I enjoy your videos. We've had an omnia for 9 years. We've never made bread on the rack provided, just in the aluminum bunt pan. Also omnia sells silicone inserts that are fantastic, makes clean up easier and insulates the bread touching the inner wall, no more burning. Thanks for posting.

Nice. Only issue is that you can’t make more tha one serving at a time. I find it better to add the water to just the yeast first, then add flour. That way you get a better distribution of yeast through the dough without much kneading. I only do sourdough, discovered this, it really helps. I do tend to use a very wet mix, and don’t do much kneading. ( have admit that sometimes they come a bit heavy, but still taste / eat fine) ps, you could make a giant doughnut with that oven! Yet to make bread onboard, but have done scones on a griddle iron.
@rolty1
@rolty1 4 ай бұрын
I'd love to make sourdough, it's not currently in my skill set. I always knead for at least 10 minutes, this really distributes the gluten and makes the dough rise like a rocket! But I know sour dough is a very different system.. one day 🙂

The Omnia and Origo are both great bits of kit.....the latter now stupidly expensive second hand.
@rolty1
@rolty1 Жыл бұрын
I am 'warming' to the Origo, I didnt like it at first and it tends to set off the CO alarm rather regularly, but other than poisoning the crew it's not so bad. Fuel is expensive and difficult to come by away from home, - I get it from ebay, but this wouldnt work in far flung places where you can always get propane
@lauriebloggs8391
@lauriebloggs8391 Жыл бұрын
Interesting, I love it and it's generally felt that the availability of fuel around the world is a lot easier than others? I tend to use bioethanol instead of meths....... Gas is way better at killing crew!!! There used to be an oven that would attach to the base of the top unit (the 3000), but that is unavailable now. Compass are remanufacturing the top burner unit (the 3000) If I could get an oven, I would rip gas out of my boat ! In the Omnia, I have cooked roasts, baked pies and bread...works very well too?@@rolty1

Bloody hell , are they still available . I had one back in the 90's , when i lived on my 25 footer . Used to cook the whole sunday dinner in it . Veg in make shift baco-foil pots , meat , only thing cooked separately was the tatties . Did miss them not being roasted though ! . Almost no washing up too . Same design , though i'm pretty sure the lid was taller . Looks roughly the same size too . Seriously handy bit of kit ! . Dunno what happened to it in the end , i think it went with the boat . I switched to a motorhome about 5 year ago , but i could be making the switch back any time . Motorhome don't have an oven either , so i'm getting used to a cobb bbq oven now .

Well, as for 15:05 petrol and gasoline aren't gas either but some still call the accelerator a "gas pedal" so it's not that far off. Besides, all liquid fuels gasify before they properly combust. 😉 Nice fresh bread! How do you find keeping the flour usable and dry long term? I've never messed about on boats but I suspect it takes some doing sometimes... maybe I would try a well and truly sealable dry bag with stores of desiccant material, or perhaps repackaging and sealing the flour into smaller bags or containers so the rest of it stays unexposed to moisture much longer. Bonus points for style if a bread maker's boat starts to look like a white powder smuggling operation!
@rolty1
@rolty1 Жыл бұрын
I love your white powder remark! 😆 Of course, I am English so gas for us doesn't have anything to do with what we call petrol! And of course you're right, its the gas that burns, not the liquid. As to keeping the flour fresh, I keep it in a pastic box with a sealed lid - Remember Tupperware? That sort of thing is perfect in a wet environment

I enjoyed the Bread making vid , Looks very nice :) . just one question , why did you go from the contessa 32 to the 26 ? Thanks for Posting
@rolty1
@rolty1 6 ай бұрын
2 main reasons really, easier to handle: to raise the mainsal on the 32 I would invariably have to use a winch, on the 26 I can pull it up quickly and easily by hand. Secondly , cost: 26 is cheaper to buy sails for and all the other bits, mooring and all that stuff is cheaper too. The downside is very little standing room, I'm only 5'6" and can just stand right by the companionway... it's a bit slower too, although remarkably willing in a decent breeze!

It's also a great go anywhere sea boat that inspires great confidence. She is easier to handle single handed, I can raise the main sail without using a winch, everything is easy to reach, maintenance is cheaper. On the downside is poor headroom below, and generally tight on space. On balance I think I'll stay with the 26!

I absolutely love her! Very easy to handle single handed and always feels very stable and safe. Also surprisingly fast considering the long keel and very well built..(I'm not sure this would exactly apply to the Canadian boats which have some balsa coring). The only drawback is the limited headroom below, but you get used to sitting! I would buy another 🙂
