The U.S. didn't lose the war in Afghanistan. It just left as it didn't benefit them being there and more strategic placements were needed. No one kicked the U.S out nor did they lose a major battle. Leaving/withdrawing and the government put in place collapsing is not the same as them losing.

Amazing quality material, I am super impressed, but as a Polish I would like to point out one thing - the polish military aid to Ukraine is not represented the way it could be (for the past few videos). Let me give you example, I am sure you would agree that quantity of >300 T72 tanks (yes, more than three hundred) is significant aid and it would be worth specifically mentioning it? Thanks

Depending on how many tanks Ukraine has left from 2022, Ukraine may not need all of the western tanks to arrive before starting its offensive. It may be sufficient to know that the tanks are on the way to replace their losses in their upcoming offensive. Although, even if this is the case, it would still be better if more of the tanks arrived sooner.

It's economically driven. News tv stations cannot afford to have reporting and analysis teams specialised in just one subject/theme, e.g. warfare, on their payrolls. After all, they provide news for free to the viewers. Tv news teams are typically known for knowing only a little about a lot and rarely much about anything, thus only able to report and analyse superficially and generically. Some newspapers and magazines are able and willing to provide more depth, even on more than one subject. Subscriptions to those cost substantially more. Which explains why the poor generally are less well informed than the wealthy. The poor increasingly have to work a lot harder to find things out and spend more time doing so, only to get properly informed. So huzzah for KZbin and its small group of serious and high quality content creators.

A great video as always, unfortunately I have to disagree with some points "-Mobilization has not yet had an effect" I would say this is pretty easy to disprove, since the Russians fully mobilized Ukraine hasn't been able to go on an offensive and the fronts have been relatively stable for the past few months. Compared to before when it looked like Russia was so thinned out they might have to withdraw even more by winter. Now Russia has the manpower to make small pushes in certain areas. I'd also be VERY cautious with the "Russia is running out of X" lines that have been going on; in this case cruise missiles. Russia was trying to cripple Ukraine during the winter, which is now over, so its logical for them to hold off on launching massive strikes as often as possible to stockpile for their next missile campaign. Not necessarily running out but instead not shooting everything they have for no benefit. Those claims that Russia is going to run out of a thing have been going on since last spring from artillery barrels to generals, and yet they never run out.* Don't forget Russia is a powerful country, a rather incompetent one but still, don't fall into the trap of thinking they're some generic Hollywood bad guys, they're still powerful and they'll adapt to their failures and be stronger for it. At the start of this war NATO troops were the worlds combat experts, no one in the world had more combat experience than the US. Now, after a year of constant combat I'd imagine that Russia and Ukraine are likely the worlds experts in conventional warfare. *OBV doesn't apply to artillery ammo which historically everyone always runs low on in every war ever.

@David T this was quite the *special* operation... not a full scale invasion, but just 60k troops pushing on the major norther Ukrainian cities and another 80k pushing on all other parts of the Russian-Ukrainian border, but somehow not a full-scale invasion; intended to rescue the Ukrainian people from a brutal civil war causing a whopping 139 civilian casualties on both sides in the past 3 years...by starting a war that has caused over 200k casualties and razing entire cities to the ground

Good points all, but everyone knows that if all the West's military resources are simultaneously deployed at Russia's there can only be 2 outcomes. 1) Nuclear war or 2) Russian capitulation. The question today is simply how much irritation will either side endure before some type of negotiated peace is determined. Putin, Xi and Khamenei all know their "tail" isn't strong enough to wag this particular dog into submission. But, that's not the goal. The goal is to wear the dog down so it'll obey commands to be named later. The aforementioned have to endure 21 months...can they? Probably, but will they?

One mind. Russian airforce failed due to Ukrainian mid - and long-range air defenses such as S300 and BUK, not because small and portable stingers and Gepards. Gepards are not even used against russian air forces. It is longer ranged weapons that forced russian aircraft to fly low and inside range of those hand-held weapons.

A bigger problem than the supplies not getting there in time is the Ukrainian military not being trained on much of what's being sent, the tanks in particular. While they may have training that qualifies them to operate old T-series tanks left behind by the Soviet Union, they most certainly don't have the training to qualify for operating more modern tanks like the Leopard, Challenger and Abrams. So without crews trained for those tanks, they're pretty much worthless.

