Everything he said is correct ... I’m new to the whole light/laser thing so this was my first buy thinking it was a good deal. Which I think overall it is just the laser doesn’t hold zero cab moves quite often not major amounts you will still most likely hit your target but it’s annoying. Are all light/ laser lights like this?? Such as surefire, streamlight? Guess they all have pros and cons but I don’t like that it will not always stay exactly on ZERO but the light is small and bright !!

Lasers aren’t for precise accuracy for long range shots, it’s sufficient enough for self defense shooting tho. That being said the light does have a tiny tiny up and down play at the sliding mechanism, not the mount itself. It doesn’t effect much of accuracy for its intended purpose. However if you are ocd like me, just two small stripes of painters tape on top the teeth of the sliding mechanism and it is solid as a rock.

Thanks for tuning in man! For sure. My other beefs were that you can't find holsters for it yet. The same holsters for the former mini (light only) won't fit, the charger doesn't work with any of my other Olight products (I have a lot) and I constantly had to take it off my carry gun each day... Zero on the laser constantly moved on me (and I enjoy being precious with a handgun) so adjusting it with the tiny allen wrench got old after the tenth time in a few days. I could see this potentially being good for a shotgun, but the operation would be awkward on a side rail mount, so even for shottys, I would go with the vakyrie pro (w laser if that's your thing) and the extended activation switch attachment. Good suggestion on the painter's tape for lock up btw! I bet that'll really help out fans of this unit with the same issue, so I hope they see your comment. Stay safe out there!

5 Minute Knives I totally understand your points, new products usually take time for aftermarket supports, I think a few company have started making holsters for it. As of now I’m putting this light on my bedside gun. For my carry gun I don’t have a light on it only night sights. I enjoy my carry gun being light weight and easily concealable, I think most of the time in a self defense situation you won’t have time to turn on the laser or light. Thanks for your reply man, keep up with the good work. 👍

Once you find your desired forward/backwardness of the flashlight on the rail, there are two screws on top of the rail that locks the flashlight in place so it doesn’t wobble. Idk if this is on the mini but it was on the baldr S

I have a couple of these - one on a 365XL with an XL tactical rail adapter ftrom Tactical Development and on an FN509 Tactical. Yes it is a total PITA to get holsters but for the XL with the rail adapter it wasn't that hard to find holster makers. Detroit Holster, Watchdog Tactical and McKina Tec all make Baldr Mini fits, and there's probably more now. What bites is how long they take to make them. To be fair Detroit Holster and Watchdog Tactical shipped inside 2 weeks. Stability and return to zero are good IF you mount it on the 2nd picatinny notch - not the first, and run the light pushed up to the front of the trigger gard. That appears to be important... The laser is really only for maybe a 6" circle at 10 yards or center mas at 50 to 75 feet. On both my guns I just zero the laser to be 2 inches under the iron sight's point of aim at about 25 - 30 feet. I bought the lights for the white light. The laser is just an extra - useful for just a couple scenarios - reaching around cover/concealment and putting the dot on target with minimal exposure or firing close range at a target without signaling "gun" by raising the weapon into visibility when aligning the sights. Both scenarios are last-ditch situations to be sure. Battery run time is fine. It's not meant to be used as a flashlight. I carry an EDC light for general use anyway. When used for target identification prior to using a weapon they work fine. Just curb any expectations on the laser as its best used under limited circumstances.

What a lucid, well-thought out response... Who let you on youtube?! haha Agreed and agreed. Mine was a dud I think. These guys are acting like I made a negative video on a lemon I got just to hurt there feelings. lol I really love the valkyrie pro on my czp10c and I use the Baldr pro with red laser on my shotty. I really don't mind the extra size and prefer the toggle switches on those, plus they work with my existing chargers and cr123a batteries respectively. Holsters... I know, right? I'm actually restarting my holster business (used to have a kydex company years ago) this holiday season, so I should be all set once I collect all the appropriate molds and whatnot. Anyway, appreciate you tuning in and actually putting some thought behind your response. A rarity these days. Stay safe out there!

I have found that no matter how tight the lever is adjusted, the unit is always loose. The trick is to layer a couple pieces of masking tape on top of the unit before you slide it back onto the attachment bracket. The tape is essentially acting as a shim to get rid of the gap between the two parts. The attachment bracket should now have significant resistance to sliding or wiggling once the tape is in the right place. Mine holds zero now. It did not without getting rid of that “slop” between the main unit and the bracket. Should you have to figure out how to “fix” the problem? No. But it’s not hard.

