Dr. Peter Attia explains that training the entire body helps prevent muscle imbalances and maintain functional mobility as you age.
Imbalances can lead to improper posture, reduced joint stability, and increased risk of injuries.
A balanced workout routine ensures that all muscle groups are strengthened, promoting better overall physical health and quality of life in the long run.
This, basically, is a recipe to be your fittest when you reach the last decade of life.

I know a horseback rider who celebrated his 100th birthday with a riding performance. Until recently he rode his horse three times a week. He quit jumping fences at the age of 91 because his trainer thought it would be too dangerous. To my knowledge he never lifted weights. I have similar plans. 😊

Intresting video. So what to do specifically to counteract the asymmetries that dr Attia is mentioning?
@60-Is-The-New-30
@60-Is-The-New-30 10 ай бұрын
Abdelilah, I have been talking about this forever. You need to train everything. This is what he's saying. You can't just walk. This creates a clear imbalance. You need to resistance train You need to train VO2 Max Flexibility Stability Agility DEXTERITY I mean seriously, this is what we lose we age You need to train everything we lose as we age This is what Attia is saying. You can't just play one sport because this only works certain parts of your body. This causes an imbalance in muscles, bones, etc. I am posting a video soon on dexterity. You are going to be shocked NO ONE TRAINS THIS, AND I MEAN NO ONE.

I think strength training and regular stretching makes your body symmetrical again
@jnisewaner

Unless you’re ambidextrous, you’ll always have a dominant hand/foot/side and be asymmetrical. This is especially true in sports - only shooting with one hand, swinging a racket with one hand, turning the same way in a golf swing, etc

How so? Weight training you do the same movements over and over. This is why you see 70 year old bodybuilders that can't run or move with fluidity on their feet When they move, they reveal their old age.

Good thing I play disc golf and work my hips both ways - forehand and backhand. Just gotta balance out the left hand now. Which now makes me wonder… isn’t everyone that’s not ambidextrous going to end up asymmetrical anyway?

I think you misunderstood what he said. He's not talking about golf per se. He's talking about having the entire body balances as you age. That means you need to work everything you lose as you age, such as: speed stamina reflexes agility stability flexibility power strength balance and more

@@youlig1 I think you are missing what Attia is saying. There is no such thing as ONE symmetrical sport. You use the same movement and muscles for every one sport. He is saying that for you to be in a youthful state in your last years of life, you need to train every aspect of your body, This means VO2 Max, power(fast twitch muscle fiber work outs), stability, flexibility, speed, agility, reflexes, etc. No single sport is able to help with this. You have to do different types of work outs to accomplish this. This is what Attia means by symmetrical

I agree nice edit, and nice crediting the guy too. Not everyone does it even though it's effortless AND helpful. You do much dancing? Any thoughts? I'm sure it's like anything; you move your body the right way often enough, it will pay off. I think (most) people are built to dance. One of those elemental human things. Fun, intuitive, and really good for learning your whole body's potential.

@@60-Is-The-New-30 I totally recommend it! Considering your balanced/whole-body fitness, you'd probably be a "natural." Mostly just have to learn technique and stuff specific to dancing. Not surprised it's good for longevity. I brought it up because I like your nice list - strength, aerobics, flexibility, stability, agility, dexterity - and figured dancing can check most or all of them. Plus, it's so adaptable, scalable, good social or solo, etc. (and, not for nothing, an attractive skill no matter who you are lol) Thanks for the good stuff. @@60-Is-The-New-30 I am sorry. Civilization is max 10K years old according to anthropologists. They were way healthier than we will ever be. There is no evidence people who lived to an old age, balanced their muscles to that degree of fantasy. Things in biology are not that discrete or linear. One muscle activity helps other muscles (remote preconditioning). It is the overall activity level that counts and the day-to-day being active. Other factors play out just the same, good diet and a positive outlook in life, good sleep, and trust for tomorrow. His view is too mechanistic (his medical school training). We should not be telling the population they need to exercise every muscle utopia. We need to encourage people to realistic levels of activity both physical and Mental.
