Although i still enjoy these 2 going about trying to give us all the information, i think there is a bit of disconnect with what the positioning of the bike / target audience is. While the new R15 is great, the riding position is too committed and now I'd like a more powerful bike. The CB300R is beautiful but feels too small, Speed 400, same thing, Scrambler 400X is great and probably the one that I've loved the most so far but the vibes beyond 6k RPM bothers me. I completely agree with Shumi's assessment of this character of the Triumph twins, it's so effortless below 6k but turns into a totally different motorcycle post 6k. Long stroke engines are too 'boring', maybe I'll like them in the future, one day. The Duke 390 is too manic, too aggressive. The Aprilia RS457 is lovely, but the riding position is still too committed. Maybe the Tuono if and when it comes would be the one for me? Time will tell. With the NS400, I probably expected more. I loved riding the BS4 NS200, a bigger more sophisticated version of the same with 90% of Triumph levels of quality was maybe too much to expect at this price point. 2 years in and the search continues. Maybe I'm just too picky 🤷🏻!

This was the most interesting 'First' ive watched. I feel like ive been short changed yet i dont feel cheated. I think Bajaj are on to something here. Theek hai, it doesnt behave like a Duke, and is much more mellow, buy theree no replacement for displacement and this really has democracised the power of that engine/displacement. And i really appreciate that. I understand that this seems like Bajaj is doing the Kawasaki thing, and showing a 'Ninja300' down the ignorant Indian consumer's throat, mut maybe theyre really onto something. I think Kawasaki would also do well to price their 300 lower, and form a new segment of sorts, where they compete with the Pulsar 400, Honda 300, Duke 250 ranges(including the race/adventure versions of these platforms if and when they come).
@motorinc6 ай бұрын
Hi @leakedzebra! Thanks for your take but Shumi believes that the Ninja 300 shouldn't even exist. It's a >10 year old motorcycle at this point. As for NS400Z, as they say, it definitely does have the potential to be a good bike but we're gonna have to see where they take it.

Man, what a clear statement "Think of it as a powerful 250 rather than a weak 400". I think it was a very strong perception that the market had about this product, which it is perhaps but only when we get the price in the talks, which is not what a product should be at the end of the day, as "We don't ride value for money home". The product might end up doing great in sales and it could be great for those who really want the 400 tag today when a sporty 150cc comes around the same price. Great breakdown of the product, amazing insights of why the price is so well managed, and a clear perspective of what a customer should expect from this Bajaj. Also I do feel that Bajaj really needs to go all out with atleast one product in their lineup, with max performance and give it the best equipment, but again there is KTM for that and for a better feeling Bajaj we have the Triumph. All this is making Pulsar a commuter brand now rather than an enthusiasts choice. Another great Motorinc First, It's always great watching both of you. Also, Shumi having the MotorInc logo as his watch face is great!

@@bhanupatil6034 Honestly the variance in quality levels.... The bikes I tested had quality levels that varied tremendously the first one had way sharper brakes that felt really uncomfortable to ride with but had a better suspension set up but had vibration the entire rpm band while the 2nd one had much better brakes but much harsher suspension set up alongside vibration at lower Rpm levels which got better at higher gears..... Another reason is my father already own a retro bike in the honda h'ness 350 so i wanted something different and always had an eye for advs so the V strom it was tho the mavrick is a very low end torque machine which feels much lighter than it is so it might be a good purchase but i will say wait till October atleast if u plan to buy it cause right now I can't say I trust the quality levels. Cheers have a great day.

I think I need to step on here and make things easy for others. I was planning to get a NS 200. I have good experience with many 150 cc and RE Classic 350/ Thunderbird. But my budget was that of the NS 200. Maintenance, mileage everything was just perfect for me. What I didn't like was the old design, lack of modern features like USD, etc. I wanted a mix of performance for daily office runs and something that could do 4-5 long tours every year comfortably without feeling boring. The NS 200 was the only thing that justified my needs. Now the NS 400 gave me much more power, features, freshness. Of course it's not not at all at par with other 400 cc bikes. But as an entry level 400, nothing matches it. So comparing it with the latest 390 Duke makes no sense. As Shumi mentioned, it performs like a really great 250 cc. And that's it. The mileage, performance, Maintenance, everything explains the price. And honestly, if bajaj made this bike with the current or last gen duke engine, gave it all the awesome quality stuff, the price would have gone up drastically and no one would buy a 3 lakh plus inr Pulsar. It's the perfect upgrade from 200 cc bikes and towards more premium high capacity bikes. If you are looking for raw ktm or ninja performance, don't go for the Ns 400. But plz don't compare as well. Makes no sense at all.

