Bald Eagles & more at Sea Pines Forest Preserve • Nikon Z50

Heather and I go to Sea Pines Forest Preserve and photograph an Eagles Nest and more with our Nikon Z50 cameras.I used the 500 f/4G VR lens and Heather used the 200-500 f/5.6 E VR. This preserve is on Hilton Head Island, SC.

Great video Phil and Heather. Such awesome shots! Amazing captures of the eagle wow. A yellow bellied sapsucker - OMG! The last time I heard that name I was watching an episode of Gilligans Island as a kid. Now I’ve seen one for real! Good ol Z50 kickin butt, such a great little camera. This was a great trip, I loved the photos and I am that guy that loves the photo of the tiny yellow rumped warbler the most. The detail is crazy in that. The crawdad shot was cool too, but I really liked the otger one. Call me odd...🤷🏻‍♂️😂📸

What a phenomenal trip and place. The eagle pics are wonderful. Love the YR Warbler too. But that alligator. 😱. Not something you’d want to walk up on and spook by accident. I’ll take the black bears any day...

Nice shots all! Love the Great Egret with the Crayfish...those guys will try to eat most anything; I've seen them with frogs, lizards, snakes as well as fish. I just went out this week with my new Nikkor 200-500mm f5.6 and my Z50. It is quite the combo and I got many good shots. I appreciate you featuring that lens so I could learn about it. Cost is roughly the same as the Tamron or Sigma 150-600mm but is tack sharp even at f5.6!

Nice clear view of your eagle nest. We're always battling branches and twigs. Trying to find an opening to shoot through. I have a few videos of that nest in my animals section from last year. Two other eagles in another area lost two nests this year. They lost their old nest first and then the wind blew the second nest down with the eaglet in it. On our way home we saw a eagle circling a dead deer that was in the road. So we caught some eagle in flight photographs. Mark Smith has me questioning if I should buy a Sony camera and lenses for bird in flight photographs.

Phil, your 200-500mm is gone, Miss Heather got her first bald eagle pic and I could tell by the way her eyes lit up when you asked her that it's in her blood now! She has the " Full Bug " ☺ You guys got some good eagle shots 👍

Loved the photos. I got back recently from three days of shooting and found that my z50 was doing better w/ birds in flight (at least against the sky or water). Did you notice an improvement w/ the latest firmware update? Or did I just stumble on better settings? :-)

I'm happy with both of those cameras but I'm sure I'll upgrade at some point. Maybe in 2022.

How's the high ISO performance on Z50? Today I shot swans flying with auto ISO on D5600 1/1000sec and ISO 640, and it was pretty noisy.

It’s not horrible, I would say it’s better than my D 7100 but not as good as my Z6.
