajaj QC was shit and I had to get the battery changed in the first 6 months because it was pretty much dead, switch gear was cheap af, I still remember the button under the dash, what a cheap button that was, it was like an inflated piece of rubber with no clickiness. I sold it after 3 years because I had to go abroad and took it around for a short ride before the airport taxi arrived, think my 200NS was the only thing I was a little sad about in the overall excitement of a new beginning.

Hello @motorinc fam! I'm back on the comments!! Glad to be here once again! Pulsar has started to feel like a van gogh painting in the middle of a modern art studio. It has it's own fantastic characteristics but there's just so much more that the rivals offer that for new buyers, which are primarily going to be modern, tech-savvy youngsters, that the pulsar just doesn't appeal to that target audience that it was intended for. I remember checking out the NS125 when I was planning to buy my first motorcycle a year ago, and it just didn't appeal to me, primarily because I had seen the NS series on the road for so long, I didn't want to appear "stuck with the old-school" bike, which is why I ended up buying the TVS Raider, which was a more modern, approachable, and more rewarding motorcycle in terms of novelty. Also, the Dominar as a platform has always been advertised to be a motorcycle where you just throw on your luggage and go see the world. Unfortunately it doesn't live up to it's own claims and is just a bit underwhelming, and this is coming from a guy who has not even ridden it. What surprises me is that Bajaj has now worked with so many fantastic overseas motorcycles, and yet chooses to neglect their own products that could turn the market upside down if done right. Bajaj seems to be running the theory of "if it works, don't touch it", which I feel is now making it's products run more on existing reputation than fresh appeal. A new dad will recommend his child a pulsar because he remembers the bike's reliability, but I doubt a younster would choose a pulsar all on their own. Also, I loved the outtakes, Shumi fumbling words and Kartik's jacket story! Eagerly waiting for your views on the 250, and the launch of the 400, hoping it's a breath of fresh air for Bajaj! Love and cheers, CB

Welcome back Chaitanya! Where've you been? All well? Such a great point! The no-broken-no-fix strategy works when the rest of the world is moving slowly but when the rivals speed up, the NBNF guys just look slow and the products as a result old-school! So true!

First of all, let me help Shumi sir here with the Pulsar lineup N series: 150, 160, 250 NS series: 125, 160, 200 RS series: 200 P series: 150 (which they retired) F series: 250 & there are the regular Pulsar 125, 150. I remember when the NS 200 first came out, we were all awe-stuck looking at the styling & the performance of the bike that Bajaj didn't even bother to update it properly till the USD forks updates. The Apache on the other hand is way to complicated filled with gimicks like riding modes, BT connectivity etc. The Pulsar from day one was built to excite the rider with so much character built into it, whereas the Apache even with so many updates till now doesn't even come close to the feeling you get when riding the NS. I loved how simple the Pulsars were that it didn't have all the BS like the BT connectivity & the gimicks. I honestly loved the Taco meter with the needle rising up as you revved up the bike, but sadly not anymore. If the NS200 is this exciting & filled with so much character, I'm affraid that they don't put the Speed 400 engine in the NS400 & ruin the whole riding experience coz as discussed here, the Speed 400 has an achilles heel that it doesn't liked to be revved, which is the one thing the NS Pulsar loved to do.

I did have Pulsar 150 UG3, handed down from my older brother. It was a gem. I did still prefer UG2 over UG3, mostly as it was just digitalized and that meant added cost for spares. In other aspects, UG3 was identical to UG2. Unfortunately, I decided to get in time and upgraded to RTR 2004V back in 2022. My first pick was NS 200. I REALLY, REALLY wanted it so bad. The only downside was not having dual channel ABS. I do understand the concept of a whole package but not having the bluetooth connected tech, adjustable front suspension, adjustable levers were not the NEED, if available, well and good, if not, not a deal breaker. But dual channel ABS was a priority, specially when upgrading fron 15 odd hp to 24 and also the need of hour. I was so disappointed in Bajaj, and still is. The dual channel model was available for international markets but not here in it's own turf. NS 200 is one of the only true motorcycle that has it's roots when Bajaj made some incredibly well machines. Anyhow, long story short. Ended with RTR 2004v and Bajaj launched the dual channel version within the next quarter. RTR 200 4V is a very well made package but for me, got the worst of it. My RTR has a list of issues and list of parts replaced under warranty but the issues are still plagued. To give a jist of it, Parts replaced under warranty are : Headlight. Speedometer. Front alloy wheel. Cone Set. Right switch gear. Rocker arms. Cams ( both intake and exhaust ). Starter Motor. Starter Relay. Gear Position Sensor ( 7 times ) Front Caliper. These are major ones apart from some odds ones. Going to consumer court for replacement motorcycle. I still believe RTR 200 4V to be a really good motorcycle, just got the worst made.

