I don’t quite agree with that view of lorgar purpose/specially of war as Valkan, Sanguinius or even the Primarchs Alpha Legion would fit that image better. I believe that Lorgar was originally meant to be the His Praetorian instead of Dorn. Where the Custodians where the Emperor’s personal bodyguard, the 17th legion would have been his Enforcers with the imperium similar how the 20th are his Secret Service or how the 6th are his executioners while the 12th are more tailored to complete destruction all before their Primarchs came to be. It seems like fanatical loyalty is the 17th trait like the alpha legion is secret war or the thousand sons are more warp base warfare. Lorgar thought highly of himself yes, but not in the same way as his other brothers, he wanted to be a peacekeeper, a philosopher, a writer, an orator. Its easier to explain it by posting a discussion between lorgar and kor phaeron which he admits that he is lesser to his brothers in terms of warfare and fighting but he opines as to why his father (the emperor) would not approve of oration, diplomacy, and philosophy which lorgar excels at. And like why skypants said, Lorgar was an affection primarch, who literally defied fate by charging against something he KNEW would be his death just to protect his genesons against corax.

Whilst we World Eaters prefer a more direct path, the World Bearers have nonetheless delivered many Imperial worlds directly into the maw of the Primordial Truth, and certainly deserve respect for the effectiveness of their tactics (just as the Alpha Legion or Night Lords do theirs). One wouldn't even have to be personally evil to worship Chaos; the fact that higher powers literally exist would be more than justification. That chilled me about Chaos, before faith in the Emperor became an objective force in 40K: for all of its incomprehensible cruelty and horror, Chaos was real/factual/true.

The Ultramarines destruction of Monarchia was also not a clean affair either, they bluntly landed demanding everybody to leave the city or die, threatening the people for asking them why and even killed protesters without hesitation. Guilliman himself felt that what the Emperor forced him to do was too far and would only lead to trouble. Lorgar did not want to worship for the sake of it, he wanted the truth because he saw that the Imperial Truth was the lie that it was, the signs throughout the galaxy were too many, the pattern they formed was clear to those who bothered too look. He did not worship the Emperor as a God because he 'wanted to worship' but because the Emperor was a god in all but name. @@TheInundation I mean was it wasteful? they took their time but I doubt any world conquered by the wordbearers would ever revolt. A couple generations of peace and people will forget the terror of the nightlords; a century of prosperity and people will question why are they paying this distant faceless tyrant of the stars, while growing fat off guilliman's infraestructure; give them a generation and they'll start thinking that the angels of death that will castigate them if they revolt are just a tall tale of fat aristocrats and weird red robed spooks trying to cling to power; with time the banners of the great fortress will fade and maybe it's guardian's memories of the hands that built it and the gauntleted fist that ordered their ancestors to watch over it will fade with them. Not to say that his aproach was anything close to the best but it had it's merits in a galaxy were the main institution was this necesarilly artificial empire oddly full of religious imagery. My prefered excuse to the inconsistency of big E with Lorgar is that he knew he was telling a boldface lie and the the primarchs were a walking ever looming threat to his imperial truth,so he did what most people liying under a galaxy sized amount of preasure do and just stuck to the rehearsed script and tried to not draw the attention of his hyper inteligent supersons to the lie. So he just sent Lorgar into the galaxy like all of his troops, blind lambs into forest infested with multi-headed, fire-breathing, tentacle-covered wolves maybe trusting that the wolves were few and the forest big enough that they wouldn't find that many till they conquered everything. That might be an awfully hopeful shot in the best of circumstances but the great crusade was a giant leap of faith allready so I guess it was't hard to just hope a little more. So in that silent desperation of a contraband carrying person in an airport he hoped; he hoped that the iconoclasts would change Lorgar as they were as opposite to their primarch as any legion could be and that would make the result of the reunion the opposite of all the others( assuming The Emperor had the time to notice any of the effects of the other reunions beyond combat results). So when he found that Lorgar was endangering all that was sacrificed in the altar of defeating Chaos reminding him that people, even among his bulwark against terror, could choose not to head his lie two of the most human emotions took the place of hope, anger and fear. So he scolded his "son" like one scolds a dog that dugged under the flowers of the backyard, there was little teaching and much venting and self-reasuring that he was indeed holding the leash. Maybe it was thinking less of the mortals and more of a choir of laughing gods, a demonstration of his power over his shinning sword made to kill the darkness. So he left the naughty dog and hole on the backyard for latter, as there would be time for fixing what was broken after he was done. For the end was in sight, the gods grew weaker with every day that passed as all the bridges to their realms burned in the fires of his curated creed of reason and their voices were drowned in the roaring of his perfect machines of war, for his dogs lead them well while he held 18 leashes. Or maybe is just bad characterization, sorry for the wall of text but your videos are kinda inspiring dude, great stuff.

