Great review. I saved money and bought a soft roll up tonneau cover. It never aligned right and always felt my items weren't as secure as they could be with a hard cover. Eventually the soft cover ripped and I looked for a replacement. Saw your video and decided to spend the money and pick up a BAKFlip MX4 three weeks ago. Should of done this from the beginning. The functionality of the cover is so much easier to fold up than my old one. Made in the USA! is a huge plus. 5 year warranty. Great Customer Service. If you're thinking about getting a cover....this is the one.

I just installed a new MX4 cover on my 22 F350 8ftbed. My cover had latches on all 4 panels. Installed in about an hour and works great. Almost no leaks aftar a 1" rain.

Great video, thank you! I considered the roll up one until I read lots of reviews about the roll ups coming apart over time. I’m going to go get this model for my truck today; ordered it last week. One more thing; you can flip it up all the way to cover the rear window if you ever need to do any “sketchy” recoveries of other vehicles maybe when you don’t necessarily trust the rigging or just for a little better peace of mind about a piece of random hitch flying through the air through your back window. It’s happened before for sure.

I Did a * like * on this video lots of comfort information, I just bought mine today and getting it installed tomorrow. I think you're right I read somewhere it holds up to 400 pounds of weight on top, I don't think I'll be getting on top but it's good to know incase I'm going to strap something on top and don't want to open it up to use the bed. Thanks for the video, I was dismissing the folding covers because I tow goosenecks and didn’t want the back window covered while towing. I didn’t like the idea of buying a plastic roll up for longevity and loosening the front part of my bed. Just order this one and going to give it a shot. Might also try the bakbox to put straps and hitches in when not in use

I really enjoyed this video, I do have a suggestion for a fix on that second to the last panel, there are wood working clamps that could be attached to the bottom of that panel that could keep it from doing that in the cross wind.

I would agree. Only time I have had trouble with any cover is going thru Wyoming and 40 mph crosswinds. I usually take some gorilla tape and snug the loose areas.

Top prevent scratching, I recommend checking out the BAK FLIP Fibermax cover. It has Fiberglass covering the aluminum.

Thanks. I havent decided which one to get for my Jeep Gladiator. I have always wondered how much weight I could set on the top. I also have lights, cameras on my property, and I would rather use a platform like this than a step ladder on soft ground.

@@cwohughes Yes! I've put it through its paces over the months and it still stands up. Not water-proof. But, very water-resistant. Seems solid against theft although I have not had any theft attempts. It does keep eyes off your cargo. Go Buy and easy to install with 2 people.

Thank you for the long term review! I have a BAK Revolver on my old truck--it has been great and I agree the customer service from BAK is excellent. They replaced my bed cover because a friend rolled mine and damaged it to where it wouldnt lay flat anymore--BAK replaced it after just a couple questions and I had the replacement less than a week later. My only complaint against the Revolver is I live in Canada where we get a lot of snow, sometimes rain and then freezing temperatures and this makes it nearly impossible to roll the cover up--it must thaw out first. So my new truck is going to get either the BAK MX4 or F1 cover--but I am definitely staying with BAK because their product and customer service are both excellent!

I've had mine for three years. I really do like it, but it's not been perfect. My weatherstripping pieces wore out pretty quick, and the rubber bumpers on the underside that act as cushions (between the segments) have left indentations on the outer surface. Overall, it's been pretty good.

Great update. I've been considering one of these for my 2019 L5P, but the only thing I'm not wild about is when folded up against the cab, it complete blocks the view. As such, I've been considering the X4S, which is a rolling hard cover. Haven't yet pulled the trigger on it. Maybe for a Memorial Day sale.

I have a 2 year old top of the line hard top Bak Flip tonneau cover . Had a small hail storm and this cover was dented badly! I tried to warranty this with Bak flip they said nope it was a act of god and cannot replace . So buyers beware these tops are not as durable for the price it commands.

I installed the Ford version of this cover about a week ago. An hour later we got a really bad hail storm for an hour or two. I could hear the pounding against the roof of my home and windows. Like someone was throwing eggs. I felt the devil was against me. The next day I went to check the damage on the truck and it had zero dents. Not even a nick. Get the Ford version. All panels snap shut on my 8 ft bed. The newer MX4s may have addressed these problems as well.

First, a question and then my experience with the MX4. What do you have on top of your B&W 5th Wheel hitch top plate? It looks like a red protective cover. Ok, on to my experience...My experience hasn't been as good as yours. My MX4 cover was bought and installed in August 2020, so about 2 1/2 years old. I parked under a tree and chestnuts fell and dented the cover in several places. That's just a cosmetic issue but you would think it could handle a nut dropping 15 feet. I also had to buy a Buckle Strap Top Side Replacement Kit after one year because they wouldn't honor the warranty when one of the plastic clips broke that you use to secure the cover down when opened and the rubber bumpers that stick on to protect the cover from itself when folded won't stay. Still a good cover but they don't stand behind them. At least they didn't with me.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. I appriciate you taking the time to leave your experience and in a courteous and helpful manner. The pink lube plate was on the fifth wheel when i bought it. I've got so many questions about it and have tried to find a replacement with no luck. It has held up good but no idea where to get that one

@@CFarmer If you ever find something similar, please let me know. My 5th Wheel has the Reese Airborne Sidewinder king pin. It pivots 22" further back so it doesn't turn on the hitch itself. It utilizes a wedge to keep it stationary I can't use a standard lube plate because of the wedge so I use grease to lube the top plate as well as the underside of the king pin area. I'd like to get away from having to use grease!

The MX4 is an aluminum cover and aluminum is a soft metal so yes acorns falling on the cover will cause small dents. BAKFlip states that the MX4 being aluminum will gets small dents from hail and other falling objects. If you need a cover that protects against hail and other falling objects then the F1 cover is composite fiberglass but if you don't keep the panels maintained with a good quality wax they are known to soak water into the panels making the panels heavier. I have owned three MX4 covers and have a forth MX4 on order for my new Tacoma and the other three have been trouble free.

This is very helpful. I wouldn't have even considered hail damage and small falling objects making dents. My cover on my last truck was a Diamondback. Indestructible. I haven't bought that one again because I need access for a fifth wheel.

I got a switch blade cover and 3 aluminum blades fell off and I cannot close all the way. Not very happy with my cover. Shopping for a better quality cover now.

Texas folks... has anyone had th MX4 long-term..say.. 2-3 years or more? I've had two Bakflip Revolvers, my neighbor has had two, and my brother in law has had one. On every single one, after 2-3 years in the Texas sun, the vinyl starts shrinking and failing around the edges. I'm thinking going with an MX4 if they don't have that problem in Texas.
