I'd recommend an itemization tutorial too if you're looking for ideas. I see a lot of players feeling bad they miss the ever burning blade, when in reality, it's just a greatsword that is constantly dipped in fire (which you can do with any weapon and proper prep). DnD items can be weird and something like a +1 sword might not look as powerful as it is.

I remember being a kid going through BG1&2 after I finished it I learned the "rules". Just equipping good stuff and using diffrent classes = sure way to finish it back as a kid not knowing any fantasy stuff or D&D rules. I mean, I realized for ex I needed more tanking or off tank so I just made Jaheira summon animals to distract enemies, or make my DPS chaarcters try and snipe out the dangerous targets etc, even as a small kid you pick it up fast.

Thrown weapons use strength so a character that throws for ranged attacks like an Eldrich Knight or Berserker has less need for dexterity.

The thing about this game is that people go to so much trouble picking the class they wat to play but then when you actually play the game you have to play all the other classes just as well as the one you wanted to be. I like the idea of a turn-based combat because you don't need super reflexes but that is kind of a lot of research for an old man to tackle.

Ive been searching left and right in the last week to understand when and why are saving throws happening being mostly the only mechanic i didnt understand. Finally someone who says tbat saving throwa happen on certain actions that dont do a roll. I thought that saving throws happen on every action even after an attack roll. Thank you!

Some numbers, for those interested: Average dice rolls are half of the max roll +1 (I.E. a d8’s average is 5). This is how class HP is calculated. Good for knowing if your damage will likely kill an enemy. Each number on the D20 (used by most non-damage rolls) is 5%. The exceptions are 1 (failure) and 20 (critical success this may or may not apply out of combat.) “Advantage” represents an average of +5, or 25% added to a roll. It also roughly doubles your chance for a critical hit. The lucky trait on Halflings may represent double advantage, depending on the way Larian programmed the feature (if one of the d20 in an advantage roll is a 1, it may trigger a “Luck” re-roll.)

From the sheer amount of 98% 90% 80% chance to hit that I've missed there is definitely more rolls going on in the background. They probably have light level and other things mixed in that doesn't represent that chance to hit properly.

5:55 Making light in release version doesn't matter. Darkvision is just visual now, darkness doesn't affect combat anymore

Thanks for the great video. A bit sad that the game has no tutorial or similar. It's sad that videos like this are needed in order to understand the game. It should be implemented into the game, especially with such many factors, RNG, etc you have to take into consideration. I don't want to binge-watch a bunch of videos before I understand the core mechanics of a game that should have been explained within the game directly.

To any Druid-Barbs out there. I found going druid into barb makes spells like Shillelagh and Flame blade use Charisma over Wisdom for some reason (maybe game thinks cha is the barbs spell attribute??) I found that if I respec into a barb and then multiclass into druid it fixes the problem. I guess I will have the main proficiencies as a barb instead of druid now but oh well.

I really need to play Tactician mode to humble myself. All these tactics… I’m too lazy to use it and will just charge in to hit everything, slaughtering whole areas without sleep - because it feels unimmersive to go camp in the middle of some dangerous area. And still… despite this brutish tactless approach, my party never wiped.