Last standout pulsar was RS200. After that, Pulsars became less of a enthusiast bike and more of a money making machine for Bajaj. I really don't understand why Bajaj is killing this Pulsar brand in the name of low price. Is it to protect KTM sales? Is it due to KTM pressure? What is Bajaj really afraid of when it comes to launching a true Pulsar? I own NS200, and I feel lucky to have one of NS200 or RS200, because these were the last Pulsars which Bajaj made with passion for biking. It hurts to see my favourite Pulsar brand's downfall like this

A question. NS 400z vibration's kicks in from 3.5 thousand rpm. It's not uncomfortable but you can't unnotice it. The same goes with Guerrilla. I found the triumph speed triple with the same vibration pattern though less intense. Based on your experience out of these three, which one you would recommend. I come from NS 200 so all these bikes are upgrade for me. The reason for this question is i like all three equally and can't decide on one

Bajaj, at its core lineup of Pulsars especially, has positioned itself as the Zudio of motorcycles, ubiquitous and accessible to all, offering a taste of contemporary & bridge fashion to all, on two wheels. That's very good n all from a PnL & cx footfall perspective it keeps their bottom line revenue stable and flowing which allows them to reinvent, innovate and also push for premium/niche segments as well (KTM/Triumph) and strategically it makes 100% sense. And even though its not like they are losing their own identity but it surely is getting affected and hence, innovation, reinvention, etc. happens at the topline for Bajaj (evidently - KTM) Is the intent with the bike good? Atleast from where I stand - yes. Why? 1) Bajaj is enabling access to powerful and competent motorcycle for the masses who are eager and energetic to reach it. 2) By making the NS400Z a bit mellow they made sure that people look at this as a option in this price range as with a similar demeanor but a more capable motorcycle which would win the spec sheet battle for sure (for some people - which gives footfall - which gives revenue) 3) This gives Bajaj more latitude to explore and introduce variants which again will target the masses and keep the interests high. And Pulsars always were the Thrill for the masses. And Bajaj with their Triumph and KTM's are just doing that along with Pulsars and Dominars. 4) The pricing, feature set and part's sharing clearly suggests that it is meant and made to be a access enabler for the masses. So from a PnL, Strategy and Marketing perspective - everything is nice! The problem: 1) Lacking identity, being distinguishable or aspirational. 2) Lacking the zeal and zest of what the Pulsars initially were and even more so compared to the NS200 and/or KTM's 3) This "PnL" oriented strategy if not done right ... can result in a decline over the years in interest and aspiration - its already showing as except the NS200 (so far).. gone are the times when people discussed or got excited about Pulsars. (THEY DON'T EVEN FEATURE IN THE YT DRAG RACING COMMUNITY ANYMORE 🥲😜) But atleast, Bajaj has a solid topline to keep this going. KTM and now Triumph.
@motorinc6 ай бұрын
May be true @adrishmajumder9878 but those vehicles will be looked at as KTM and Triumph vehicles, not Bajaj's own. So, it's imperative that Bajaj realizes that and streamlines their offerings.
@jackmadaima46816 ай бұрын
Ktm and triumph are ktm and triumph, they are not Bajaj, simply building sub 400 cc engines for their bikes don't mean ktm and triumph are Bajaj bikes, CF moto makes ktm's engines, don't mean people look at those bikes as CF moto. Aside from affordable commuters, Bajaj needs to make a good premium bike that looks premium. Look at CF moto, in recent years they have made a name for themselves in the western motorcycle market.

