When do you go thunderous roar over spear?

i was really confused while watching the addon that shows your abilities being used because the only offensive abilities its showing is your big cooldowns like thunderous roar and war breaker but its not showing things like over power so i thought you were only mortal striking the entire time. I dont know if this is intentional but i was very confused on how you were only mostly using mortal strike but its the addon not showing other abilities.