I think Bajaj is still focused on keeping the spare parts costs low so that the new bike parts go along with the old bike market which is still very much alive. It still rides really sweet despite being a decade old though I also ride an interceptor. This one allows me to still play on the road much more than on an Interceptor. Bajaj does not have a market flagship I agree.

We'd rather you compared the specs _after_ you test rode both. Seeing the spec first will _always_ disrupt what your heart and mind will tell you about what you prefer.

Why I'm feeling more connected with the 50 year old riding the bike being 30 than the 30 year old riding the bike. But one thing I'm clear over the year. Boarder line if these guys say get this car/bike get it with the conscious that it well researched.

Bajaj needs to do what it did back in 2012. So far they've been doing that quite literally by giving us the same bike. They have to bring the same wave and impact as they did but by 2024 standards for new motorcyclists. The NS was my poster bike back in 2012 but I simply didn't get it in 2022 for the sole reason of not wanting a 10 year old bike. Would've loved to have a rev happy pulsar such as that as my first bike if i had a choice. Also, why did Brazil "need" the USD? The fact that it was done because some other country "needed" it and thats why we got it rather than lets take updating this relic seriously only hurt further. Your videos always put a smile on my face, enjoyed this :)

I loved your description of NS200! I was not sure you'll review it after as it is so old, but this was a pleasant surprise! I own an AS200 from 2015, and it has covered only 19000+ km as I lived abroad for several years. I am tempted to go for the new N250 because it sounds so much effortless and higher quality. However, I feel it lacks the wow factor of my Pulsar. My AS200 requires frequent gear changes in city, not the most refined and is beginning to show its age (parts replacement and all). But it is great on highways, I get that rush past 5000 rpm and I still love its looks after all these years. I feel I should hold on to that and wait for a Duke 250, which would be a proper upgrade rather than the N250.

Excellently summarized! It's a 10/10 experience every time hearing you guys about bikes that are crucial to our ever-evolving motorcycling scene. I think a significant challenge facing the Bajaj brand presently pertains to its convoluted product portfolio. Optimal brand positioning could have been achieved through a refined and exclusive lineup strategy, focusing on enhancing the riding experience through the systematic introduction of innovative technologies across successive iterations of flagship models such as the NS and RS. This strategic approach would likely have solidified the NS model as a preeminent choice within its market segment. P, N, NS, regular Pulsars, there's too much going on there. "What replaces what" is something even they haven't figured it out. Retiring a product saying the newer lineup will replace it, and then resurrecting it, though as a sales-focused brand, makes sense, but for a brand that aims to capitalize on the experiences of a motorcycling enthusiast like us, it simply won't do. If 220 was to be replaced, replace it with F250, no need for N, make the quality improvements on existing NS like what you introduced to the world with N, and let it breathe in the air of strong recall value. And it will indeed do good. Keep it sorted. This "if it ain't broke, dont fix it" way of operations won't work for long in this adaptible market. It might help generate quick sales, but as a brand, you will lose the base, and that is not good.

Beautifully put, Vaibhav! We'd go further. Customers can be consumers of a product range, but the job of curating their choices and experience must remain something that the creator has to be actively engaged in. When you focus on allowing choices to be guided by market forces, you are automatically behind the movement, as it were. Thanks for reminding us of this simple tenet!
