They have a humanoid figure, that's it. But no moron can mistake them as part of the human species. The giant hentai mouth tentacles give it away easily from a distance 😂

I mean in my dnd campaign we just decided to kill a 8 year old child controlling a sky whale. The child was a mind flayer and so was its mother.

Hey... great lore video!... since i love dwarfs... i will add an extra bit of lore... the Duergar where once a proud Dwarven clan that was slaved by the Ilithid and brought down to the underground. After some time they were able to revel against the ilithid and destroy a big chunk of their colonies in the underground (very much like that Gith) PS: if you want to have some nightmares. you can look for elder brain dragon

BG2 has a pretty good illithid/gith section in the Underdark portion if you ever get a hankering to play that game. It's an oldie but a goodie.

the new “tadpole tree” that Larian homebrewed for BG3, just like a lot of other things, probably substitutes for psionic powers in some way

What I find funny is in 5E, which BG3 is running, Mind Flayers aren't THAT strong, lol. They have a CR of 7, which is stronger than most starting groups, but much weaker than you'd think. Beholders and Rhakasha are both almost twice as strong with CR13, and even Blue Salads (the 2nd weakest of the Saladi after Red) tie them with CR7.

I don't know abour 5e as I am not a fan of it outside of video games but in 3.5 I believe they had a base cr of 7 or 8 + they could take a caster ,cleric or psionic class on top of that?

Well they do implant a bug inside your characters head and the ones from the Nautiloid are hostile to you if you manage to kill the demons on the ship, so they're most definitely one of the villains, atleast in the early game
