I had a blast at this bakery!! I never really realized how much went into the machinery these guys have to maintain. Andres was so genuine and down to Earth - I can’t thank him enough. His tool setup was perfect for the work he does, and he has invested in his tools wisely. His mobile setups were very cool and different to see as well. Thank you so much for the tour Andres! I am not sure about better pay as scales are different. Automotive usually get paid by labor hour, this guy gets paid by the clock. I can make way more money doing the same reparative things being automotive mechanic because specialty tools and manuals are readily available. This guy has to deal with some of the equipment made in 1940s, hand drawn prints, in house made specialty tools and parts. So labor hour, would absolutely obliterate your pay.

I work as maintenance mechanic now and welder / fabricator in the same industry. Pay is usually based on experience, but I make more than I would at a dealership as a flat rate mechanic because of experience.
@VictorGalayda
@VictorGalayda 3 ай бұрын
@@sydneykillian3685 that would be my pay as a mechanic. Sometimes it takes months to commission equipment. Have to make prints for the parts you need, find a shop to fabricate them, and approve the budget. Also in the food industry got to make sure all materials have FDA certification because not many people like to eat poison. Can't count how many times the 12 hour project turned into 3 weeks of running around. If I was on labor hour, I probably would make 1/4 of what I am making now. In contrast, when I was working as an automotive tech, I was logging 14-16 hours in an 8 hour shift. The big upside of being a bakery mechanic is the job security. Equipment runs hard and people are not going to quit eating any time soon.

Man! Im addicted to these tours. Im a professional studio musician for over 12 year. the past 6 months my car started having issues. after a couple grand in repairs, i became fed up with paying dealerships. I started teaching myself and looking for tools. Ive been buying big old boxes, full of tools every week. keeping what i need and parting out what i don't. basically getting the tools for free. Ive built such an amazing tool catalog over the past few months, mostly old snap on. Ive learned so much from these videos. I watch each one multiple times to see whats working, whats not, whats desirable, whats consistent in everyones box. Ive ended up building such good relationships with mechanics in town hooking them up with tools for killer prices. from car mechanics, diesel techs, plumbers, electricians, builders. just everyone and in-between. I wanted to say thank you for these tours. they are Gold. The diversity of all these boxes are amazing! Keep it up. Big fan of your work.

Great tool box tour! I'm in the same industry and it's really rewarding because its never a dull day. Its a great career if you're willing to learn the old timers ways. Diagnostics are 100% done by experience. No fancy computers are going to tell you how to fix the issue especially if you're a welder / fabricator. Not just any welder that has gone to school can do the job because every weld and fabrication project is different with a decent amount of engineering that goes behind it. Overwelding is a huge issue I deal with everyday because motor mounts and fixtures that are too stiff cause extra wear on bearings and wear out the motors and equipment faster than mounts that have a certain amount of flex to them
@VictorGalayda
@VictorGalayda 3 ай бұрын
Flex couplers or a chain drive between the motor and whatever you drive helps a lot but brings more points to maintain. Also bearings with double set screws never run centered. Lately everything I built with small motors like 56 frame just gets a hollow shaft gearbox and a torque arm, because welding upside down 50ft above ground sucks.
@joemad4110

I totally agree with you. I prefab a lot of different parts and then install them while we have a shutdown period, which is usually to change a temporary fix into a permanent fix. @@VictorGalayda

Its funny the difference between factory work and auto work boxes. I work in a factory also and am one of the few with a lot of snapon, wright and other higher end tools. Most everyone has cheap stuff just because the amount of people in a factory stuff tends to walk off or not come back if your not diligent about getting them back. Most the guys think I'm crazy having them at work instead of home, but I use my stuff more at work and like to use the stuff I've paid good money for. Also we have a lot of shared tools for the big stuff and power tools, though Ive bought most my own. There is nothing more annoying than needing something specific and its dissapeared into someone else's tool box for 2 months...

When it comes to power tools, it’s too much work to find deals and not get scammed. Who knows what it’s been through or if it fell in a bucket or got rained on. I always buy new and maintain my stuff so it lasts. Power tools need greased every so often to keep them from wearing out. You can cut the label it’s against the law for manufacturers to void warranty. The batteries should never be left discharged or left on the charger for days at a time. It’s also better to use a small slow charger than the bigger fast chargers. Those rubber protective covers are ok but make sure it doesn’t cover the openings so the motor can stay cool. These are just some tips I learned along the way.
