If you have guidance from the Shadowheart, is because, deep in her heart, knows that the other one is right, Shadowheart is too proud to back down but hopes that you will intervene... I'm writing this before trowing the dice... when you decided to not use her guidance (bad logic, anyway)

Her own doubts were definitely a narratively sound reason for guidance to be made available on that roll. The trouble is though, there was a perfectly reasonable NON skill check dialogue option to hear what The Nightsong had to say. Personally, I would have chosen that option. If only to hear more of the story.

SPOILER - ALTERNATIVE DIALOGUE CHOICES If you actually just trust in her and leave her to make the final choice, she actually falters and doesn't go through with it! NGL I was so shocked at that outcome, I wasn't expecting it at all and was a pleasant surprise.

@@Amethystostdid he recruit as a companion or in his camp? Several sources on the internet, including reputable ones like gamespot, say that to recruit him as a companion you need to complete the quest of the comatose man in the last light inn after Halsin joined your camp.

To get halisin you must finish the grove in a good way then he sits at camp until you meet a man in a coma in last light. This will start a quest line that basically requires you to save thamiel and his other half oliver. To do so you end up fighting the doctor for his lute that can cure thecomatose man in last light. Then theres a few more steps

Wow I can't believe the dice failed you this time. Honestly when I was faced with the Nightsong I asked Shadowheart if this is what she wanted. She said of course it is, but then threatned to kill me if I stood in her way. My DnD character doesn't really believe in religion and felt that Shadowheart was being swayed instead of making her own choices so I ended up putting her out of her misery. Padrig Earthshaker party lost thier Cleric that day...

I'm completely stunned by how different my outcome with Shadowheart was. I managed to stop Shadowheart from killing Nightsong and there is so many cutscenes/dialogue/encounters with Nightsong afterwards that it's crazy to think that so many people didn't see any of it in their playthrough.

@@kpNov23 to make something that is moderately linear feel not at all linear is a feat in and of itself. In the D&D campaign I play in, my DM makes it seem like we stumbled upon this event completely by accident but when I co dm'ed with him (we had a party of 10 PCs) I realized he had everything completely planned out and was so good at guiding his players to the key story notes and having them feel like they did it. In my opinion this is what Larian did with BG3. Of course a story driven game is linear, otherwise there would be no story and just random things to do until you get bored. it is all about scope, how many paths do you have to get to the key story notes, 2, 5, 10, 100? it is this that determines how linear a game feels.

This is crazy to me. I did not kill Nightsong. And so much of the story after that her being alive is very significant. I feel like what happens now in your world is going to be very different than what happened in mine. It's not just a token change here and there. I don't understand what happened with that "navigate the darkness" trial. When I played it, the path turned invisible when any of my characters got close to it. So I had to actually memorize the path and walk carefully. But when you did it the path was visible the whole time. Can't help but wonder if you did something different that caused it or if it was bugged.

It’s a tribute to Larian as to how different two playthroughs can be. I’m playing parallel to this walkthrough as a ranger also but I saved Isobel, rescued the Tieflings, retrieved Thaniel, and spared the Nightsong. It’ll be interesting to see how different things are as we move forward.

The worst part isn't even the blood loss, she keeps slicing open the same wound again and again. That's gotta leave a scar some point, plus the palm of your hand may be symbolic and all but it's a hella impractical place to have a wound. 51:48 "I think we're done" WDYM, lol there was clearly another puzzle there. Oh well... 1:00:13 Damn XD for a second I was thinking he'd be forced to go back and realize his mistake but nope, to be clear I haven't played the game and this is my first time seeing this so for all I know the Orb isn't there either but if I had to guess you get it after finishing some sort of puzzle with the Spear and 4 Plaques, or without the spear or there was a different trial all together because it does seem like the spear would be for later but the plaques were defenitly suspicious it really seemed like there was something else there to solve and defenitly seemed like you missed at least one major loot item, like there was the spear and then there was something to the right and something to the left and you only picked up one of those or including the spear 2/3. But I mean I've noticed throughout the series that he isn't the greatest at puzzles or at least like "visual puzzles and correlation/relations" so I mean that's fine everybody has their own thing that's part of the charm of this kind of game, when sometimes to me stuff like that is immediately obvious like the puzzle at the temple above the Crèche with the weapons and the portraits couldn't have been more clear cut to me whereas to him he spent quite a while figuring it out and was even confused about certain things like why he took damage/fell over when he placed the (from my perspective) "obviously" wrong weapon on the pedestal. Meanwhile if I played through the game there's probably things that I'd get stuck on or miss that might have been obvious to him, heck for example I know practically nothing about the lore apart from what I've heard so far *although* I would probably spend quite a lot of time reading because this is one of those games where reading in game books and story items actually matters. I might not watch this play-through all the way through though for now considering whenever I do buy and play the game for the first time I probably don't want to know the "end game" I don't mind spoilers too much but if you know all the "big plot twist" it does kind of get rid of that "first play-through feeling" Oof lol blaming Gale for you not seeing how you were gonna AOE the nightsong insert *I said: "I cast fireball!"* meme

