It was great. My only criticism is that it was kind of lame that, while yeah it makes complete sense for him to just top himself at that point, from a story standpoint it was a bit anticlimactic to just lay out what happens. Idk if it's just cause I thought it was where you were going but I thought leaving whether he decides to make one last push with his men or take the easy way out when he says "I lead my soldiers one last time" ambiguous would have been a more poignant ending

This was a treat to wake up to and an amazing job as always. As a Tyranid player with a cult kill team I've always felt that the cult embodies the true horror element of the universe. Aliens like the tau will use honeyed words and temptations, chaos will wage a war on your soul but true terror is seeing your neighbours and friends suddenly turn violent and start killing everything around you. That cute store attendant trying to stab you with anything she can get her hands on, workmates and family members gone insane. Even if the war against the cult is won then comes the descending hive. There can be no victory against such insidious organisms.

Peter Fehervari's 'Cult Of The Spiral Dawn' is a excellent book about Genestealers. I highly recommend it. I've heard good things about 'Fist of the Imperium' by Andy Clark, where Imperial Fists go against Genestealers! Can't wait to read this one also. Great work as always Baldermort.

I've always wondered how could the first generation not be immediately detected and purged by the imperium. It's when the cult is at it's weakest, and most vulnerable, IT would make more sense for the first generation to be the most similar to humans, in order to blend in, and then, only in following generations develop more evident xeno traits, but instead it works the opposite way.

Bare in mind, the cults stay low for as long as they can. deep and far from any attentions. luring the homeless, the dregs, the addicts and weakest to them is child's play. from there after they've subverted those victims the process begins on building the next generation which can move freely amongst the populace.

@@Noxims47314 well yeah i guess they lay low in the beginning, but still on a hive world there's not that much privacy, if you get a purple baby, someone is gonna notice, be it your drug dealer, your local mob boss, a passerby, or someone who shares your alley to sleep. they MIGHT not care or understant that is a threat, but still, having the first generations more "discrete" would allow the cult to be virtually undetectable until well estabilished, particularly if the idea is that of spreading into higher levels of society: the first noble with a purple baby will rise the alarm immediately. i know it works this way im just explaining why i find it odd when the opposite strategy would be "better" imho obviously =)

Thing is a lot of them probably are cut off at source, Ordo Xenos on the Eastern Fringe are probably playing wack-a-mole with nascent 'Stealer cults. But hiding on the fringes it's easier than it many first appear, look at the Cain novels a lot of planets only have a single Arbitrator or Commissar assigned (and in some cases that 1 Commissar has to over see the PDF on anything up to a dozen worlds, and these aren't exactly the cream of the Departmento Prefectus to begin with) and without that Imperial Expert knowledge a Genestealer baby looks like any other mutant to the semi-regular enforcer sweeps, a trooper or enforcer will gun down the mutie but not hit the panic button the way an experienced Guard Trooper would on seeing a Hybrid since he just doesn't recognise what he's dealing with. Then you've got the tainted humans who can go about in public and do the cults grocery shopping while the more twisted members hold up in the undercity or Hive no-go zones till more human looking progeny surface... As long as no cult member does anything stupid like give birth in the local Sisters Order Hospitaller mission they can probably hide more or less indefinitely

I figure Genestealers are much smarter, too. Xenomorphs are limited to cunning, Genestealers are apparently quite capable of advanced planning. Even if one of them attacked a Xenomorph, and died in the bloodsplosion, they'd come up with ways around it, assuming the hive fleet didn't just slap acid resistance on its genestealers in the future, just to be safe. Plus, we all know Xenomorphs are terribly weak to construction equipment, on a primordial rock-paper-scissors level, and Genestealers are proficient with construction equipment.

My favorite faction easily, mixing all sorts of things I love. The working class miner theme The cthulhu-esque cults The gameplay mixes elements of space hulk into 40k and the surprising delicacy of which you have to direct the armies. It's a xeno army that can ally a *Baneblade* into it. Really happy they're getting more content, I honestly hope they stick around and become a mainstay because it adds some real variety to the armies while sticking to that grim dark feel.

@@Baldermort ..Yep...I have watched a few battle Reports with Genestealer cults... they are absolutely a sneaky glass cannon army, hitting hard on the 'ambushing' charges or dying Horribly easly if their charges fail...wbich is fun but risky...So instead... I'm still 'tinkering' (remodeling and repainting) and evolving my tactics for the 'other' purple monsters of 40K instead..my Emporer Children army... ...which has 40 Noise Marines, 8 spawn, 6 mutilators, 3 Oblitorators, plus 5 characters (Jump pack lord and Jump pack sorcerer, Master of possesed, warpsmth, dark chaplin) which is a 'hordish ' as I could get my force without cultists and deamons ( who failed to impress me the past, even if that was in 7th ed)...and atleast when my Noise Marines die...they still get to shoot again..which is fun..

Baldemort, I am loving your content. Discovered it a week ago and your dulcet tones have accompanied me throughout the painting of several units. Firstly, I got an advert just as the guardsman "pulled the trigger", a Compare the Market one that had Aleksei shouting "YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS" which was a tonal shift 😂 made me chuckle. It drives me crazy that the GC are infected Imperials, but yet they have access to tactical vehicles that the Imperium doesn't have like the dudes on bikes or the Dune buggy. And one would think that the Imperium would have come up with some kind of scanner to reveal the gross little bastards.

