@@rantalmore, still, some build are nice for personal story telling,- I really want to give Wyll something of valor beside his Pact, so maybe some levels in Paladin would fit him? And it also appears to be a powerful build, incendently. Same for Gale, a bit lame, so necromancy for a bit of spice? Etc...I mostly use mutliclassing to tell myself some additional stories about our party. (And for my MC too, of course) It also helps, as a beginner, to turn the tide in your favor... Can't play in story mode, as I rather enjoy playing with multiclass (mostly to tell stories and learn the different mechanisms)- but you just can't do it (for now? Let's hope for Patch 1?) I started Draconic White Sorcerer for Armor of Agathys & Constitution saves and multi into Tempest Cleric allows me to use Heavy Armor and Shield. I'm maining a similar build in my playthrough but i went Tempest Cleric for the lightning retaliation and guaranteed max damage rolls with Glyph of Warding: Lightning being my main damage dealer. Just carry a bunch of bottled waters and prepare Create Water spell to double damage. A wet target is taking double damage from all your abilites Armor of Agathys / Lightning Retaliation / Shocking Grasp / Glyph of Warding. An upcasted Armor of Agathys along with camp casted Aid stacks Arcane Ward up so fast it's kinda crazy. Warding Bond is another great level 2 Cleric abjuration spell that makes your squishy blaster take way less damage if the enemies don't want to cooperate and target you. Spirit Guardians is old reliable when the enemy simply refuses to melee you. Wizard scribing Fire Shield: Cold is just the icing on the cake that i didn't think i would have access to pre launch with a Sor 1 / Tempest 6 / Abjuration 5 but BG3 homebrew Wizard scribing gave me access to full Wizard spell list which was chef's kiss.

There's another neat trick for such a tank build: in act 1 you can get a pair of boots (The Watersparkers) which electrify any water you stand in. I finally see someone talk about this ive been playing it too and its a ton of fun. Going into warlock might also be a good idea since lvl 2 warlock gives you invocation and if you take armor of shadows it lets you cast mage armor at will. this way you can restore the ward to full between combats. all you need to do is remove your armor before you start spamming mage armor out of combat and then put your armor back on after you are done. this takes a 2 lvl investment into warlock instead so its your choice if its worth it for you or not. the other major buff you can have is warding bond, which requires you to have an actual cleric in your party and takes their concentration, however giving you resistance to ALL damage is nothing to scoff about.

If going lock 2 i would suggest to skip both cleric and sorc. You do want the 10 "avaiable" lvls full in wizard otherwise you will lose the abjuration capstone that is even more important if you have lock2 since it makes short rest more powerful.
@Thoth728
@Thoth728 Жыл бұрын
@@christophertherians2243 i agree you dont need the sorc level but i would still keep the cleric level. heavy armor and shield proficiency is massive for a frontline wizard, and the bonus action attack is just the cherry on top. you dont need the abjutation capstone by going to 2 lvls in warlock because all that does is increase the intensity of the ward to equal your wizard level every time you short rest. you already have max ward stacks between combats, with that feature you simply start higher to begin with. i would say that if that increases your cap instead then its definitely worth the capstone but i dont think thats how it works.

A couple of suggestions: *Take your first level in sorc. It has natural proficiency in con, which means you’ll be even better at passing your con checks. Give your wizard the Mourning Frost staff and use the “chilled” flame ward and the frost glyph of warding. You do extra cold damage due to the staff and you might inflict “chilled” which makes enemies vulnerable to frost damage. (Which means double damage for free) The shield of scorching reprisal is good for a wee bit of extra damage when they miss hitting you. You can also add snowburst ring and disintegrating night walkers; to give you the chance to knock everything prone on ice, while you remain upright.

great build. had my own version of this which improves on certain things you do: 1. went with tempest over war for wrath of the storm to maximize my reaction use when there are no enemy casters/archers. 2. i only used shield vs. ranged attackers. i wanted to get hit by melee attackers. 3. i minimized ac bonuses from equipment aside from those that also confer dmg reduction like heavy armor. I wanted to get hit. 4. picked up heavy armor master instead of warcaster for more dmg reduction. 5. went with int 15+2, con 15+1, 14 wis, dex 10, str and cha 8 6. used create water vs. melee enemies to double agathys/cold shield dmg. ditto for glyph of warding dmg. 7. started with white draconic sorc for the con save prof. 8. went with duergar for dwarven resilience (poison resistance).gold dwarf or strongheart halfling would've been fine too. correct me if i'm wrong but fire and poison seem to be the 2 most common dmg types enemies use in the game. this racial bonus covers poison while create water covers fire resistance. superior darkvision is nice too. 9. used shocking grasp instead of melee attacks to take advantage of making enemies wet when i didnt need to use my actions to use glyph of warding. 10. i made use of find familiar raven to attack archers/casters to blind them which minimized the need to use shield/counterspell in some fights.