@@5MinuteKnives thanks. I have too much time in my hands with the Rona hideousness and I like the puzzle of figuring out how to fix stuff. Alignment and keeping laser true is a problem on EVERY weapon mounted light I've ever purchased. They all have their shortcomings weather it be bumping it, faulty or not so tight set screws and rail mounting systems to name a few. I personally am not shooting competition with my laser lights and as long as I'm within an inch or two at self defense distances I guess I'm ok or I can always go to those dreaded and cumbersome sights atop my weapon. As far as I know their are only 2 types of charging cables that Olight currently utilizes which is the reverse polarity you mentioned for all of their PL series and Baldr rechargeable weapon lights and then the regular magnetic chargers for all of their other tactical and handheld lights. They do have newer advanced smart chargers of this latter mentioned that come with their newer high capacity lights that will automatically adjust the charging output and they will also charge the older lower capacity lights as well (oh yeah I forgot about the small micro charge cable that plugs into the keychain lights that plugs into it like a phone charger). But basically all you need to carry in your EDC/Go Bag are two basic magnetic chargers for all of your Olight weapon or handheld lights. Very convenient IMHO.
@5MinuteKnives
@5MinuteKnives 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly...except I don't just use Olight products... I have both the other chargers and (now 16) olight products. The polarity on this one is different. But you hit the nail on the head. I'm not big into lasers on handguns period. I do, however, have the BALDR pro with red laser on my shotgun. I like that it takes cr123 batteries and the laser holds true enough on my long gun for home defense. For handguns, I'll stick to the Vakyrie pro and using my sites. Thanks for tuning in!

I found very secured lasers to be great on 3" barrel handguns. Like the SIG P938. I have the PL Valkyrie Pro & the PL Valkyrie Mini 2 & that mini 2 moves all over when I press the actuator. I don't see the Baldr Mini holding zero at all. My Sheriff Dep. Buddy has been running my PL Valkyrie Pro for duty use for almost a year now & he loves it! I got it for $84 sale price, came with rifle attachment/ pressure pad, etc. So he can pop it off his pistol & on his patrol AR as needed. (No need for 2 lights) He's had all the "high dollar" lights out there but when he seen how powerful the Pro was? He was sold, I can't get it back! House clearing is a breeze but he said it lights up a Forest! I can attest to that. Rechargeable for him is a plus & simple. He just plugs it into his Units Computer USB Port for a charge & he's good for all night. Plus the Pro fits all his Streamlight TLR-1 HL Holsters

I have both the BALDR Pro and BALDR Mini. Both clamp levers have that "wonkiness" you mention. Doesn't mean anything and that slack can be taken up with the adjustment screw on the other side, since not all rails are the same exact width. My mini clamps on solidly out of the box to my HK P30L with no play. The lack of smoothness of the rail adjustment on the Mini works to keep it from sliding when you have it clamped as those "teeth" are there for a reason - a little bit of firm force positions it where you want it. Not sure what your point is about the allen wrenches doe laser windage and elevation. They're on my scopes and red dots and even sighting systems utilizing slotted screws require a micro screwdriver. If your out in the field and need to adjust, either way, you'll require a special tool. As for effectiveness of shooting with the laser on both the BALDR Mini and Pro check out The Honest Outlaw clanging those plates in the dark during his reviews. Impressive talent meets impressive gear. No issues.... 👍 Thanks for the review! ⚔

Did you get the part where my laser jumped around when it was bumped? Or in the comments where others had the same wuality controls issues? Yup, I tightened the adjustment screw (didn't help). I also talked about how the charger doesn't work with my other olight products but looks identical, or how I couldn't find holsters for my setup? Just the valkyrie pro review I just put up (today) as a response to this one. I've never seen such devotion to a cheap chinese-made product with quality issues before. I just got mine, so I haven’t had any range time to speak to accuracy/consistency of the laser. As for the charger being different: that is because they had to use a smaller battery with different charging requirements. The normal charger would over-charge/damage the battery. So they reversed the polarity on the magnets to avoid accidentally using the wrong charger.

But now that I got it I wish I did a long time ago, I don’t think any light out there looks better on a Glock 19 especially. Many stick out way past barrel like 17 length & many are bulky. Especially with my rail being mlok other than on the top. Even the Baldr is too wide!, & who needs a laser on any gun! It’s dumb your better off with a red &/or green dot sight, that only you can see if you really want a laser sight. I mean maybe if you play paintball or air soft, but in no real life situation would I want a laser, if I’m giving my position away I’d rather it be a super illuminating if not blinding light that reveals my target & it’s backdrop & if I’m lucky temporarily messes their vision up to get my shot(s) off & then turn off & move to a new position (preferably cover). Anyway that’s obviously just (my current) opinion, not fact... I could change my opinion based on new info.