It should feel like using an apple smartphone ( simple and easy to adapt ) rather than an android full of bloatware and ads. 3. Both of them should mention the routes they took on videos. Just got my test rides on the N250 and NS200 yesterday. Decently long test rides. Rode them on the same road. High traffic. Empty private road 1km section with sharp corners. My opinion - These are both potent bikes. Loved the engines❤❤ Both of them. Different feeling to each other. But amazing ❤ I liked the chasis on the NS200 more than the N250 But the wider tyres makes the behaviour of the bike while applying the brakes on the N250 very stable and controlled while the NS200 seems to get upset if you apply the brakes too hard. It might be lack of skill from my side this being my first purchase. But even though the engine and chasis on the ns is better than the n. The lack of confidence on the brakes on the ns makes me actually ride the n harder than the n. What do you guys think?

And it's so hard to choose in this new market for me without the help of someone who knows deeply about motorcycles. It will be my first motorcycle in my life, and your videos help me a lot to make my choice. Planning to buy probably in August. In other countries people buy bikes just as an extra vehicle or just for fun, but in India I can really see that motorcycles have a special place in the heart of Indians, because it meets a practical need but also a passion. I even watch your videos just for the pleasure now just to learn more about motorcycles, and I became passionate too 😊 Thank you for your passion and hard work and for bringing this content for people who lives in India in a language that I can understand better ❤

For perspectives, I am riding a 160cc Apache RTR for 10K KMs and frequently riding NS200s, KTM390s, R15s borrowed from friends. Verdict: Vibrations are an issues, yes, something I could immediately feel right from starting the bike but I believe the front brakes are a huge safety concern. I mean I have fitted ceramic front brake pads in my RTR160 and when compared to that, NS400 brakes are downright unsafe for a 40bhp bike, I believe. And this bike should not be going to the less experienced people, they will run into trouble.

Couple of points. 1. The pricing difference between the Duke390 and NS400Z clearly indicates the cost that goes into engineering something exciting. 2. This is a magic of BOM sharing resulting in a super cheap 400cc bike. 3. As you have mentioned towards the end regarding the supply chain guy taking decisions, made me think on DFx elements that are given so much importance in engineering a product like design for manufacturing/assy etc. There is something called as DFSC - Design for supply chain; seems like this bike is great example of over-optimization for DFSC. I partially agree and partially disagree with shumi on the VFM factor. You absolutely shouldn't buy the NS400Z just because it has alot of features and power for the price. But at the same time. It isn't necessary a bad bike as shumi himself said he had fun on the ride. Let's say I have a budget of 2.5L on road price. I won't blindly buy it over a duke 200 just because it is 40bhp(where I agree with shumi) But. That doesn't mean it that it won't be a good bike. In my budget between other 200-250cc motorcycles, this 400 can be slot in and post this you can test ride it and certain characteristics a 40 bhp thing inherantly brings to the table might be something I(or anyone else) want from my bike. VFM doesn't mean the bike is good. I agree. But it also doesn't mean the bike is bad. It's a personal choice and what Bajaj has done with the NS400Z is definitely worth a consideration and test ride. What the VFM does is not that it gives me a brilliant or a bad bike. But gives me the ability to consider a bike from a segment above which I never would have because of a budget constraint. Doesn't mean I buy it. But it does give me an additional option
@motorinc5 ай бұрын
As Shumi has said in the video @sahilhakani, he believes that something being value for money shouldn't be the main reason why you buy one. If you have other reasons to consider it already and the VFM factor sweetens the deal further, go ahead. That's all!😊

Hi, could u guys give a good comparison of old ns200 and new ns400. Which is better at sporty? Which one is more stunt/fun oriented. Economy and riding experience ? value 5 years down the line. If ns400 is of no good, is a second hand ns200 a better alternative to use and throw in 3-5 years till hydrogen ice comes maybe!

The engine mapping is because of the ecu . I dont know whether the ecu of a bike can be swaped to another. Inn case we can swap then, we can swap it with the duke 390 . So can we have a very aggressive ns400z??

So what would be a better proposition N250 or NS400Z, in terms comfortable ride and value for money?