I might break this build down differently and go Tempest Cleric 2/Draco Sorc 1/Abj Wiz 9. You start off with sorc to get the con saving through proficiency, and you get the heavy armor proficiency with tempest cleric the next level. Tempest cleric also lets you get Destructive Wrath so you can do max damage with lightning and Thunder spells every now and then. This lets you focus more on your spells as your offense and defense instead of doing mediocre attacks with a melee weapon. You could also take like 2 points out of CON and put them somewhere else since you’re barely getting hit. And you can help make up for the hp loss by going a race like the Gold Dwarf. You could go sorc 2 for some sorcery points and meta magic, but I feel like they’re not as important as the proficiency bonus and arcane recovery charge you get at level 9. Just my take on this but a great concept nonetheless!

I almost cleared out the house of grief just by walking around with my oc and gale who i made a second version of this build since he starts as a wizard and just needed the cleric and sorcerer extra. There were way too many of them to actually achieve it at that level i was at, but near the end i sped it up by joining the battle with the 2 druid companions max level aoe. However the build is hard to utilize when others allies are part of the battle, cause these builds will make the enemy not target them. Also, triggering opportunity attacks is really efficient because those generally dont deal that much damage, and you can fully negate it with a high enough ward stack

Really cool build. I think I might give it a try. I'd go with tempest domain for the cleric level in order to get wrath of the storm. It gives you another source of retribution damage as a reaction. I'd also take the sorcerer level first to get proficiency in constitution saves to make keeping concentration easier. While you wouldn't normally get heavy armor by multiclassing, cleric is a bit special because heavy armor proficiency is a feature of the subclass rather than the class itself, so you still get heavy armor by taking the cleric level after 1st. I'd love to find a way to fit spirit guardians into the build somehow in order to put up a damaging aura that doesn't require being hit, but I can't justify taking that many cleric levels on this build.

honestly im loving the elemental theme so i think i would actually go half elf like you did for the firebolt cantrip, frost ray, shocking grasp, poison shot, and acid shot with than of course, i would keep chromatic orb instead of magic missile even tho its good just so you can have higher power spell versions really fitting into the theme of a mage not very capable of attack magic but equally skilled in at least all forms and more imporantly, VERY skilled in defensive magic and even applying offensive magic to their defensive magic in a way many other mages wouldnt even think of doing :D

I am doing this build from lv1 to currently lv6. At lv6 I feel finally started to feel powerful, like a very good tank. My health never drops below half. However, lv1-lv4 were the worst, i was useless. But at lv6 with proficiencies to master heavy, and 3-lv3-spellslots its actually good. If you find right scrolls to learn you can use haste and seal. Illithid powers with gityanki perk to use them as secondary action really help. Also at gityanki camp there is most useful item was sold, a blue mace that gives -1dm and gives AC +1. Adamantine armour gives -2dm. Adamantine shield 🛡 gives no crits, helmet gives no crits and armor gives no crits. At current setup enemies rarely hit. But its actually fine at lv6 high AC is beneficial. Very flexible build, super fun, but surely is game breaking.

Any thoughts of doing this as a Tempest Cleric as opposed to War Cleric? You gain the Wrath of the Storm reaction to give a little reaction damage on getting hit, like with fire shield later, albeit in the form of electricity. You still get Heavy Armor Prof and Martial Weapon Prof. You can take Shield of Faith as a 1st level Cleric spell as opposed to getting it as a domain spell. It didn't sound like it mattered what else you took at 1st lvl Cleric for spells. Then go the rest of the build the rest of the way. I think the choice of cold damage follows the Sorcerer bloodline theme? But I don't think the bloodline causes those to do more damage since you are only taking one level? Any reason not to double down on electric versions of most everything but Fire Shield? Since you get the Shocking Grasp reaction on an AoO on a target leaving your melee range when taking War Caster feat. So you get reactions to someone leaving your melee range AND on hitting you both as electricity. Plus the damage from your various ward spells like Fire Shield. If you have a party member throw bottles of water on targets, or use that staff that produces water (or spell), all that electricity damage doubles as would cold damage if using the chill version of Fire Shield. Plus there are boots and gloves I have found that build up electricity charges and each charge adds damage equal to the charges to any damage you do. I hear there are more items too along the way. I have a Tempest Cleric/Storm Sorcerer build going in my solo game and found some of the early ones already. Really loving all that lightning synergy. I might have to try this build (respec) once my characters get higher than level 5. Right now my friends and I have two co-op groups going and in one I am doing straight Tempest Cleric. I may respec him soon. He is 4th level now. I was going for tanky, let my friends do all the sneak and spell damage etc, and me using the lightning reaction when getting hit and just swinging away. Use heal magics and shield of faith etc for most spell casting, with the occasional thunder wave or such maximized to get mobs in front of me. This build might be the tanky build I want and pile on the damage with my friends' characters.

