Amazing how the eagle senses the hawk closing and immediately rolls so that its talons are facing the other bird, ready to engage. Looks like the hawks may have had a nest nearby and were simply trying to chase the eagle off.

Incredible agility in mid-air for that eagle. I wonder how it knows where the hawks are coming from. It seems to anticipate their closing within striking distance before it flips around to put out its talons for defense.

All eagles have that maneuvre and they mostly use it amongst themselves. When eagles fight, they do it in the air, and they even lock talons together and spin like mad, loosening from each other just before dropping into the tree tops, which they sometimes do, at very nasty costs. Hawks and falcons always attack eagles and other big raptors like the Osprey and Spotted Eagle-Owl, not to kill them, but to harass them out of their territory.

Cool video. I saw this behavior in....of all places, San Diego. There are huge murders of regular NA Crows and even a few majestic semi solitary and huge Ravens (mostly seen them in pairs and croaking on top of some houses). The Crows always bother the bigger Ravens just like this (very acrobatic). There are also everything from peregrine falcons(and other smaller kind of hawks), to sea eagles and owls (even a few random colonies of escaped parrots)........not to mention the giant flocks of sea gulls. Its extremely interesting to watch birds here!!

It's not surprising that hawks are faster than eagles. This can be compared to why fighter planes are faster than bomber planes. Hawks are lighter in weight, so it's easier for them to overcome air resistance. But at the same time, the eagle is stronger and more resilient.

Looks like it was a classic case of mobbing amongst birds. I've seen behavior like this all the time around my area (Nebraska). Once I saw a small group of sparrows versus a crow. Another time, there was probably at least 60-70 crows doing this to a red-tailed hawk. They just jumped around in trees and crowded and screamed the hawk out, and a few of them chased the hawk to another tree. Then, they did the same until the hawk finally got the hint and left their area.

Raptors are extremely territorial and it appears this eagle unwittingly entered into the hawks territory, which is approx a 2 mile radius from their nest site. The pair of hawks could have easily done some real damage to the eagle, but it's obvious it was a mere warning to move along.

Actually the eagle could've killed them too since he's bigger and better in arial combat if thaws hawk's could've hurt him in air they would've done it long ago but that's what the eagle was hoping for he was waiting for the hawks to attack him then he would've grabbed one of them by the legs and would've done a serious damage to the Hawks legs or would've just poked it to death while grabbing it but the hawks were too smart and knew that

@NeffyLe11 жыл бұрын
Both are about of parallel strength but have two different hunting styles. Bald eagles are fish eaters who feed on waterfowl and carrion. They hunt but if the opportunity presents itself, would rather scavenge. Golden eagles are more mammalian hunters, eating anything from rabbits to medium sized deer. They also are the most widespread eagle and definitely the most versatile.

Not necessarily. A single hawk can defend it's territory against the likes of a much larger bird of prey. Here in GA, mississippi kites will fight to the death with the much larger red-tailed kites when it comes to nesting and the red-tail kites have to flee or risk being smacked from the sky. Mississippi kites just overwhelm the red-tailed hawk with extreme speed and uncanny maneuverability.
