There is this kite bird Boomerang in one russian bird reabilitation center, he can hunt, he can fly, he is absolutely healthum but as soon as he understood that he can get free food he decided to stick around. Okay, first, this eagle was import from zoo in France. Baekseol(eagle's name) was weak since he was born, so vets had to feed him, then he came to Korea when he was semi-grown. As there are 19 species when you include even the extinct ones with some species ranging from being ranked as (least concern) meaning they aren't threatened in any shape or form to the ones that are (extinct in wild). There is also 2 species that exists from cross breeding of different species with the newest of the Hybrid species having one of its parents being the long established hybrid species known as Harlequin maccaws.

fun fact: Researchers generally agree that if most flying Birds did not have so many predator's on land they would actually abandon 'flight" and become land animals again as the act of flying takes a lot of energy. Basically they become theropod dinosaurs again, sort of. Kind of like Cassowaries and ostriches etc etc

What a Stupid concept. You obviously have no clue about how birds take advantage of thermal energy and updrafts. A bird can glide for days and travel hundreds of miles over rugged terrain using thermal energy. That same trip would take any other animal weeks and MUCH more energy. Penguins ostriches and such didn't abandon flight, they have never adapted to flight. A seagull can travel vast distances and cross oceans without even flapping it's wings because it harnesses updraft currents. The pelican is a master of this kind of flight. A penguin would consume much more energy for the same trip. You make it seem that the "smart" bird gave up flight, but the truth is that the "dumb" bird hasn't mastered the art of flying.

there was a very interesting study we read about in one of my bio classes, i dont remember the name but it was very interesting looking at birds and at what point do they fly or when do they use it, it had something to do with bird's preferences on when to fly (when they prefer to walk vs fly) i think they used a slope to help determine this, it was a very interesting study..
