My deepest gratitude to you Neryssa Paige for this beautiful brief portrait of Balanchine's immortal "Baby Ballerinas". The critics of the time might have just as correctly named them the "Little Jewels" for their young genius sparkled upon the stage of Monte Carlo like Stars in the night. To watch these all too fleeting moments of Tamara Toumanova, Tania Riabouchinska and Irina Baranova, when little more than mere children, and yet simultaneously so seasoned and adult, at the very beginning of their illustrious careers, is to be swept up into a dream like state that defies description. How very thankful we lovers of the Ballet must be that such precious images were captured and immortalized on film for the benefit of all posterity. Thank you for sharing from a student of Maestro Vincenzo Celli, greatest male protégé of Maestro Enrico Cecchetti.

David Parker My teacher Mia Slavenska studied with Vincenzo Celli. I loved Mia's classes.

The images are said to be of the three baby ballerinas in 1932, but it is obvious they are much older than 12 or 13.
