Baking TASTY Cookies 🌰 Soft Spoken Relaxing Cooking 🌰 ASMR

These date roll cookies were in the Egyptian cookbook I brought along with me. Dates are available almost everywhere in Egypt so I decided to pick up some really fresh dates from the local produce guy and make these cookies. They turned out really delicious and yummy. Hope you enjoy the baking sounds!

Date Roll Cookies Recipe
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup orange juice
date paste
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sift flour into a large bowl.
Add baking powder and mix well. In a separate bowl,
mix oil and orange juice. Add juice mixture to flour and mix.
Use a rolling pin to flatten dough into a rectangle.
Spread date paste on dough and roll it up, long side.
Use a very sharp knife to cut dough into 2 inch pieces.
Place cookies seam side down on a greased cookie sheet.
Bake about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
To make date paste, soak one pound of dates in hot water
for 15 minutes. Peel skin from dates and heat butter, spices
and dates, crushing and mixing until date ball forms.
Remove from heat.

As an Egyptian, i occasionally eat those baked date bars; i never knew how they were made, watching this i was like wow this is what we always find at the bakery 😍 that's how they do it! my MIL made date cookies every xmas, she rolled them into balls and the had rice krispies in them. i wish i had her recipe every year, sadly shes passed away now. i think the cookies were a no bake type, they were so good.

i think if you chilled your log before slicing it would work better. also i would sprinkled some finely chopped walnuts on the pizza before rolling it. they look yummy. ❤ i enjoy dates a lot.

Hi Amy, These are very popular middle eastern cookies and indeed very delicious! I make them like that: Dough - 560 gram white flour 10 gram baking powder 125 ml canola oil 50 gram coconut oil 100 gram brown sugar 250 ml water Filling - 450 gram dates spread 150 gram walnuts (chup them to small pieces) 2-3 teaspoon cinnamon Heat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Mix the dough ingredients together. Divide the dough to 4 balls. Roll out each ball and spread some dates spread on it, sprinkle some cinnamon and walnut. then roll each of the rolled balls tight and carefully move them to the baking pan. Cut each of them to 2 cm slices (don't cut them completely),brush them with some oil and bake for about 30-40 minutes. Only when they completely chill cut them. Sprinkle some powdered sugar.

Love this video!! Also, just a tip for quicker cookie making… you can buy the dates already seeded and prepped for baking. Usually in a vacuum sealed plastic. ;) Although these you made are very fresh! Im not Egyptian but Palestinian and Lebanese. We make a similar cookie. Might come out better if you tried using a small amount of dough in a rolled ball then roll it out into abt a 4.5 inch snake, then press it flat so you can put a shorter (and thinner) rolled up date snake on top. Fold the dough so it encloses the date snake. Pick up the ends and touch them so that it’s a circle and bake them that way! It will come out crunchy and delish!

Thank you for sharing your Egypt experience with us. Just a tiny tip the next time you bake date cookies. Whip a raw egg with some milk and cinnamon and with a silicon brush, spread the mix over the date cookies before putting them in the oven. The result will be tastier and softer. 💖