The biggest education I've received from Schumi is "Price and VFM vanishes the moment you leave the showroom" And I knew I'd truly learnt when I was not excited just by the pricing of this bike. Not that I don't appreciate the pricing and democratization of the enthusiasts space.

Shumi sir, I currently own a 2018 NS 200. Do you think that the excitement and rush factor is almost similar in both the NS 200 and the 400Z? Or is differentiable enough for one to buy the 400Z?

Bajaj bikes are VFM, bang on bucks, easy to maintain and great fun to ride. Being a Dominar owner for past 4 years, I can vouch for it. The bike has its disadvantages, but it's a great tourer and has never failed, even once. Would love to know, what happens with Dominar series next?

Is it beginner friendly to drive ns 400z and consider it as a first bike to buy?

Triumph Speed 400 should have been Pulsar 400. Its silhouette looks exactly like the first generation Pulsar 150 with round headlights. Maybe we'll get it 12 years from now at Triumph's current price!

What is the difference between a naked bike and a faired bike? I mean, which bike should I buy for a daily commute and for long rides, mountain rides? For example, if you compare the Pulsar SS 200 and NS 400, which one should I buy: faired or naked?

By looking at the cylinder head in videos it seems like bajaj ditched the 3 spark plug setup of dominar and went for a single one. Headlight DRLs look hideous but that N250 projector is actually usable in night, better than stock headlight of all other bikes in the segment. Better tyre alternatives for this bike (stock tyre size) - Michelin pilot street radial, Tvs protorq extreme (yes they have it in 140 size), Metzeler m5 (came with bs4 Yamaha R3), Pirelli Rosso 2 (overkill, but why not).

I've been watching and enjoying MotorInc since day one. And Shumi since Powerdrift days. I've learned a ton and do appreciate the knowledge in these videos. But I feel Shumi's absolute blind hate for the Dominar sometimes goes too far. I've personally ridden RE bikes (older and modern) and I hate them to the core. But even I can atleast pick 1-2 things that those bikes do well. Or atleast see where the appeal lies for certain people. The moment Shumi simply starts hating on the Dominar, it feels like the entire conversation becomes coloured and biased because of it. One core point I feel is missed here is that the Pulsar 400 is not for anyone considering a Duke 390 or a Husqvarna. It's for the guy looking at the NS 200 who wanted something bigger. In that context, I feel some of the criticism goes a bit too far. For those people the NS 400 is a taste of a bigger bike. It'll fuel their passion to new heights. All this is just my opinion. I mean no offense to Shumi. I only mention it because to me MotorInc First is the finest KZbin video series on automobiles and I just hope maybe this POV can help reevaluate certain aspects. But still a great video overall as always. Cheers guys🥂

Thanks for sharing your perspective @bhargavsharma9241, we see your point, but just like how your don't like any of the RE bikes, Shumi just doesn't like the Dominar for what it is. Because, different people can have different experience like you said.
@Phoenixrider92416 ай бұрын
@@motorinc I get Shumi hating the Dominar. I'm not talking about him having an opinion. I'm just saying when he starts out a conversation where he just makes it out to be the worst bike ever, then any further mentions of the bike, or any of it's elements are automatically disregard aswell. Even in my hate for REs I can still see that they do a few things well. And I can see how a particular segment of the population may prefer it. On the other hand Shumi seems to believe that there isn't a single redeeming feature on the Dominar, it isn't suited to anyone and there isn't any scenario where it would do well. That was my only point of concern. I don't write this to defend the Dominar. It's just the only bike that Shumi has spoken so vehemently against. No bike is completely garbage in every respect these days. I only feel that the reviews could be more objective, if some of the possible good aspects were explored aswell.

Nice video. According to you, which is THE most fun to ride bike in the city? The best handling bike as of August 2024

I don’t need a super aggressive bike, so that’s not a problem but I am confused between speed 400 and ns400z . I am eager to know your opinion on this. Thanks in advance.

Not everything depends on ui/ux opinions. Specially in india and especially in vehicle screens. There are multiple considerations from tech marketing business etc etc. Maybe some were ux issue like close throttle. But the shortcut to menu issue is 100% tech and the dot matrix and blue light were 100% business. And not to mention there is always someone from management who will say “just do what i say”
