Raphael coming to my house and I’m not sure if Im delighted or terrified. In a different version of the ending he talks about his next chance for the crown being in another millennia and says ‘you will be gone,’ heavily implying that he will get the crown after the player, not Tav, is dead. He is so deliciously creepy.

Idk what's sadder this dialogue or the one where he sacrificed himself and says "How fortunate I was, to know someone like you" like my god. I don't think we talk about how well written Gale is. Like he may seem like he is overly flirty if you aren't romancing him but that is just his awkward charm if anything else. If you are romancing him, it's like a rabbit hole. Gale might be the most romantic character out of the party (at least to me) he does everything so grand for you to show you he loves you which makes him dying so sad. I love this damn game 😭

Yes I got into the gmae throught Astarion and Karlach clips and when I forst made my party I hadd those 3 in it. During the gameplay I thought he was funny and a little flirty so I pause my save and made a new for him and I instantly fell for his charms. You get that dialogue if your affinity with him is high, but you guys are just friends. He also has to not choose to become a god. Like let him blow himself up and when you got talk to his projection and choose the "Hug him" option and he'll say that line. It kills me every time. 😭@@ImElliePaige

I think the requirements to get an ending like this is either finishing the game without completing his personal quest and/or not allowing him to have the book of Karsus in his inventory up until the ending. I wasn’t sure at first but after going through the game my Gale was alive & present as a God and even offered my Durge a seat alongside him in the heavens (If you romance him) By skipping out on his personal quest or by not having the annals of Karsus on hand, Gale isn’t properly educated on reforging the crown nor will he be proficient enough in the actual Ascension rituals, not having the proper info results in a shoddy developed ritual; with in-proper insulation (So to speak) combined with Potent energies of the Crown will destabilize the Orb within his chest, detonating while he’s in the process of divine ascension.

I like the end I got for Gale. He gives up the crown to Mystra and becomes a teacher. He seem truly happy. In my end the only companion that dont sound very Happy is Karlach. Cant have everything I guess.

But Raphael accepts it, cuz he knows what Ambition is all about and that it will lead to a Catastrophic War between Gods. So in Raphael's words: When Heaven and the Gods fall, he will take the crown from its Ashes.

I think this is leaving Raphael alive. If you promised him the crown. Gale will still become God but Raphael could not get to the crown because it is within Gale's domain.

Yeah, I'm not sure what triggers this. I had the deal with Raphael and Gale became a god even though I passed a Persuasion Check during the final bit to tell him to not do it. And his tressym still lectured me about setting him on the path to godhood. I TRIED OKAY MA'AM. Maybe I just did too many "well it's your choice" options leading up to it. But stuff felt a bit buggy during my final sequences so who knows.

@@humandoodad Yeah, the ending is definitely a little bugged. In mine Minsc had been captured by the Zhents after they took over the underground even though I helped Nine Fingers slaughter them all in spectacular fashion, so I was a little annoyed that they did my boy dirty.

2:35 I don't quite remember how I got this ending in my last playthrough. Gale and my Tav had a rather good relationship with one another- completely platonic by the way. But in the end after defeating the Netherbrain, he was still hellbent on going after the crown after it fell into the water. I broke the contract between Raph and I so he couldn't get the crown, so my ending was a little different to this one the way it played out wise. But my point is: I accidentally failed a dice roll to convince him to give the crown to mystra (I don't remember how to get that option in the post-deafeated netherbrain conversation, because the playthrough i did AFTER that playthrough I got different dialogue options, even with the same relationship status. But I digress. I pretty much failed to convince him to give it to Mystra, and he got all salty and said that I didn't believe in him yada yada, which, fair enough, I was practically telling him to give up lmao. So yeah Gale just completely disregards all that we, including our party had gone through to get to the final endgame and saunters off to go and either find the crown or make a new one on his own? I don't remember what it was, but it's either of those. So then comes the epilogue party, where I see a hologram of Gale rather than his physical self. Why? He's dead, the hologram states, just as this video shows. It was the same outcome but for different circumstances I believe (and here I am remembering the "17000 endings to baldur's gate"). This part in particular broke me; not being able to hug gale as a final goodbye, and even seeing that, although it's a pre-recorded sort of hologram, it still portrays that sorrow after failing to comfort Tav and give them a hug. I couldn't wrap my head around this part man. I love gale, and hearing word from a hologram that he was dead just h u r t. And the LOOK ON TAV'S FACE WHEN HE SAID THOSE FINAL WORDS BRAH. "And to think godhood was worth losing all of this" NAHHHH this shit had me SOBBING. and the letter bro, don't even get me started

You have the option to essentially skip the final boss fight when Gale is with you and have him blow up after sending you away.