@Dr.Gainzzz4 жыл бұрын
@@Rogerio_FM I hate this opinion of lorgar being the weakest, he was only considered the weakest primarch because of how long his legion would take to bring a planet under compliance but we know now that this was only due to lorgar using diplomacy striking treaties and building his cities and the populace to worship the emperor. When the word bearers and world eater legions first launched their shadow crusade Angron himself was impressed and felt like he underestimated lorgar and the word bearers legion as they were KEEPING up with angron and his legion possibly waging war even better than them with the butchers nailed enhancing them. Lorgar proved during the hersey he was far from being the weakest primarch.

I appreciate the work you put into this as it’s actually quite good. There were a few errors that are small but need to be said as Meme lore is ruining everything. The Emperor knew full well that Lorgar was religious and simply didn’t care. Remember that there was weeks of feasting and celebration in the God Emperor’s name that the Emperor was made to take part in directly after Discovering Lorgar in Colchis. On Monarchia the Emperor was very clear He was upset that the WB were slow in their conquest, and then the argument became about religion and the Divinity or Lack thereof for the emperor because of Snide comments made by Malcador and later the Emperor. Lorgar wasnt a Fanatic and neither were the Word bearers until shortly before, during and after the Heresy. the First heretic explains this, as when Argel Tal is forced to his knee he is so Horrified that he makes a comment about how this wasn’t devotion, it was Slavery and Subjugation. later on shortly after Monarchia and during the time leading up to the Heresy their Combat Doctrine changed and they became What the Emperor wanted them to be, Lorgar a General and the Wordbearers an army. Argel Tal specifically told Lorgar he feared that the wrath they visited in those worlds in the wake of Monarchia would forever brand the Wordbearers as fanatics in the future. Lorgar was also described as being anathema to Conflict, he was spoken of as being meek and caring. In fact many of the Qualities attributed to Vulkan actually belonged to Lorgar when he was still Loyal. There are many instances of him being disquieted and Caring for Humanities plight in the novels, such as when he arrived on Nostramo, he among all the others is specifically described holding Sorrow in his eyes at the Suffering Of the People on Nostramo. In Aurelian, It’s explained that the reason why Lorgar Adopts Chaos is because he is Led to believe that Humanity is headed for the same fate as the Eldar, in that they will in their ignorance Birth another chaos god and be Devoured by it. Lorgar is Told that the Chaos wants to Meld with reality and that by embracing Chaos Humanity can Survive or stave off the Dooming their race as the Eldar did. In addition to that, Lorgar is Given Visions of what will come to pass should he stay with the emperor. Until that point Lorgar struggled with accepting what chaos was and was very much on the fence about siding with them up until that point when Ingethal showed him what would take place if he refused to help chaos, and when next we see him he is firmly sided with chaos. Also had the Group that Lorgar sent to Calth Followed his Orders Then Guilliman would have been killed. What happened at Calth was orchestrated by Kor Phaeron, not Lorgar, it would have been a LOT bloodier and Much more of a Win had They Followed Lorgar’s Orders. That leads me to my last Point, we don’t actually know of the WordBearers we typically see in 40k are what Lorgar considered his true sons. There is a distinction between those who follow specific doctrine established by Apostles on the Dark council, as the entire force sent to Calth were those among his sons who couldn’t let go of their hate of the Ultramarines. And it was made abundantly clear that Lorgar Disliked Kor Phaeron and Erebus. Argel Tal became his Most Favored of sons, and later on in the Book Apocalypse, Amatnim Names the Crimson Lord and Lorgar’s teachings to run counter to that of The Dark council’s. And as for the claim that the Word-bearer’s are the most evil, well that’s a matter of Speculation. The Evil the Wordbearers commit is not without reason, for them because they know first hand that the only way to save Humanity from inevitable destruction is to help them Embrace Chaos. That idea, true or not is far more Noble of an idea then say......... a fraction of the Horrors that an slannesh Devoted emperors child could inflict upon you for its own pleasure. Or what a Nightlord would do just for shits and giggles.

Thank you, brother Blackdog. Ok, I never claim to be an expert on every faction - far from it. I am only a fan too. I do know of some of what you say, but certainly not all. I will definitely do more research before I even entertain the idea of doing Lorgar. But some of this I think comes down to a different perspective. Which is wonderful. That Warhammer 40K can elicit measured and fun discussion is the most compelling thing about the hobby in my mind. I perhaps bought into more of the Dark Council view and less of Lorgar, if you will. I would state that the opinions on the fallen Primarchs can be very difficult indeed, as some of the chaos books make them look so much like wronged wee fellows. Then the view of the Emperor is horrific. But on the other hand I personally think that a lot of this is due to the narrator being an untrustworthy voice. If you only read the chaos centric books then the Emperor is a sociopath and butcher. If you read the loyalist he is a wonderful but flawed human being. I have to try to walk the middle line - so sometimes I just go for that which is going to give the most entertainment and the most of the 'feel' of the Word Bearers. Also two people can read exactly the same book and come out with utterly differing points of view. I will attempt to be more measured with him in the future, but it was only an introduction and that meant that I had to get to what I consider the heart of the issue. I could argue with a lot of the mentioning of Lorgar being compassionate and having a wonderful heart, but I think he is utterly delusional and lying to himself, as his actions simply do not match up to that presentation and self image. But this is the beauty of the hobby. So rich that it can be viewed in a myriad of ways. I change my view on many of the main characters within hours of penning an entry, then back again. Simply put -I will never please all. But I will always listen to everyone;s perspective and try to make the core fans of a group as pleased as possible by championing their faction. I may not have gotten everything right - but at least this faction should now be feared and taken seriously by any newbie who wanders onto the site to get a brief intro. Then they can go on to discover the greys that you are mentioning so well. I hope that makes sense. Thank you for listening. I hope that when I do get to Lorgar that I can go back to this post and make sure I consider all of the many points you have so well articulated and 'future me' is very grateful to you indeed. It will help incredibly :)