It’s surprising to me how many people go straight to the mausoleum and don’t *infiltrate* Moonrise to gather *intel*. But I really like stealth sneaky-sneaky stuff so I naturally did that immediately. Since Jaheira says Isobel’s blessing won’t be enough to get close to Moonrise, I didn’t bother talking to her. I went straight to ambush the convoy. So she didn’t die, Last Light was never attacked. I had rescued Halsin in Act 1, so he was at my camp, I told him about the coma guy, etc. Amazing how small choices made in Act 1 can make such a huge difference in Act 2 & 3!

The moment Shadowheart decided to kill Aylin was when I had to break my 'no savescumming' rule. But not because I wanted the situation to end in a different way. It's just that... the game made me do it (kinda). Let me share a story. So, I walked into Shadowfell with the same companions Wolf chose. At that point, I was also pretty far in my romance with Shadowheart. I always disliked her religious fanaticism but I justified it as a coping mechanism that let her survive past her childhood trauma. Something was telling me that she could be fixed. When it came to the conversation, I failed 5 times in a row trying to convince Shadow not to kill Aylin. I was mad, but I thought to myself: 'Okay, I need to accept this. No savescumming on my first run!' When she actually killed Aylin, I was devastated. My lover has become the ultimate Shar fanatic, she did something I couldn't possibly accept. More than that - she seemed dangerous to me (for me the sharans are a sick cult). So what did I do? I had Karlach kill her for what she's done. Then I came back to camp to report to Jaheira that Nightsong is no more and that Ketheric is now killable. But the only dialogue option I had was something like: 'I found Nightsong but I haven't decided what to do about her yet'. I figured the quest got bugged because the game couldn't predict that I would kill Shadowheart. After a few minutes of inner struggle, I decided to reload the save and accept whatever happens. If I fail again and Shadow kills Aylin - I will just let her stay at my camp but end our romance and pick another companion to follow me on my quests. But instead the diceroll succeeded and Shadowheart was finally free of her abusive goddess's influence. A good ending? Well, possibly, but I'm still mad at the game cause it would be more interesting if it recognized my spontaneous agency. It wasn't the only time Jaheira got bugged. When I came to Baldur's Gate, encountered Gortash and Orin, and made some shopping, I decided to call it a day. In the camp, I spoke to Jaheira, but she still acted as if my party hadn't reached the city. Weird...

You don't have to pass the persuasion roll to convince her not to kill, she actually reaches out to you for help and you can tell her to spare her and if you have a good relationship she will listen

I have been enjoying the playthrough. Looking at resistances is very helpful. I think you are missing a key component to some of the resistances. There are some of the physical resistances you seem to think reduce ALL damage; however, sometimes it is only from non-magical weapons. If you have a magical weapon, it will do full damage. I think you have a lot of magical weapons for your characters.

Very fun to watch. I feel that this let's play is like a "chaotic run", but up to this point most of the important decisions have been skewed towards the evil side: Tieflings gone, Lights inn massacre, Nightsong dead. So, RNG is so much against the player. Does this mean that if you want to make a "Good guy run" you have to reload saves for every big dice roll? hehehe kind of like rewriting history?. Is going to the evil side completely/willingly more rewarding? I feel so bad about screwing things due to RNG, may as well screw them on purpose.

Amazing how you unlocked the door using a spell and not by getting all the orbs. Same thing when i got the artifact at the Githyanki creche using Astarion lockpicking thief ability and hence did not need to find the cerimonial weapons.

If you have a good relationship with Shadowheart. Letting her decide for herself, without any rolls or interference is the best outcome. Choosing to interfere will almost always result in the darker side of things coming to pass. As was the case here.

Then came a turning point for me: in my head, I was standing by, letting Shadowheart fulfill her destiny. But then she decided to spare her. It caught me by surprise to see her throw that spear away. Now, I'm fighting this Dark Urge because of what I witnessed. Although I lost all my memories and all I knew was evil, and it was the only thing to identify with, I've come to realize it doesn't define me. I have seen the beauty of good and the ugliness of evil and recognized that no one can implicate me in ugliness-I have a choice. Man, this game is great!

