If DnD arcane casters were A+ college students: Wizard is a studious kid who spends all his days in the library grinding away at books. Sorcerer is a frat bro who spends every evening partying, gets all the chicks, never studies, yes somehow miraculously also gets good grades. And a Warlock simply sleeps with the teacher.

2:41 "Rather than using Knowledge to cast a spell, they coerce or will their magic into existence or maybe they even persuade the universe to do the things they would like to do..." Interesting bit on Knowledge vs Charisma of DND I didn't know about. But even then with this new understanding I am still apprehensive of the stat/attribute 'Charisma' as it doesn't gel with the intrinsic quality of what the concept of Charisma stands for. My understanding of Charisma was using own personality or aspects of it due to primarily physical appearance then being socially adept, mannerism, silver tongue, cultured in arts/music which affects your presence in crowd or how other perceive you which help you in socializing, charming or how you manipulate or persuade other human beings. Hence I could understand Charisma being important for Warlock because their interaction with their patron allows you to bring forth magic. So based on logical analysis and what the above video states, charisma in DND is how efficiently you are able to project your very will into the universe. Other definition is force of presence your personality exerts. I didnt know magic fundamentals of DnD universe were "charmed" by Charisma stat as if a magic is a human being which has emotions and thinking. Anyway DnD doesnt account for Barbarian with huge physique and strength should also have Charisma stat. Intimidation and Persuasion (without STR) should also be achievable by character with great presence due to Goliath/Hulk physical appearance and strength like a Barbarian aka Macho Charisma. Considering Sorcerers have innate talent which allows them to instinctual will magic means Will is associated with Charisma instead of Wisdom. So Charisma takes a different meaning for Sorcerer than it does for Bard or Warlock. I can understand Bard beings Charismatic at a concept level but how does it help you weave magic using Charisma? Because it is not your social status/standing/perception among masses which helps you weave the magic but seeing game mechanics in case of Charisma based characters it is inherently the case due to limitations of 6 attribute board game based around simplification of rules for easier understanding and lowering the entry barrier. Hence Charisma at concept level is different from Charisma stat in DND as which apparently seems to be mutually exclusive . IMO Charismatic should be a feat similar to Lucky.

Ya know. Aberrant Mind would be a very fitting addition, there's a flavor text option of how you got the powers by way of Mindflayers for the extra RP end of things, so the setting of BG 3 and that whole plotline just makes it even more fitting. That, and it is one of the cooler ones all around with granting a lot more spells to the pool for free and some of the extra features you can use sorcery points on to do in the world.
@Tommy_The_Gun Жыл бұрын
While in real table top D&D Draconic Renaissance does not stack with other things (like Unarmored Defense), in BG3, the wording & description of this class feature indicate that in BG3 it actually may stack. When you aren't wearing armour, your base Armour Class is 13 (notice how it does not mention DEX at all, in real D&D it is AC = 13 + DEX). Same thing for Unarmored Defense. When you aren't wearing armour, you add your Constitution Modifier to your Armour Class (again, no mention of DEX or base AC, in real D&D it is AC = 10 + DEX + CON). But in BG3 it seems to be not the case. All of those passives do not seem to replace AC formula with another one, but rather change ingredients. So, if base AC is: 10 + DEX, with Sorc you could have 13 + DEX and if you pick Barb, You can have AC = 13 + DEX + CON. Seems OP, but Larian was indicating heavily that they want us to multi class (they even removed minimum attribute requirements, so for Sorc you don't need 13 charisma to pick it for multi class). So I would not be surprised if it would work that way. And since the game has no PvP, then if something is OP in PvE, then why not ? XD

They also get cool cosmetic effect - dragon scales on their skin, plus if they are also of dragonborn race also get unique cosmetic effect for those scales too! Oh, and the scales also set your regular ac to 13, as if you always wear light armor or have mage armor cast at you at all times (doesn't stack with actual mage armor, or any armor, for that matter). With 16 in dex such sorcerer will have 16 ac out of the box on lvl 1 while naked, which puts our fighter Lae'zel to shame with her 15 ac half-plate.

So far sorcerer is the class that I've made my strongest build for. A level cap of 12 sure makes different classes shine over others it feels like. For those interested, the build I'm talking about is a blaster sorcerer: lvl9 sorc, lvl2 fighter, lvl1 lock. Hex > Action surge > 5th level scorching ray x2 results in some pretty crazy nova damage from two times six rays each benefiting from hex: 36d6. And the nice thing is sustain damage on subsequent rounds is still better than many other sustain builds. If you go nova on turn 2, you can also quicken an eldritch blast for 3 beams + hex for even more damage. I'm still considering swapping out hex as concentration for haste, since from what I am told in BG3 it gives you another whole action that could then be used to cast a 3rd scorching ray, without hex the damage would still be 36d6, but the benefit should be that if you twin haste it can also boost another character. Though the downside would be that 3x scorching ray would be more costly on the spell slots. It's a shame hexblade's curse ain't in BG3, that'd be wild...