I have been wondering how Ukraine has been supplying troops to the war. Russia vastly out numbers Ukraine by a huge population so it should have the edge assuming they can enlist and arm its troops but it appears that hasn't been working out for Russia very well. Ukraine doesn't release much Intel either by troop numbers. Can they get enough to make a major offensive? We are going to find out soon enough I suppose.

ukraine has a massive population and forced draft, the front is narrow enough for both sides to have saturated with troops
Eric Nesbitt
Eric Nesbitt 2 ай бұрын
I saw some numbers a while ago so they are out there, I think Ukraine still has a big force. after 2014 they had the second largest standing army in Europe second to Russia, something like 300,000 in Ukraine to 1.15 million in Russia. when Russia invaded, Ukraine called all men 18 to 60 to stay to fight if they were needed. Ukraine's population is some 60 million, so that's a lot to draw from. Putin's partial mobilisation was some 300,000 troops and they struggled to train and arm them. Russia can't use all its army or it will leave the borders undefended, even if it mobilised more it could hardly support the partial mobilisation let alone a full one. Ukraine is getting troops trained in the UK and Europe, they have some 500,000 soldiers now, Also in modern war I think raw troop numbers mean less compared to numbers of weapon systems and vehicles. I just had a google and apparently land force wise Russia outnumbers Ukraine 2.2 to 1, but the big deficit is in artillery at 3 to 1 (I would have thought bigger), and tanks 6 to 1. Thankfully Russian fights by shooting in a blanket style rather than with accuracy. Ukraine has already proved it can do a major offensive, as they already did it at karkiv oblast. They just have to be able to punch through the Russian lines again. If the Russian defence holds or not is the question, Russia has had time to dig in, and their supply lines are a bit shorter after losing territory to Ukraine, but it still a very long front they have to defend, and they can't be everywhere.

I fear those 450 aircraft are being trained and kept in reserve for when the Ukrainian offensive starts. Concentrating your troops against overwhelming air power is generally not a good idea, so the west should probably prioritize anti-air assets over tanks for the nest few months.

I have discovered this channel three months ago, and it a was a good surprise for me. This is again a very good work. I must to say that the english-speaker youtube is better than french-speaker , you have less russian's trolls in comments than us ! Anyway, congratulation from France ! 🟦⬜🟥

About 15-25K men since the beginning of the war so for every 8/9 Russians 1 Ukrainian dies. Much higher than the 1:4 expected from defenders advantage.

Awesome video! A little advice is to use terrain levels and rivers in analysis of the situation. West of Bakhmut Ukrainians occupy advantegeous heightsin Chasov Yar. In the eastern part of the city lays the Bakhmutka river and to the south of the city there is a foresty land where Ukrainians positions are. That is why it is unlikely that Bakhmut will be captured any time soon. Moreover, Ukrainians are preparing there a nasty surprise 😏

A great video. I’m not sure the report of the uk pushing a negotiated settlement is credible, the uk tends to be at the forefront of providing aid to Ukraine and hates breaking stride with the US on foreign policy matters, plus there is no domestic appetite in the u, for a negotiated peace so far. Though the uk economy has taken a hammering over the last year so it’s possible the pm is losing his resolve.

"Bakhmut Holds" I think we can all see the direction that Bakhmut is going. Ukraine has made a valiant attempt there and bought a lot of time to strengthen defensive lines further to the west. But, Bakhmut is, unfortunately, a lost cause at this point.

Battle of bakhmut has been going on for over 6 months now, there’s every chance that Ukraine will be in a position to launch its counter offensive before Russia finally takes the remainder of the city.
Emil Chan

From what I heard, things are pretty grim for both sides. Ukraine is still contesting Bakhmut but risk being encircled as Russia is trying to go for a pincer movement. But Russian military bloggers are still doubtful that Russia would be able to fully close the pincer.
Ironvultures
Ironvultures 2 ай бұрын
@Emil Chan facts on the ground are patchy but from what I’ve heard from ukranian commanders being interviewed the pace of the Russian advance to even get a partial encirclement has been so slow that the forces inside bakhmut are fairly confident they can execute a withdrawl fairly comfortable withdrawl before they can get surrounded.

@Ironvultures I'm not sure a Ukraine counter offensive will be as successful this time, as Russia has mobilised manpower now. They aren't guarding their entire front with only 190k men now.

It is not strategic, but it is strategically beneficial to defend. Do you play chess? A pawn is unimportant, but in some circumstances defending it is beneficial.

@Kings and Generals Cities attacked by Russia are levelled flat by artillery. Ukraine presumably knows the 2 bigger cities behind Bakmut will be next to get demolished if it falls, and prefer to avoid that as cities aren't replaceable in the short term..
