I used to think as a kid that Masquerade won because Hydranoid was stronger. But really it was because Masquerade played the game smarter. Dan shouldn't have activated his last ability card. With the gate card, Drago was already strong enough to beat Hydranoid. But Dan chose to go with overwhelming power, which allowed Masquerade to respond appropiately by shutting down his gate card. If Dan had kept back his ability card, Masquerade would've used that fusion ability card (either the one we know of or something else) and Dan would've responded with a better ability card that would've counteract it. He made the same mistake Drago tried to warn about in their first fight with Masquerade. And it cost him.

Everytime I watched this Battle I always think about how Dan Misplayed. If you think about it. Masquerade never threw down an ability card Until his ace came into play. But when Energy Merge came into play Dan wasted a ability card which Masquerade knew that he would do. So When he set Joker's Wild and threw in Lazerman it's a way to let Dan Know that He wasted a precious resource so he gets penalized for it.

Daniel used 2 exclusive Dragonoid cards. the delta attack (which add drago 200G) And the wall burst (which reflects/cancel the bonus opponent ability) He had 3 Bakugan and had to beat another 3. facing an unpredictable rival, who also had an evolved bakugan, think that if dan used 3 exclusive ability cards for drago... griffon and saurus would have been unprotected. In addition, the fusion power can only be used in combination with another exclusive character ability card. So if drago is beated fast, you have 2 ability that u cant use for the rest of the team masquerade used a strategy based on 3 ability cards to dual hydranoid. But he used 3 gate cards to finish secondary fights fast, like the one he used with griffon and saurus. that why in the fight with Drago he generated numerical advantage of cards. Dan gate cards wasnt so destructive like masquerade cards because dan and his mayority numbers of gate cards are pyrus boost. Dan knowing that masquerade would try to cancel his cards or debilitate drago, prefered to include the wall burst to reflect that strategy instead of the fusion card

If Dual Hydranoid didn't have the built in ability to allow its user to end the battle in a draw by sacrificing an ability card and paying 300 hsp, Dan would have won. Speaking of the ability card sacrifice... Masquarade used 3 abilities anyway, which wouldn't be possible unless he sacrificed the Dual Gazer he used already. However, the wiki does not state that the ability card being sacrificed had to be unused. The question is this: is that cheating or galaxy brain loophole abuse ?

Best guess: That card did not count as an Ability Card according to the game's established rules, much like how the Doom Card doesn't, because it didn't increase the strength of the Bakugan, it didn't affect the battle in any way and the HSP of the Bakugan being restored went down. It was probably a card that acted like a doctor (excuse the metaphor, because I can't think of anything better) to solely heal the Bakugan rather than improve the game past Hydranoid's innate abilities.