I just played through my epilogue after finishing the game a few months ago and I have to say... there could not have been a more perfect ending for me. Throughout my game, Gale was something of a philosophical rival to my character, we'd get into many arguments and often didn't see eye to eye, and in the end I was unable to convince him to drop his megalomaniacal quest for power. It was a bittersweet yet fitting ending to this version of Gale to hear that very quest has become his downfall in the end as my character tried to warn him it would... And just as I thought I'd seen the last of what this campaign had to offer me... that bonus post credits scene. Now, I dealt with Raphael for the hammer but went to the house of hope to betray him and kill him, so I don't know if it's a bug that I got this ending or not, but personally I love it. It makes sense for a character like him to be difficult to truly kill I think, and him being alive in the end and in possession of the crown is the perfect narrative foil to my character who believed herself to have come out on top over every adversary she faced with no consequences to the risks she took throughout her journey... It all just fit together so perfectly I jumped out of my chair in excitement.

Raphael would like to talk a big game but even if he isn’t fully dead, his “death” will cause him more suffering and anguish as he’s demoted and tossed into a pit that he’ll have to claw & bite his way through if he ever wants to get close to the level of power he once had

Becoming a god isn’t the issue. Plenty of mortals have done this. None of them as great of a wizard as Karsus was. (At least I think.) Karsus’ biggest mistake was trying to usurp Mystral who IS all magic. Usurping Mystra was the worst possible outcome for Karsus because when she died, it was not possible to take her place. If he had ascended to become the god of ambition or learning or anything else, it probably would have worked. Gale learned from the mistake in the ending where he doesn’t try to usurp mystra and get backhanded.

In my play through I'd have killed Gale before letting him repeat that mistake, but I'm not judging anyone for role playing their own choices I'm just preparing to play a Netherese Wizard descendant in my groups next D&D game so the idea of any Wizard doing this is nearly offensive, nearly; I might have to try it in a play through.

Deal with Raphael to get Hammer for Crown + Convincing Gale to took crown (probably talk after Mystra that he should take crown for himself). But even if he wants to give Mystra crown, then Raphael kills him. Its just result of deal with raphael + talking crown. Idk what happened if you tell him to ignore crown. Anyway, not make deals with devils. I recommend to visit his House of Hope

I half expected his explosion in this one to be caused by trying to usurp Mystra instead of becoming the god of ambition, but that isn’t made clear here.

I went back and did my final battle for my first playthrough real quick. Gale went god mode, I pretty much threw astarion and lae'zel in the corner so she went on to be a diplomat apparently and astarion is just scared of the vampie boi i didnt feel like killing. me n shadowheart went to have a farm, wyll is a hero, and karlach is dead as hell. what a bittersweet ending

@@elenalizabeth For Karlach to live you have to send someone WITH her and you're only options are the player character (which could also be any of the origins) or blade of avernus wyll. So if you free wyll from his pact and don't romance karlach her only options are explode or mindflayer. I don't know why Karlach's endings are worse than just about everyone else's.

Dude, what exactly is raphael talking about tbh? That crown is strong. Do the devs not know the lore of D&D, a god isn't the strongest thing in D&D, and gods can be challenged, and there are varying degrees of power in god types, like one greater deity could be FAR stronger than another greater deity for example. But how strong can It really make you? Clearly more than a demigod, perhaps, a lesser deity? An intermediately deity? Maybe, but I doubt it. Maybe a greater deity at extreme most, but that is pushing it, HARD, to ridiculous degrees. Asmodeus is a greater deity, and demogorgon was literally able to fight and dominate all of the abyss, and all the other demon lords (who have been known to challenge all levels of gods and at least threaten but lose/rival/win battles againt them) alone. Known to be one of the strongest beings in creation before he even became a deity, it was said at one point he made the heavens and all the gods in them tremble as he's one of the few came the closest to conquering/destroying all life. He became a deity being so strong that he literally started getting worshipped multiverse wide that it gave him a divine template (intermediate deity, aswell devouring the queen of chaos for her divine portfolio, and he was wiping god tier beings before he even got that) So yeah, that crown isn't gonna do as much as you think it will for you, sure you'll step over most of the players in the universe, you'll be a force to be reckoned with, and be monumentally more powerful, maybe even take over a non-contested plane of existence on the abyss. But you aren't taking over all the nine hells, and you aren't taking on Asmodeus, let alone all of the nine hells and the 8 other arch devils, he's gonna backhand you and curb stomp you.

You’re trying to look at this objectively. Which I feel is the wrong approach. Raphael isn’t telling you what is going to happen. He’s telling you what he expects to happen. But he is proud and arrogant. That makes him likely to overlook things. He also has an incentive to lie to us after all, we went back on his deal. Now, Raphael might actually believe everything he’s telling us and not just trying to scare us. But as you said, he will get in over his head very quickly. After all, in real life, how many kings, emperors, and generals thought they were immortal and unbeatable until reality hit them like a bullet?