You can accomplish this with some cheeky mechanics. Have a hireling respec into level 3 cleric (the rest doesn't matter... though the more hp here the... less you feel a bad what is about to happen to your meat puppet... I mean restored ally and helpful cleric. Skip the whole stoneskin thing, it's a trap. Have your newly acquired hireling cleric to cast Warding bond on your pc. Kick them from the party (don't release them, just have them wait at camp) and now? Well you have a free warding bond where you are taking half to all damage (not just physical attacks) and the hireling will eat the damage at camp. Wait, what happens to them once you've reached twice their threshold in hp? Well, they just die but they are already dead technically, so Withers just keeps them at his feet and the warding bond persists. Just be sure to apologize (or thank them) when you get back, hit them with a revivfy scroll and there you go. Enjoy being even more unkillable.

And standing in darkness with devil's sight can give you better survivability without burning your spell slots. Ranged attacks can't hit, melee have disadvantage and you don't. Let's you actually be capable of dealing damage yourself instead of relying on defensive spells. This build is completely useless when those spell slots run out, which if it actually does its job of being targeted, will be very quickly. Idk, might be fun for some people, but the min/maxer in me thinks I can do better with less complicated things that don't spread stats so much.

You can still do plenty of damage concentrating on smth like Wall of Ice with the staff that inflicts chilled on ice spells while having a bunch of pet ghouls and an elemental. Granted this is not the best DPr build ever by any stretch of the imagination but it can contribute and kill things. You can also reduce damage done to allies if you're not getting hit yourself or just casually stack arcane acuity and be the CC machine while others do the damage. Running out of spell slots is actually not a problem, for reducing your arcane ward by 1 later on someone has to take upwards of 78 cold damage, which is kind of efficient for a single spell level. Plus there are always scrolls if you're ever in a tough spot but frankly tney shouldn't be necessary.

I laughed at 17:30 when he said "If an enemy attacks us, we will not get hit because we have 21 AC"......Yeah, this is true for theory crafting. But in reality, 21 AC gets hit ALL the time in the mid to late game. And furthermore, the hits are pretty substantial..well over the 9hp threshold this build provides. I love ya buddy, but the Monster Hunter World/Rise mentality doesnt work in DnD 5e. This is a very very niche build that just isnt gonna work late game. Sure, you could jack that AC up to 26 with a shield spell. Honestly though, between counter spelling, shielding, and casting the required spells for this combo to work, your gonna be left swinging a limp noodle dick of a weapon. (SPOILER: A certain devil we know has 666HP, not including the minions around him. This build isnt gonna take him down.) This will require a long rest after every single fight, which you could do. But it kinda defeats the purpose of saying its an "awesome build" if you HAVE to hit that long rest button after every single scrap.

@skrappy3387

Totally agree. Not only does it not pack much punch for boss fights, but it also uses a TON of spell slots. Who is struggling against a bunch of random melee enemies enough to design their entire build around it with tons of spell slots used? Just use an AoE spell or two. Also, Magic Missile (especially with the hag amulet) is one of the highest single target DPS spells in the game per spell slot level. It never misses, no save DC, and almost nothing resists force damage.
@MANoob100
@MANoob100 Жыл бұрын
You actually don't want high ac with this, you want enemies to hit you so that they die. You also don't need to burn spell slots fast. If you inflict enemies with wet or chilled (multiple easy ways to do this including a staff that does that on hit with cold spells), at later levels enemies take 78 average cold damage every time they hit you, just to reduce your ward by 1. I'll wait till I see another way to deal 78 damage with a single spell level, eldritch blast notwithstanding. And it doesn't cost us an action. Your ward is reducing damage by up to 20 with full build, add another 2 from armor and then take into account that we'll take half damage from most of the damage types (Armor of persistance, markoheshkir's buff since you can pass it around and get it on everyone anyway, protection from energy), the enemy has to do over 44 damage per hit to scratch us. And it can't be a crit because we'll be immune to crits. I'm pretty sure you can comfortably solo "a certain devil", but just casting wall of ice under him and making him wet or chilled, while he's doing 0 damage to you and taking 78 retaliation back per swing (I'd take ice elemental adept on this).

This channel really loves using the term "Infinite" without actually knowing what that word means it seems. Build also doesn't do as much damage as advertised unless you're soloing, because enemies won't just target a single character. They usually go after the person with the least armor. With high AC too they will miss a lot, which means you're not going to take any damage, which means this engine doesn't do anything, because you won't be returning damage since they missed you. It's a cool gimmick on paper that in practice is a lot of build that amounts to less than just playing something like a pure Sorcerer, or Sorcerer9/Warlock 2/Wizard 1. Too many buffs and turns required to *maybe* do something.