Sorcerer in BGII was the most powerful class, that could reach god-level abilities at the end of Throne of Baal. Ironically, although sorcerer has fewer spells, it can use all of them many times, which gives more flexibility than wizard. For example, wizard could have 6 slots of certain level. People usually fill it with various spells. While sorcerer could have only 4 offensive spells that can be cast 6 or 7 times at the same level. During a combat, it may turn out that the spells assigned to the wizard simply have no use (invisibility, open lock, etc.), so it leaves them with for example 4 offensive spells. Sorcerer, on the other hand, could cast one of those spells 6 or 7 times, making him/her more powerful in combat than wizard by a lot. Wizards could shine if they would prepare for each fight every time knowing what they will deal with, which is absurd and never happens in playtrough, so naturally people try to use spells for various occasions and some of them become useless in certain fights, while sorcerer may have lesser spells pool, but can cast them more times. I imagine, the similar thing may apply to BGIII. As to BGII at the end, sorcerer could have high level spells which regenerate all spells without resting, which makes sorcerer so powerful that you can play with a single character and obliterate enemies instantly. Basically, it would look like that. When you enter combat, previously prepared spells (that cost you nothing) activate: invincibility to weapons below +3, spell absorption, so for a while, you will get no damage. The first spell was hold time and cast three high level, area spells that kill almost instantly most of the enemies, so the fight was over in seconds. In longer fights, sorcerer could do jinn wish many times till all spells were renewed and could cast everything again and again. This made the boss fight at the end pretty easy. No other class could reach even a fraction of the power of the sorcerer. I wonder if the sorcerer in BGIII could be also as powerful? I suspect that 12 lvl cap won't allow for experiencing the full power of the sorcerer.

Multiple classes became God like in end game ToB it's been a topic of debate for over 20 years which is the most powerful amongst power gamers. Mage duels are still the best in BG2 out of any CRPG out there.
@michadybczak4862 Жыл бұрын
@@CrazyxEnigma Agreed. It wasn't just enough to have destruction spells. You needed proper protection spells at proper times, otherwise you were a sitting duck for spells like labyrinth, disintegration, etc. Fighting with lyches was the moment where you had to learn strategic magic. Right spell at the right moment, otherwise you were doomed in seconds, no forgiveness. It was a big shock for me at first ;). I never saw anything even close to this in any other RPG game. I kinda expect similar things in BGIII, or at least hope it will be implemented. As to various builds, I played with many characters, and they got op at the end, but none of them went even closer to a sorcerer with the right spells. With any other characters, the final fight was very hard. With sorcerer without any companions, it was a breeze, so for me in BGII, sorcerer was the best class without a doubt, but he needed time to get this kind of power.

I just view Sorcerers, especially in this edition, as so tied to their Sorcerous Origin that it's hard to imagine them with so few options. If it had to be limited though, I suppose the generic draconic origin is the way to go with several elemental options. That or the old 3.5 savants. Ill admit shadow not being an option was a surprise since Larian seems to like their darker themes. Aberrant mind wasn't even a remote possibility, but I'm quite biased toward psionics so I'll hope for a mod.

One complaint I have about 5e is that there are too many CHA casters. Bard, Warlock, and Sorcerer. Bard makes sense...But Warlock or Sorcerer don't have to use CHA. There's only one INT caster (well, two...If you count the Artificer). It also means if you want to min/max, you're going to make a "Sorlock." We houseruled a sort of Sorcerer that uses CON instead...Representing magic within them that they channel and control with physical conditioning. This allows for a sort of caster-tank that's been fun to play and have in the party. A Monk variant that uses CON is a good idea too, for obvious reasons. D&D doesn't use CON enough, IMO. All it does is give more HP, and help with concentration checks. There hasn't ever been a single class based on using it as its key ability score.

Sorcerer is one of the first classes I want to play. I'm hoping I'll like this game enough for multiple playthroughs though.

Playing tabletop, my favorite build has been a storm sorcerer. It was a super fun hit and run glass cannon build where even at level 5 I was pretty much down after 2 hits against me. But the ability to use lightning ot thunder magic and then get some free movement without counter away from the enemy was epic! But the party Cleric was of the grave, so I kept asking for a heal and she was like "sorry, you aren't down yet. Once you are KOd let me know and I'll bring you back" and my character was like... But if I'm down then I can't ask for heals! To which she retorted "exactly, when you shut up I'll know you are in trouble" hahahahaha

loved the video, but i just wanted to point out the irony that the thumbnail is canonically a forgotten realms warlock named Farideh. from the brimstone angels novel of books

Thanks, I'm aware, good sorc art is hard to find, and 99% of people don't care

I'm going bard on my first run, but now I'm thinking about the possibilities of a bard/sorc multiclass to double dip on that charisma!

I hope Storm sorcerers get a capstone that encourages not taking two levels in Tempest Cleric for the max damage channel ability.

Sorcerers are the superhero/X Men of classes. Lean into a theme: fire, lightning, illusions and have fun!
