Everybody knows this man and his bass playing helped revitalize Paul Simon's career. I can't imagine Graceland without Kumalo's sound and feel. It's so round, warm, buoyant... and South African. Big thanks to Paul Simon for exposing these musicians to the world at that particular time.

He played on all my early recordings in the 80s and also started a band back then; we are still great friends today and talk of collaboration, great musician

Wow, great interview for my friend Bakithi Khumalo, during my years learning music in South Africa this guy was far ahead playing with great local bands. if I was interested in lesson bass that's him I could go to, very friendly, always smiling, and very approachable. I wish him well. Thanks.

My favorite bass player. I never really got excited by complicated bass lines so the notion of a favorite bass player never really worked but over the years Bakithi’s style and timing just stayed with me as the measure of all. And he seems like such a good person