Late viewer: I had a completely different experience when I went for the Nightsong on my first play-through. I wasn't prepared for Balthazar and (after many tries) I had to roll back to a previous save. I beat him up in his little necromancy sanctuary in the Gauntlet area where he had fewer adds. My Shadowheart rejected Shar and let the Nightsong live without any rolls. So I lifted the curse and Halsin was happy with me. Then I managed to get Jaheria killed in a frontal assault on Moonrise Tower and missed her quests in the city. I'm really impressed by Larian's branching paths in the game. There are lots of bugs but generally the game "works". It works if you solo through the whole game, or duo with one companion, or collect all the companions like Pokemon. It works if you kill/alienate most of the people available as allies in the last battle, or sway them to your side.

If you allow Shadowheart to make her own choice you can convince her without making a diceroll at all if i remember correctly, definitely not a dc30 if you do have to make one.

This was one of the moments in the game where I just let go of trying to control the story. My character romanced Shadowheart and obviously didn't want her to submit fully to Shar, but I trusted her enough to make whatever was the right decision for her. The following scene lodged itself in my mind as one of the greatest moments in any RPG.

I must say I am truly disappointed. @ 01:29:06 your character, that you introduced to us, could have taken the option: "She knows something about you. Spare her, and see what she has to say." But you just HAD to do the DICING ROLL, because you wanted the run to go random and stay entertaining. In all honesty, by the standards you set, you should now execute Shadowheart because she no longer walks a good path that aligns with your character. The other option would be that you actually agree with my statement and correct the mistake you did. Because in truth, your character would not agree to leave the decision if Nightsong lives to Shadowheart. The reason being, no matter what Shadowheart thinks, can a RANGER close to NATURE ever agree to sacrificing ones live in order to become a Dark Justiciar? The answer is no. In short: In order to stay true to your RPG Role you either have to kill Shadowheart or replay the Scene in a way that aligns with your roleplay character.

So I chose the persuasion option with the dice roll because I thought that choice would have a better chance to succeed than the other one. Just because there is a "non roll" dialogue choice, doesn't mean that that option will work. In fact many times that has proven to be the opposite. I felt like successfully persuading her was the only way. It had nothing to do with staying "entertaining." (and actually after some testing later on the choice you wanted me to make does nothing :-D)

I have a feeling that the more non roll dialogue you went through in that particular scene, and the more context Shadowheart would have gotten about her childhood, the easier the final persuasion roll to sway her would've been. I think, thematically, the fact that guidance was added to the roll you did do was to show her growing doubt. So selecting the option to hear more of what The Nightsong had to say may have increased Shadowheart's doubt even further, and continued to lower the difficulty class. That's how the scene felt to me at least.

Perhaps that "does nothing" statement should be reviewed by checking the difficulty class of the persuasion check after Shadowheart gets more context. I'd love to know if my theory is correct :-) If it is. It's a beautiful way to make use of the mechanics.

@@WolfheartFPS I watched 3 Playthroughs in parallel. I have to admit, that I was salty because in all 3 runs Shadowheart became a Dark Justiciar. And 2 of those 3 were "good" runs. Only the save scumming 4th dude saved the Nightsong.

Spoiler below for this episode: I save scummed Shadowheart's choice in this episoide. I couldn't let almost 60 hours of game play end over a 30 check. I didn't realize you could have a 21 check, or I would have used my inspiration on that reroll instead of the 30. I couldn't allow her to kill Nightsong in my current playthrough, and I didn't want to kill Shadowheart myself. I'm already playing tactician on my first playthrough, I'll save the hardcore, no save scum for my evil playthough.

That ending was crazy to me. When I did my first run, at this same point, I also let Shadowheart talk to Nightsong and make up her own mind, except I didn't try to persuade her not to do it and instead chose to trust her to make her own path. She chose to spare Nightsong and threw the spear into the abyss, forsaking Shar. I wonder what choices I made along the way that made Shadowheart decide to reject Shar. I hadn't romanced her, so it wasn't that. Maybe the cumulation of previous choice I made in the run convinced her to go the other way. I can't wait to reach parts like this again in future playthroughs and see what comes of them this time.

I would actually rather see a streamer reload if a misclick causes a catastrophic consequence. It actually seems anti-roleplaying to fold things into the story that go against what the characters would actually do, just because the camera angle was screwy or something. That's probably just me, though.

Just nicked an insane very rare halberd from a trader in moonrise towers after infiltrated and freed the tieflings and gnomes, and got 3 soul coins from that bugbear trader, as well as a potion which perma increases strength by 2 which is now 22