I may be wrong, as I am pretty new to 40K, but the Imperium doesn't seem to have an environment that encourages rapid technological advancement. Heck, they hardly know how to build their best weapons. I really can't understand how the Imperium has lasted this long.

@@hammond1994 all the equipment is stuff the Imperium produces. The GC just adapt some mining and civilian vehicles to their needs. And I get why the IG don't use a dump truck, but the Dune buggy and dirt bike should be available to them.

Hammond brother Hammond, you are spot on. Before the return of Guilliman tech was disappearing. Spot on! How does the Imperium survive? Size. It’s so huge, it’s warriors so fanatical, that it’s going to be difficult to tear down by any one faction. If they all joined? Ouch. But things are moving forward fast fir the first time ever in the history of warhammer. We simply have no idea where it’s going now that they are moving the period forward. Lots to look forward to. :).

Agreed that it has grown bigger than they could have hoped... I mean they are now in a very serious position with the enviable ability to greatly monetize not just the game and it's supporting pieces... But, the surge of popularity is very much focused upon The world, stories, characters and setting of Warhammer 40k itself (in my opinion to a greater degree than the game currently). They are in the driver's seat to profit unimaginably from the continued progression of both current age 42nd millennium plot, and the further detailed storytelling of the 30k lore plots (Horus heresy, siege of terra, scouring, etc... plus looping back and fleshing out all of the unification wars, great crusades, and The Emperor's reunification with each of his galaxy scattered primarch's....) The only caveat I have... is GW, is really going to have to abandon their old ways of things spending 5, 10, 15 years without any significant timeline/lore progression. Of all traits of the Imperium to emulate, how could they land upon its institutionalized systemic & debilitating stagnation... that shit not only won't cut it anymore, it will in quick order bring all of this sudden, fascination, and ravenous interest into the whole 40k setting to a grinding, and business crippling consumer exodus. The new fans encompassing the vast majority of this new influx I'd reckon are not the "please sirs, give me some more!" After being kicked in the face time after time style of fan like they are used to... I'd also wager, they also aren't going to be necessarily getting all that involved (no long-term, if at all) into the actual table-top game side of things... the extensive, amazing lore of WH40k by way of net vids being their gateway into 40k, and not other 40k players at a hobby shop... GW needs to get their shit together to capitalize on this lightning in a bottle situation they've fallen ass-first into... Otherwise, it'll evaporate before their eyes, to a detriment to the company overall, due to the perceived dejection of "missing out" on truly striking when the proverbial iron was wreathed in flame...

ffejpsycho I agree with 99% of this, brother. The only thing I would state is that it was previously a campaign setting, not a free flowing narrative. They did not have to move the story forward as it was just a campaign setting. Now? I agree. If they don’t move the story forward in meaningful ways then it may well collapse. The constant over hype of actual ‘nothing’ events gets grating. The psychic awakening is all well and good but at the end of each tale it basically goes full circle back to zero change and zero progression. I doubt they have the vision to move forward. I hope they do, but they are in constant fear of moving so far that it moves away From it’s core appeal. Which would end it. It’s a very difficult line to walk. I would love to see them pull it off and make Warhammer the new start wars in size and scope and popularity, but I simply don’t think they can. It’s possibly a bridge to far for what is, quintessentially a model company. Time will tell I guess. :).

I was more referring to there need to alter forthcoming decisions, and just contrasted it with the way it was done before being no longer in my opinion a viable approach anymore. And just likening it to narrative stagnation as a easy way of describing just how radically they need to change it all up... Like almost a complete 180 paradigm shift (in narrative progression terms only, certainly not a radical set or setting "reboot" for lack of a better term). From a corporate perspective that reboot-like option would seem very tempting, but would ultimately be catastrophic way of going about seizing upon their sudden stock rise. Please I hope they are not of that mindset like every corporate complex historical world IP owners seem to be stricken with... Forgetting what built this perfect storm of popularity and gut it's very soul in that ever tantalizing lust for the eternally growing "wider" audience... the audience that only exists in projection reports, and upper management hype proposals... I do however think they have it in them.... they are off to a acceptable start, with Roboute's return, Cadia's destruction, plague wars, etc... (PRIMARIS, i feel is a purely hand wavy, nebulous and kinda greedy way of just arbitrarily going no no no now we have like sooper space marines, instead... why? Shut up and start painting!) That crap is unnecessary, frustrating, and really just not terribly productive for WH40K's future... narratively, marketability wise, tabletop fostering wise, pretty much across the board it's such a uninspired act...

i am just getting into the model collecting scene and one of the biggest problems i had with the warhammer factions was that i just didn't find them interesting . i started with space wolves but as soon as i got the first little set i found out they were fazing out space wolves for primaris. so i gave up on them. All the other factions were either chaos which i just find uninteresting or they haven't had a new model release in a while. However genestealer cults take one of my favorite factions and basically give them a revolutionary/espionage/Cosmic horror vibe which i just love too much to pass up. This video is just done so well i think it sealed the deal. all hail the patriarch
