Grappler Baki: The Ultimate Fighter, originally known as Grappler Baki, is a 45-minute original video animation (OVA) that was released in 1994.
This was the first animation of the Baki manga, and it was a time when Baki was black-haired,
was screaming like Bruce Lee when fighting, Kozue was ugly as hell, and Doppo even carried Tokugawa in his hands like a baby. And not a hint of Yujiro Hanma.
Also, Tokugawa's voice is something!
The story is a close adaptation of the first few volumes of the original manga, in which Baki Hanma fights Shinogi Kosho.
It was licensed and released on DVD, under the title Baki The Grappler: The Ultimate Fighter, on December 1, 1998.
The story tells about Baki Hanma, a high school student who likes his athletics to be a little more extreme than the school football team.
He is a martial artist on the no-holds-barred fighting scene, and he is flying up the ranks.
Baki proves himself a force to be reckoned with despite being the youngest one there.
As he moves up the ranks, however, the competition gets harder.
He then moves on to the real challenge - Kousho Shinogi, the "Cord-Cutter", known for ripping out and severing people's nerves and muscle tendons.
Let's compare how the main characters are changed in 26 years.
How they were looking in the first animation in 1994 and how they're looking in the latest animation from Netflix, in 2020.