I’m tempted to order another Valkyrie pl mini 2 for my AR pistol now, instead of going w/ the common way of mounting a bulkier weapon light taking up space, the possibility of another item getting hung up on something, I’d imagine most typical flashlight size & shape weapon lights + mounts = more weight (just not sure if it’s significant enough to notice), & limited rail space on my 10.5 inch mlok anyway because I’d like to have my light mounted on the bottom of the rail & after added Magpul handstop kit, that ate up the entire bottom rail! I’m trying to think of something that’s practical & convenient & (yes, I’ll admit I care) doesn’t look ridiculous! & having to have a pressure pad or have it in akward position. I’m wondering if the Valkyrie is low profile enough to be mounted on top rail & not interfere with my scope. Preferably my front flip up iron either, took my back flip up iron off cuz it couldn’t flip up anyway after I mounted my scope. I know this video is about Baldr but... Thoughts?

I can appreciate your comments. My experience with the baldr mini have been different so far. I haven't had any significant zero shifts, but I never take the light off the gun as I see no need/point to remove it. This one lives on my edc g30 and has about 500 .45 rounds down pipe so far with no issues. Time will tell i supppse I'm fortunate that I make my own holsters, so no problem finding one. Have you ever tried making your own holster, it is much easier than you would think and allows you to truly customize your carry to your body. Ive also been known to buy a holster for a totally different gun/light combo and hit it with my heat gun and reshape it to my needs. Where there is a will there is a way.

Funny you mention it, I'm actually relaunching my own holster company soon (moving into a bigger space next week) but I didn't have my shop set up. Check out my review of the Becker BK5 (I made that sheath). Hitting an already made kydex holster with the heat gun creates glossing, which isn't my favorite thing to do. (I have to take pics of most of my gear for our 5 Minute Knives Instagram page.) I also keep the Olight Valkyrie PL pro on my carry gun, which I already have several holsters for. I prefer that light much more over this one, so I wasn't going to go through all that trouble for a system I wasn't gonna keep. There's plenty of folks who have had the same issues as myself (even in the comments of this video) so that isn't a great sign. I also didn't like how my previous Olight chargers wouldn't work on this one (We now have 16 Olight products in the house so charging time needs to stay simple.) I don't really care how others spend their money, so if it works for you, awesome! Appreciate you tuning in...
@DmakOutdoors
@DmakOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
@@5MinuteKnives I can dig. FYI, (if you didn't already know) the reason that the chargers have to be different is due to charging rates. Most of your olights use a lithium ion battery that takes a pretty high charge rate to juice up, where the pl mini series lights use a custom lithium polymer battery due to its small size. The higher charge rate would burn up the battery on the pl min lights so they had to reverse the polarity to protect the batteries from exploding while charging. I know its a pain but it makes sense. As for glossing my kydex, I'm a function over form kind of guy, could careless what the final looks like as long as it is comfy and functional, but i don't sell anything or advertise so I can understand why you wouldn't want to. I can agree that the pl pro is an awesome light. I keep one on my truck gun and have been extremely impressed: its brighter and has a smaller footprint than my Scout lights and was less than half the price with a remote switch

I will say that I'll take the Valkyrie Pro (no laser) over this one any day and even the BALDR pro (laser but battery charged) for my shotgun no problem. So junk? That's a little harsh. You're a bit off topic, but the security 9 looks like a great gun. The "pre-cocked" double action trigger pull freaked me out a bit for appendix carry and I like a longer sight radius but I think it's a great budget option. (I also like the Taurus G2C.) @@5MinuteKnives Well buddy, I guess we gotta agree to disagree on this one then, I love the look of it and it freaking lights up my whole yard when pitch black at night, and as far as you wiggling the the crank around of course it does until you clamp it down, then neither the crank or light/laser moves at all on mine, so maybe the security-9 just has the perfect rail for it, that being said, I don't like how you're talking about the light comes out beyond the barrel on the pro, so to each their own on preferences, how much did you sell it for, i would of went for another actually. I agree that finding a quality padded IWB holster are none. I purchase a Works holster and is not comfortable for me to wear. The Sneaky Pete holster works for my Glock 19 with the light & laser. I never remove the light/laser from my pistol. Why would you? Charging works very well for me.
@5MinuteKnives
@5MinuteKnives 3 жыл бұрын
Because I got it for my carry gun... and carry it everyday. Hence the holster issue. Charging does work well, unless you have 15 other olight products that use different chargers... like this one does. The laser on mine would move if I even bumped it, so it didn't matter if I took it off or not. I could literally push on it and change zero easily. That's why I got rid of it so quickly. I use the Valkyrie pro for my carry piece and kobrakydex makes great (affordable) holsters for that set up...
