One thing that I always remember when I think of deities in The Forgotten Realms and which can very well apply to Mystra is part of the default background you get if you choose to play a cleric in Baldur's Gate 1: "Long have you marveled at the tales read to you by your foster father, many gathered from the various holy books on the shelves of Candlekeep. The strength and power of faith inspired you, but the petty squabbles of the gods only filled you with disdain." The gods are petty.

Thanks for the video. I was familiar with the ADD era Forgotten Realms lore, but stopped following D&D lore around when 4.0 came out. Your quick synopsis of WOTC's retcons of magic and Mystra was helpful in clearing up some of the BG3 story.

From what I've read on the Forgotten Realms wiki, Abeir doesn't have access to the Weave, which makes using magic much, much more difficult (probably why they never left their Time of Dragons/Time of Giants era, no elves or epic magic to create the Dracorage).

magic use is very much possible when it comes to primordial magic (such as the elements) psionics and sorcery possibly but yeah Abeir is cut from all gods and all of the magic weave hence why dragonborn similiar to leonin hate gods and do not want to be ascociated with them

@@marc09969 no the weave itself does not exist on Abeir weave is basicaly a road or a force for magic to be channeld through and harnesed it is not magic itself hence why magic still existed on the planet despite there being no weave. Creatures that manifest their own magic or posses magical power from their own bodies can cast spells normaly as they dont manipulate the weave to use magic the manipulate the magic inside of their bodies to produce the result such is a case with sorcerers and warlocks (all though pacts work different in Abeir) Metalic Dragons and giants are also a good example since they are natrual spellcasters they are free to cast spells and chnage shape however they wish and if somehow mindflayers appeard there they would be fine as well

Mystra is an idiot in BG3. Her plan for Gale would not work and would actively make things worse. It sounds like her getting petty revenge on Gale despite her protestations to the contrary.

yeah, the gane makes it pretty clear that what she's suggesting is insane, a common theme in the world of DND is basically Gods not really caring that much or being just as flawed and dumb as human beings. More like the greek pantheon than anything.

If mystra is such an important godess then why does she gets replaced so easily and so frequently (its a joke) all though as important as mystra truly is the world and magic can exist without her such as the infamous planet of Abeir where the weave never existed but magic was still used mainly elemental, magical items and the psionics and contact with gods was impossible (mainly from the mortal side as gods didnt want to step in)

Isn't the netherese orb that Gale has kinda against the Ao's laws for the Gods since the thing can destroy a whole city. It could potentially do more damage than a God's avatar appearing which is very rare occurance?

Not necessarily; Ao generally allows mortals to do whatever they want, he does not interfere.

The netherese orb itself was created by Karsus the man who wanted to use his spell to become a god kind of but failed mystra has actualy nothing to do with the orb hence not breaking Ao's rules

@@subject8776 Not at all. However, if the deity is incompetent, for example because of humanity, it must be removed. A century ago, Midnight - the third Mystra - was judged by the gods for incompetence, as well as Kelemvor. The fourth Mystra also follows the same path - trough protecting the orphans and the wretched, she upsets the balance of granting access to the Weave. The god of magic cannot be good or evil, it can only be completely neutral. In addition, this Mystra, by giving Gale a suicide mission, puts all of Faerûn under the threat of a full-fledged illithid invasion. The "good" deity who ordered the destruction of the continent... Definitely, Mystra must die. Moreover, during the time of the Spellplague, wizards and sorcerers learned to weave magic without using Mystra as a conductor and source of magical powers.

@@MrAkeron Mystra IS the source of all magical powers. No magic can be wrought without her authority. Even the magic granted from other gods as boons to their followers is at the behest of Mystra. She IS literally "the magic"

the one thing baldures gate made me relies about mystra is both in how vary important and ignorent she is. she always thinks she right when in reality she's only usually right because of what she is not because of her intelligence or character. when she's actually tested she fails spectaculy because shes to self assured to not be in the right. when in reality she just rushing it because she dosnt act until shes spooked. but to have her spooked means shits already hit the fan and is now out of her control and theres no way shes admiting that. im impresed gale lasted so long dating her to be honest because shes defintly one of those people who like bootlikers more then actual boyfriends but then again all gods are pieces of shit so its not that surprising that her biggest flaw is yet again another irony like it is with all other gods. in her case its intelligence. specifically foresight.
