It's not all about trophy hunting, the land conservation aspect, the respect for the animal, the value it brings filling hungry bellies. Much love from Kansas and I hope nothing but the best for the victims of the fire.

axis deer or any other mammals are not native to Hawaii, and they have no natural predators to control them except hunters... the population is out of control and deer are everywhere town, airport baggage claim, runways, schools, etc...

Nature uses slow starvation as a balancing tactic. Its very sad to see animals starving, one of the most terrible sights. Life and death is part of nature. Humans have an opportunity to blance the cycle without the extremes of starvation and chaos, if we wish. Even in native species, we have unbalanced nature by being there and providing unnatural food soucres for predators (trash, pets, cattle, etc). This means predators can overrrun and make prey species go extinct. They actually really do need us to actively care, bc human civilization isnt going anywhere. If prey species get overpopulated, like on the east coast of USA with the deer population or in this case, with non native axis deer population, it breeds disease, starvation, and long suffering. To manage the population and use its resources is a kindness. Even though it may not look like it at first. To know nature deeply, we must acknowledge it's a system of life and death. Humans can ease the pain of that system if we choose, and even help it flourish, by working *within* the laws of nature. :)
