It's actually a good thing he turns into the slayer. Otherwise you'd have to deal with all his protections and immunities while he casts level 9 spells at your party.

+Avinavi The last time I fought him in hell I had boots of speed. That made the fight laughable. I made the fast character kite him around while the others lowered his resistances and attack and then pummeled him. By the way, as far as I remember you get the boots of speed from the token machine in a labyrinth. As I recall it you need max tokens, but I'm not sure about that(It's over 10 years since I played it). When travelling they can be annoying since the person wearing them will run ahead of the others and get in combat alone.

I love the variation in strategy you can use for this game. And I believe there is another pair you can get from the body of one of the bounty hunters in the Haer'Dalis quest.

+Avinavi I also once used a double, thief combo with traps. They can do a lot of damage to bosses under the right circumstances. Oh and I also once used a Kensai/mage solo completion. It ended up being max level without xp cap. I completed it on insane when I could ofc. Kangaxx was horrible to play against solo because I didn't have immunity to divine spells(i think it's divine) I don't even remember how I defeated him.

I think this fight is climatically accurate. The first time we fought with him it was much harder because he was powerful and used his spells efficiently. But this time in hell, he got weakened by the fight he lose against charname, and he uses his last chance,the Slayer form for the final battle between charname and himself. I always tought the first battle at the Tree of Life was supposed to be the real challenging one. But if he had these demons with him there it would be close to impossible for sure :D

Even now very few game villains compare to Irenicius; that also includes villians in films for that matter. David Warner really brought him to life :) It's so thrilling to think that Irenicius is still a threat to the world of the living if you don't stop him here. BTW David Warner also voices Nergal from the Grim Adventures Of Billy And Mandy for the first 2 seasons :)

I was surprised I didn't have as much trouble with this battle as I did Sarevok in BG1, but I did lose two people along the way and had to transform into the Slayer. Viconia's Skeleton Warriors fortunately took much of the brunt of Irenicus' spells. Those guys really came in handy with their magic resistance.

OMGG. I remember this. I was SO ecstatic to have gotten that far (:!! This battle irritated me, I had to reload like maybe 3 times. I was no where near level cap or anything. Had the same party minus Minsc and add Valugar though. I must whip this game back out

IMHO the first encounter with Irenicus is way harder than in hell. I reloaded lots of times for that one.

right on man. I mean don't get me wrong, I loved Dragon Age. It was probably the closest any modern RPG came to Baldur's Gate 2 or Planescape Torment, but there was just something missing... The bad guys just weren't as compelling as Irenicus, the storyline was just not as tragic and engaging as BG2, and the "final battle" just felt tacked on and cliche. But maybe they can redeem themselves with Dragon Age 2. There's always hope.

It doesnt matter they are in effect different series. Baldurs Gate "3" is a sequel the pnp Descent into Avernus and Abdel Adrians story. Baldurs Gate 1 & 2 are completely seperate.

@@mrcactuar8515 I consider it (Baldurs Gate 3) to be one of the most overhyped and overrated games in history and you can see from even the game synopsis theres virtually no callback. I personally look at it as being on par with the Baldurs Gate novelization. Taking all that into account I dont think theres many players who will be torn up over it. Its essentially Baldurs Gate: Original Sin. They could get neither the original voice actors (understandable in Jaheiras case though as she stopped working decades ago and could have passed away for all anyone knows) nor do the original writing justice. Minsc is a bombastic comic relief at least no so huge loss but to avoid spoilers there is at least one other who was extremely well written and beloved from the old games who suffered under Larians incompetant writing.

@@jmlaw8888 I disagree with that, and im a hardcore fan of the originals who invested hundreds of hours on the OG Bhaalspawn saga and the expansions (including the recent Siege of Dragonspear) I still dont know most of the story, but the praise this game its receiving its from the gameplay and freedom to the plays,. Like a BG2 on steroids, with better and deeper combat And i dont want to spoil anything, but... let just say that Jaheira and Minsc are far from being the only characters and things from the past BG games. Anyway, its ok that it has a new story; after all, its sets 100 years after the OG Bhaalspawn trilogy.

They really should've souped Irenicius up to match your abilities that are added in the Throne Of Bhaal expansion because there's absolutely nothing he can do to match you once that expanisions installed; Dragons Breath just mops the floor with him. In Tales Of The Sword Coast it says "Saervok may not be as you remember him" so it hints he was souped up for that add on but ah well :)

I just finished this game with a Solo Dwarven Fighter/Thief. Quite a long road, but you feel great when Irenicus finally falls for the last time...I hope i didn't just jinx it, i haven't played Throne Of Bhaal yet. Great battle by the way, & you chose your party well.

The Demon in the Underdark near the Gnome Settlement was probably the toughest Demon in the original BGII campaign (Demorgon obviously is the strongest demon overall if we include TOB). This fight would probably be a lot harder if Irenicus had something like that. I'm curious to see if Irenicius has been made tougher in the Enhanced Edition of this game; the one thing that bugged me about this fight is Irenicius is just no match for you with TOB abilities; so it would be nice if he's been made stronger for the enhanced edition. (Enhanced Edition will obviously have TOB abilities etc). As things stand with TOB abilities the players party is totally overpowered in BGII.

Irenicus is still easy on EE . I agree hlas make you op in SoA but TOB is not that good either . Every fucking enemy uses greater whirlwind or time stop . It is just not fun .

Demon in underdark or the one in plane sphere are harder than avatar of demogorgon in keep because you fight them as lower level . By the time you get to the last room ( assuming you defeated last seal fight properly ) you would have summon planetar spell . Buff your summoned / gated creatures to tank demogorgon then command your mages to lower his resistance . If you have Keldorn with you then it is a piece of cake .

They could make Watcher's Keep inaccessible until ToB then reduce the amount of experience you get for quests so you don't get to 3 million. To make it even more difficult they could remove all Level 9 spells.

I remember kicking Irenicus ass and his pet daemons with relative ease. Ironically it was much more difficult for me fighting him in the elf city when we both were 100% alive.

Many people believe (and I myself am one of them) that Planescape Torment had the greatest storyline of any of the classic golden-era RPGs. To this day, I still believe that it had the most interesting and complex characters in all of gaming. BG2 is more polished in terms of combat, but Planescape was focused more on story. Get ready to read A LOT. There's way more text to read than in BG. Definitely try to find it. Try scrounging the bargain bins at Best Buy or order from gamestop online.
