Just a supposition but I think that if you just create a shatter and pre-compose it, just add some glow, use colours A and B and play with the settings to put the glow only on the edges. I think it could work ;)

You can do them with element3D. You will need the "motion design" pack in element. You choose one of the "broken glass" in the pack. You apply the texture you want to. You clik on OK. Then you will have the glass (in the AE comp.) who isn't broken. To "broke" it you go to "particle look", "displace XYZ" set the shatter up and the displace X displace Y and displace Z up as well ! And it should be good .You can motion track them if you want (SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH BUT I'M FRENCH )

Doing this in external plugins such as Element actually is not quite that difficult, you have to import a model and displace and scatter it into multiple pieces there are a few detailed tutorials about this. You can manipulate the models if you input a few simple values into the effects tab.

google tap for beats, its a free bpm counter. just tap a button on your keyboard to the beat of the song and it tells you the bpm, oh and btw Firepower is at roughly 140 bpm, similar to many dnb and dubstep songs :) hope this helped

Is there anyway to do this with the Effects that already come with AE CS6? $400 is a little steep just to do this neat water trick. Otherwise I wouldn't have any need for this, given all of the other software I have. I don't want to steal software to get this feature. Any ideas?

it s not too complicated. The 3d element plug-in contains this 3d arrow so just add it and make a mask layer around the soilder.

"that bvasiclly just slows down the video" just showed how little you understand about editing... it doesnt just slow down the video, it uses an advanced algorithm to process each frame and create new frames by blending the past frame and the future frame together... its extremely complicated, however due to their hard work its so simple even someone like you can use it... its well worth the price.
