Ladies and Gentlemen. Class is in session
@SeanGilbertson29 күн бұрын
Yeah I definitely feel like I went to a real class on how to play this game. I even went through some kind of Matrix-like denial process, where I started off like “No! I don’t want to worry about shaping my deck and removing cards!” but by the middle I’ve learned so much.

Goes to show deck consistency is king in this game. I mean it's a deck-builder, of course it is, but it's surprising to see how far it can go!
@drspectred8 ай бұрын
Even once you know that, you still have to figure out what you want your deck to look like and how to get there. The deck morphs very slowly over time, so there are many decision points which don't feel impactful in the moment but add up over time. It's a tough game!
@kanuos8 ай бұрын
@@drspectred That's true! There's also the fact that I tend to get tunnel visioned pretty quickly. And since some bosses can hard counter some builds, keeping your options open is also important. A hard, yet fun game!

When your hand is hidden like at 48:20 I like to select each card in turn and sort by rank/suit and try to determine which one each card is by cross referencing the full deck overview

Definitely a more efficient/methodical way I could've figured it out.

Skip Blueprint, skip polychrome, still win. Consistency over luck at that point!
@Dragonatrix6 ай бұрын
You do need luck to have the consistency to be able to make those kind of decisions in the first place though. If the game insists on giving you dogshit Jokers, if any, then there's nothing you can do with that. That's consistent but not in a good way.

I keep in mind the word SHoCkeD when trying to remember the order of suits: Spades, Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds. It can be useful for bosses like the fish.
@drspectred8 ай бұрын
Fun fact! The game was originally inspired by "Big 2," a card game the dev used to play with his buddies a lot. The "poker theming" only game later in the design process because he knew it would be more recognizable to folks. The ordering of the suits comes from "Big 2." The way I remember the order is I remember the suits alternate colors.

1:15:15 after running out of discards I'm definitely using death to play a pair of kings instead of going to $0 Although I would've probably spent more money on rerolls with a joker slot open, either way I'm probably avoiding losing that much to the Ox one way or the other
@drspectred8 ай бұрын
Not spending more money in the shop was an oversight. Within the round, we should have been weaving pairs in between our discards instead of using all the discards first. Either way, we were able to demonstrate how to bounce back. We could have committed to keeping Burglar but would have missed out on demonstrating what the "-1 Discards" actually feels like.

I've been stuck on Purple Stake for three weeks now. Doesn't matter what build I try, which Jokers I have, how much economy I have, how little or how often I skip. Everything just breaks down by the time I get to Ante 5 or 6.

Any tips for golden needle challenge other than suck it up and reset a lot and/or get lucky with early game mult jokers? It's the only part of the game I have really struggled with so far. Even on ante 1 blind 1 there can be huge economy discrepancies making me want to reset and with certain 1st/2nd shops you can just have the run die on you in the first ante. And even later in the game, extra hp or 0 discard bosses might still snipe you. The most frustrating part is that many of the shop offerings that take you from losing to winning in the first 2-4 blinds don't even work here. Three of a kind planet, you're dead. Bought a flush planet and had a low flush, still dead. +Chip joker, better roll for a 4 of a kind or straight flush, otherwise you might still be dead with 4x mult. Etc. Would love to see you try it and pull off a finish with as few resets as possible, but maybe it's not the best content 😅

Do you feel like you have to reset a lot of runs in this game? Or do you never do that? I heard that there are a lot of people who reset runs when they don't feel they have good enough jokers. I kind of don't like that, to be honest.
@drspectred8 ай бұрын
If I survive Ante 1, I don't reset. If I get into a tough spot, I try to power through. I don't always succeed, but I like the challenge. Different folks desire different levels of challenge. If you're not having fun, resetting is 100% the right call for you to make. At the end of the day, it's just a game. Choose the path which is most fulfilling to you.

I really do enjoy your videos, but why do your videos have an obscene amount of ads? I understand some, but every 4-5 minutes I get an ad interruption. I can't remember a time I've ever experienced it THAT much in a set of videos than yours over the years. Just me nitpicking, but it makes watching these unbearable on my Smart TV with no ad-blocker.
@drspectred6 ай бұрын
KZbin places the ads automatically, and it IS egregious. I'm able to manually adjust the ad placements, but it's a lot of work. Also, I just kind of need the money, straight up. We're not out here looking to make millions, just make ends meet. Without the revenue from ads, BalatroU ceases to exist. With the Twitch streaming stuff taking off, when I start making stable income from different sources (possibly paid sponsorships), I can manually remove some of the ads KZbin places in the videos. KZbin premium is egregiously expensive (for what you get), but ad-blocking tech is fairly commonplace these days. Most viewers won't ever see any of the ads, but I acknowledge it's a *very* miserable experience for folks who have to struggle through it (or concede to watching something else). For now, a necessary evil, unfortunately.
