Phalar Aluve, the magical longsword you pull out of the stone in the Underdark, is also a finesse weapon. So you can use that for a DEX longsword build without multi-classing

In my second playthrough I made Lae’zael into a strength based ranger as an experiment and it actually seems very strong. Taking the stat spread you recommended for a strength ranger, ranger knight at lvl 1 for heavy armor proficiency, defense for the fighting style, hunter subclass with colossus slayer, and resilient: constitution as my first to maintain concentration on my hunters mark. I also made sure to grab fire resist at level one and poison resist at level six, as those are the most common elemental damage types in the game. You are basically playing as a fighter with a little spell utility and a lot of melee single target burst. Even with only ten dex the combination of colossus slayer + hunters mark makes your ranged attacks do decent damage (assuming you can hit!) but the build really came into its own when I purchased gloves from the creche vendor that set Lae’zaels dex to 18, making her into a very powerful hybrid melee/ranged damage dealer. It’s not anywhere near broken like tavern brawler monk or paladin/warlock, but it’s strong enough to work in tactician.

Kind of curious how everyone seems to recommend Colossus Slayer for Hunter Lv.3. Always feels to me that Horde Breaker is the better option. 1d8 is little compared to a potential extra sharpshooter shot.

It's actually the same as why goin a thief rogue with a few levels in fighter or barbarian would be amazing because you get the extra attacks from fighter or barbarian and then you get extra bonus actions with the thief rogue and since your offhand counts as a bonus action when you attack with it you're getting 4 attacks in two Swift actions but man war domain cleric and a thief rogue that's two regular hits and then 4 bonus action attacks

Great video, I would also add the use of all arrow types. For instance, poison, ice, lightning, darkness, and arrow of multiple targets helps a lot in game. Also, coating your bow in toxins (drow sleeper toxin) and poisons can really turn the tide of a battle through crowd control with high damage.

I am SO curious about that Druid video. Spores Druid is as controversial as I thought and you all should read the Fextralife wiki for more insight. That said, I realized that BeastMaster Ranger/ Moon Druid is the closest thing to what the Druid USED to be in BG.

If you just want shillelagh, use _Magic initiate: Druid_ instead. This can potentially give you a greater attack boost than +2 STR or DEX, and you don't have to even dip.

Just on my first playthrough of BG3 and using a hunter ranger. I have duel wield and 2 weapon fighting, so I'm able to use things like rapiers in both hands without damage penalties, and attack twice per round. I'm currently level 4, and my understanding is that the ranger gets an extra attack at level 5 (which would be 4 attacks per round if you include your offhand). Does the extra attack with lvl 1 war priest stack with this, so one could theoretically have 6 melee attacks per round?

Probably because 5 levels of ranger is just better than 3 levels of rouge and 3 of ranger, extra attack is just that important. With only 1 level to multi class war domain cleric is often going to provide more than 1 level of rogue.

Ranger + monk is weak... you will always get more AC using armor, being at melee make you recibe more damage, and you can attack as a BA using a hand crossbow (you equip a light weapon and a hand crossbow and you can always use your BA to attack with it).

I understand your builds from min max multiclass perspective, but there's also RP and fantasy immersion. Some classes are great for multiclassing, some are not, and that's ok. Rangers are not that good at it, but they don't have to be. Why turn ranger into meleer or caster? What's the point of playing a ranger that loses their identity? Don't get me wrong, I am not some DnD purist or whatnot, I don't have problems with mixing classes. But why turn ranger into a melee character, then just play class that is much better at close combat, like barbarian or fighter. The same goes for casting, wizards and sorcerers are made for it. I mean, technically you could play Karlach as a stealthy thief or Astarion as a barbarian, but would you really want to? I am trying to imagine Legolas fighting with a quarterstaff or a club as his preferred weapon, and it's ridiculous. The only true ranged martial class and you want to turn it into another melee or casting class, as if there aren't enough of them in the game, just for the sake of wisdom bonuses.

"Don't get me wrong, I am not some DnD purist" "Why turn ranger into meleer or caster?" "The only true ranged martial class and you want to turn it into another melee or casting class" - Well, I like RP and immersion as much as the next person and I will admit I lean into that more than min maxing. But. "you want to turn it into another melee or casting class" - A DnD purist would tell you the Ranger IS a melee/caster and NOT a true ranged marital class. The only thing that makes a Ranger "ranged" is if you put a bow in his hands and simply use it that way. Your Legolas example is pretty silly though...you're saying he is a Ranger and giving him a quarterstaff/club is bad. That's not changing the Ranger class. That's you trying to say I'm going play someone as an archer (when you don't have to) but not give him a bow. That's also like saying a Elven Monk has to use only fists OR a quarterstaff when they can use either. Rangers can use lots of weapons. It's how you choose to play them that makes it ranged or not. Aragorn was the ranger just FYI. Ranger of the North matter of fact. Used swords all the time. Didn't know about second breakfast, so, some weakness but solid overall. Play the way you want and I'm sure the person that posted the video will do the same. I'm having a blast trying silly combos out. Ever hit someone with a thrown severed head for 12 pts of damage? Try it out.

The term "ranger" doesn't come from "range attack" definition of the word but the "Park Ranger" or "mountain range" definition. Basically a Ranger is somebody who explores or watches over a range. Nothing about that says "no melee weapons"
