An excellent result. I would prefer colourists to finish the hair off with a sleek straight style so that all aspects of the blend can be seen. Too many Stylists finish off the design with waves, which hides any demarcation or colour contrast. Once again, Great result, but would prefer an initial clip of the hair in a sleek style.

Love this technique! Would you consider doing a permanent color for the lowlight? I use Shades EQ and I love the tones, however I feel they wash out very quick. Thank you for tutorials. I enjoy learning your techniques and how thorough you are.
@TheLifeOfHair3 жыл бұрын
Hi thank you very much! Yes I would probably consider using a permanent but it would depend on the condition I find the more porous the hair is actually the more that a permanent colour can look translucent and not very rich. So on hair like this I would definitely always use shades EQ. The other thing that you might run into with using a permanent is that if you want to change the colour in the future the permanent pigments are much more stubborn to remove. Hope that helps all the best James

How long do you expect your client to go before she needs a retouch?
@TheLifeOfHair3 жыл бұрын
I’m in with a colour like this it could be 4 to 6 months depending on how precious she was about having the colour high up But if you’re talking about shades EQ fading I would expect it to last 20 to 30 washes 👍🏻

Beautiful, she must have been so pleased. Any particular pointers for balayage on clients that wear their hair straight?
@TheLifeOfHair3 жыл бұрын
Yes he was very pleased thank you very much for your comment. As to your question the best thing to do when you’re doing Balyage technique on very straight hair is to make sure that you incorporate some teasing flashback planing into the sections or apply a root stretch/root smudge afterwards to ensure that you get maximum blend from the Greek area through to the Midlands also if the hair is going to be worn very straight I want to avoid very very chunky techniques as the contrast and separation of a chunky technique on straight hair types can start to look striped All the best Jane

Absolutely love how you went about this! I´m working with Wella haircolor and I find that their demipermanent haircolor does not stay in the hair for very long. If you want to create dimension in blonde hair and apply it to dry hair it just washes out so quickly or just blends in the rest of the blond. (Even though you have the full development time or even longer) I had a colleauge do my hair and she weaved quite big sections similar to yours and used a level 6 with a bit of 5. ( also with some gold to fill the hair) As I understand things it has a lot to do with porosity and the level of blonde ( I was about a level 9/10 all over bleach but with a 6-7 cm natural regrowt, so I had not touched my hair with bleach for over 6 months, if not more and with no heatstyling) I would say the top section of the hair was quite porous. Do you have any tips for making it last longer because now it´s all kind of blurred out. Also how is Redken Shades EQ in this sense? From what I´ve learned from KZbin it is quite translucent? Warm Greetings from Sweden!
@TheLifeOfHair3 жыл бұрын
Great, thanks. In terms of getting a colour Do you have more longevity obviously you’re actually right when you say porosity is the issue the best thing you could probably do is pre-treat the hair if you’re talking about wanting to avoid porosity issues I will probably go as far as to say they’re in some cases even pre-treating Won’t fix all of the issues and really you’re going to just have to accept the fact that In certain circumstances when the prostate I fade is inevitable The obvious things that you can do is drop it a shade initially knowing that it will fade. In terms shades EQ the fade is pretty high as it is with all hair colours however one of the benefits is the fact that it has direct dies in the car this really helps with longevity but you are correct in saying that the result is translucent in the beginning but for me that is one of the best parts of the colour range

@@TheLifeOfHair Thank you James! Will definitely try it next time. Did some treatments in terms of hairmasks with moisture and Wellas own Wellaplex treatment before the color. @TheLifeOfHair3 жыл бұрын
Hi fantastic glad you enjoy it. So if you were going to cover grey I would probably do that as part of the process and paint all your roots down to where you wanted the lightness to roughly start and then simply follow the technique through as I did in the video Take your root colour all the way through on the lowlight sections and then but your light now up to the root area off your root/ low light shade. Hope that helps all the best James

James as well as i like the approach and the way you using the colours, i must say we need to make sure we explain people what is balayage is, as sometimes clients watches these and then tell us well why you dont use foils :D . Balayage is an open air technique , in the industry we are started to call everything balayage, yes the result might look like one , but this is no balayage, as soon as you put a single foil thats highlights. if you would have put cling film that would have been balayage too. results are always good, but the terms sometimes lost in translations .
@TheLifeOfHair3 жыл бұрын
Very good point and thank you very much for your input with this comment one thing I will say is that a lot of it is down to how KZbin and other social media platforms know how to categorise a video if we called it something very obscure or industry lead then it will never be seen because the algorithm will not understand how to show it to I know this is somewhat annoying I find it very frustrating I do plan to make video where we can best look at each technique and what they are and who are they for so that people can learn how to know what to ask for.

Great result It looks like maybe the previous hairdresser used a high lift tint on her and since she’s a natural 5 that’s why it turned out so orange ? I wonder
@OscarAndres20043 жыл бұрын
Hi James, so I had a client today in my cosmetology school and he had really processed hair, and I lighten her hair with 10 volume and she lifted very fast because had previous bleaching. She had a lot of orange from her last hairdresser and I wanted to lowlight but I had to take out some of the foils while still foiling the back. I wanted to add the foils back on but idk if I shoulded cleaned them? Because I removed the extra bleach with a. Damp towel. If I were to add the toner at the same time wouldn’t the hair over procces?
@TheLifeOfHair3 жыл бұрын
Hi thank you for your question probably the best way to answer this is how I might approach a technique like that when you are starting your foiling process the best thing to do is start with an extremely low volume Peroxide maybe 10 volume or lower so that you ensure that you don’t get over processing but prior to that when you are dealing with somebody with a mixed colour history always do a strand test so that you have a good idea of how quickly their hair might lift so that you can choose the appropriate peroxide if somebody has got to previously pre-lightened hair and you are like that again the likelihood is that as long as they haven’t done too many colour applications over that bleach it will lift reasonably fast. The lower peroxide will give you the time to then be able to put lowlight in between each before those without it over processing. Hope that helps all the best James

Hi james.i would like to ask that how long we have to apply a demi permanent colour with 3 % 10 volume after lightening the hair.
@TheLifeOfHair3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question - it will all depend on manufacturers guidelines really the best thing to do is always follow the manufacturers guidelines for best results obviously there are times where we don’t follow my factory guidelines for convenience reasons but then we fall into the subjectivity realms of which it is hard for me to give exact advice. The volume shouldn’t really dictate how long will leave it on for the volume will have an impact on how much colour deposit/lift we get from the colour Hope that answers your question if you have any further questions don’t hesitate to ask all the best James

@TheLifeOfHair3 жыл бұрын
I think it’s about how you pitch it to them in my opinion in this particular instance this woman had little to no choice to have something that was warm and when I explain this to them in a such a way that I do they either except the terms and conditions of me doing the hair or they go and see somebody else I know that seems a little bit harsh maybe but that is how I pitch it to them. If they can have bright white blonde hair then that is what they can have but I won’t compromise condition I do, do ashy blonde but The reality is I will only do these type of colours on people who are at least a level six or lighter.