True enough Jesse, but the thing that stops me from agreeing completely is the Visions he was shown in The book Aurelian. We aren’t shown what what he saw, it immediately skips from that moment when he asks what will happen should I not help. To his real-time conversation with Magnus. He was clearly Struggling to accept that there is nothing after life but a hell, that there were parasitic beings that fed on abstract concepts and emotions. To being firmly in bed with chaos. One has to wonder what he saw

Baldermort's Guide to Warhammer Thank you for replying. I am sorry if I came across as defensive, it is the cold talking and the disappointment that I have let someone down even a bit. I apologize if it came across as hostile, as it was certainly not my intent. I am always always grateful for a well-constructed discussion with someone else who loves this great hobby and its rich and diverse law. I will definitely be reading your comment and taking a steer from it when I do finally get to the Golden One for a full-on Primarch video. Hello, I recently ran across your videos for the first time a week ago and that quickly became a sub as well as a question. Do you use any post-production on the voice? I only ask because your style of presentation and vocal techniques remind me of the legendary Vincent Price in how you deliver the narration, just much more bass to the voice, and I think that is absolutely wonderful as that kind of theatre evokes so much more, even with information that pretty much everyone watching these videos already knows very well. If there was a time machine, we should send you back to the 90s so you can voice the Atmosfear games and their like, you have that late night horrow show voice. Keep it up guy!

michael murphy alas, my post production is torturous, as my ability to read out clearly is still very new. So I end up removing errors, breathing, etc. But do I put myself through any alteration? Nope. I just give it my best amateurish go and hope it’s tolerable. :). Price is a legend. Legend. If only I were half as talented. I only started in September on lore and voice work - apart from being silly in roleplaying games - so it’s very much a work in progress. Glad it’s ok. Thank you for listening. :).

This was my first video of yours a bit back, and damn is it just as good as a remember it. I did like the idea of The Wordbearers, but the way you present them and the son of Lorgar you portrayed really encapsulates what caught attention about them, I would really love to see them more in modern 40k and really hope to see them in Dark Heresy campaign I have coming up. Either way, this is still my favorite video or yours and I really hope to hear more from this Wordbearer someday in your videos.

This is truly incredible work! I subscribed within just a few minutes. You give a fantastic Chaos sermon. I have heard audiobooks of much lower quality than this fine video. I will certainly check out the rest of the content you create.

Well, not all are as in depth sound wise, but we are trying to make the big ones more immersive. Its fiddly work, but I think it is worth it. Thank you for joining us on the guides, brother Inthemorn. :_)

Had a new revelation concerning the Blood Ravens.......... The Blood Ravens were created for the dawn of war series of games. In the faction introduction for Chaos dark crusade and the dialogue between the Blood Ravens and Chaos. The answers lie there..... The Gene father for the Blood Ravens is.......... Lorgar Aurelian! Known also as the Urizen (wisest of the wise) in light of all this just think of thier battle cry:" knowledge is power, guard it well." TTFN!

*jaw hits floor* I now need to watch all of the cut scenes again. My last Computer died so I don't have it on a near completed save. Damn Sergeant! Damn!!!!!!!

@@Baldermort LOL! My son played it for me on his phone and my mouth was open in utter shock.... You can search: Dawn of war Dark Crusade - All Intro Cutscenes. TTFN!

@@Baldermort Also in the Chaos intro cut scene where the word bearers are fighting the Ultra Marines the Chaos banner bearer's banner looks strikingly like the Blood Ravens chapter banner. Whether this banner is simply an oversight by the developers of the game or not, the game originally wasn't cannon, but over time it has become official lore. TTFN!

@@Baldermort The only other legion that one could argue given this (revelation) would be the Red Angel's Bloody thirteenth. But the Blood Ravens lack the um...... (fanatical zeal for visceral melee) that even the pre- herasy War Hounds possessed. But seem to wield the cold fury of the Imperial Heralds. TTFN!

Actually the Primarch of the Blood Ravens is Magnus the Red apparently.

Great video. Lorgar is a great villain. Because he believes completely and wholeheartedly in his cause and nothing is more than dangerous than a villain has true belief and conviction in his ideals.

I Wonder what a pre-heresy WordBearers displaced in time to the post Heresy would make of the Imperium?. What would the Imperium make of them?

That'd make for a cool premise for a short story, actually. I'd read that.
